1 Khởi đầu của Tin Mừng về Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu, Con Thượng Đết,2 như nhà tiên tri Ê-sai đã viết:
"Ta sẽ sai sứ giả đi trước con để dọn đường cho con."3 "Có tiếng người kêu trong sa mạc:
‘Hãy chuẩn bị đường cho Chúa.
San phẳng lối đi cho Ngài.’"4 Giăng làm lễ báp-têm cho dân chúng trong đồng hoang và giảng dạy một lễ báp-têm về sự ăn năn để được tha tội.5 Mọi người từ miền Giu-đia và Giê-ru-sa-lem đều đến với ông. Sau khi họ xưng tội thì được Giăng làm lễ báp-têm dưới sông Giô-đanh.6 Giăng mặc áo bằng lông lạc đà, thắt lưng bằng đai da, ăn châu chấu và mật ong rừng.7 Đây là lời giảng của Giăng cho dân chúng: "Có Đấng đến sau tôi còn cao trọng hơn tôi; tôi không xứng đáng cúi xuống mở dép cho Ngài.8 Tôi làm báp-têm cho các anh bằng nước, nhưng Ngài sẽ làm báp-têm cho các anh bằng Thánh Linh."9 Lúc ấy Chúa Giê-xu từ thành Na-xa-rét miền Ga-li-lê đến để Giăng làm báp-têm dưới sông Giô-đanh.10 Vừa khi lên khỏi nước, Ngài thấy thiên đàng mở ra. Thánh Linh lấy dạng chim bồ câu đáp xuống đậu trên Ngài,11 và có tiếng từ thiên đàng vọng xuống rằng: "Con là Con ta yêu dấu, ta rất vừa lòng về Con."12 Ngay sau đó Thánh Linh đưa Chúa Giê-xu vào đồng hoang.13 Ngài ở đó suốt bốn mươi ngày để chịu Sa-tăng cám dỗ. Ngài ở chung với muông thú và có các thiên sứ phục sự Ngài.14 Sau khi Giăng bị tù, Chúa Giê-xu đến miền Ga-li-lê giảng Tin Mừng về Thượng Đế.15 Ngài dạy, "Thời đã điểm. Nước Trời đã gần kề. Ai nấy hãy ăn năn và tiếp nhận Tin Mừng!"16 Khi đang đi dọc theo hồ Ga-li-lê, Ngài thấy Xi-mônt và em là Anh-rê đang quăng lưới xuống hồ vì hai người vốn làm nghề chài lưới.17 Chúa Giê-xu bảo họ "Hãy theo ta, ta sẽ biến các anh thành những tay đánh lưới người."18 Xi-môn và Anh-rê lập tức bỏ lưới lại đi theo Ngài.19 Đi một khoảng nữa, Ngài thấy hai anh em khác tên Giăng và Gia-cơ, con của Xê-bê-đê, đang ngồi trong thuyền vá lưới.20 Ngài gọi hai người thì họ liền để cha mình lại trong thuyền với mấy người làm công rồi đi theo Ngài.21 Chúa Giê-xu và các môn đệ đi đến thành Ca-bê-nâmt. Đến ngày Sa-bát Ngài vào hội đường để dạy dỗ.22 Dân chúng rất ngạc nhiên về lối giảng dạy của Ngài, vì Ngài dạy như người có quyền năng, chứ không giống các giáo sư luật.23 Ngay lúc ấy trong hội đường có một người bị tà ma ám. Anh kêu lớn,24 "Giê-xu ở Na-xa-rét ơi, Ngài muốn làm gì chúng tôi đây? Có phải Ngài đến để diệt chúng tôi không? Tôi biết Ngài là ai—Ngài là Đấng Thánh của Thượng Đế!"25 Chúa Giê-xu mắng quỉ, "Im đi! Ra khỏi người nầy ngay!"26 Quỉ liền vật mạnh anh ta xuống, rú lên một tiếng lớn, rồi ra khỏi.27 Dân chúng vô cùng sửng sốt, hỏi nhau, "Việc nầy nghĩa là sao? Ông nầy dạy điều mới lạ và đầy quyền năng. Đến nỗi ông ta ra lệnh cho tà ma chúng cũng vâng theo."28 Thế là tiếng đồn về Chúa Giê-xu loan truyền nhanh chóng khắp cả miền Ga-li-lê.29 Khi Chúa Giê-xu và các môn đệ vừa ra khỏi hội đường, thì cùng Gia-cơ và Giăng đi đến nhà của Xi-môn và Anh-rê.30 Bà mẹ vợ Xi-môn đang sốt liệt giường. Người ta cho Chúa Giê-xu hay.31 Ngài bước đến bên giường, cầm tay bà, đỡ dậy. Cơn sốt dứt ngay, bà liền bắt tay phục vụ mọi người.32 Chiều hôm ấy, sau khi mặt trời lặn, dân chúng mang những người bệnh và bị quỉ ám đến cùng Chúa Giê-xu.33 Cả thành tụ tập trước cửa.34 Chúa Giê-xu chữa lành đủ thứ bệnh và đuổi quỉ ra khỏi nhiều người. Nhưng Ngài cấm không cho quỉ nói ra, vì chúng biết Ngài là ait.35 Sáng sớm hôm sau khi trời hãy còn tối, Chúa Giê-xu thức dậy ra khỏi nhà. Ngài đến một nơi vắng vẻ để cầu nguyện.36 Xi-môn và đồng bạn đi tìm Ngài.37 Sau khi tìm được, họ thưa, "Ai cũng đi tìm thầy!"38 Chúa Giê-xu bảo họ, "Chúng ta nên đi thăm các thành gần đây để ta giảng dạy nữa. Đó là lý do mà ta đến."39 Nên Ngài đi khắp miền Ga-li-lê, giảng dạy trong các hội đường và đuổi quỉ.40 Có một người cùi đến quì gối van xin Chúa Giê-xu, "Lạy Chúa, nếu Chúa muốn, Ngài có thể chữa lành cho con được."41 Chúa Giê-xu động lòng thương anh. Ngài giơ tay rờ trên người anh và bảo, "Ta muốn. Hãy lành bệnh đi!"42 Bệnh liền dứt, anh được lành ngay.43 Chúa Giê-xu bảo anh đi liền và nghiêm cấm,44 "Đừng cho ai biết chuyện nầy. Anh hãy đi trình diện thầy tế lễ, rồi dâng của lễ theo như Mô-se đã qui định cho những người được lành bệnh.t Như thế để cho mọi người thấy điều ta làm."45 Anh rời nơi đó, liền thuật cho mọi người biết Chúa Giê-xu đã chữa lành mình. Vì thế Ngài không thể công khai vào thành nữa. Ngài cư ngụ nơi hẻo lánh, nhưng dân chúng khắp nơi đều kéo đến tìm Ngài.

Preaching of John the Baptist

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
"BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU,
WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY;

3 THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS,
'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD,
MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.'"4 John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness tpreaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.5 And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.6 John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey.7 And he was preaching, and saying, "After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals.8 I baptized you twith water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

The Baptism of Jesus

9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.10 Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him;11 and a voice came out of the heavens: "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."

12 Immediately the Spirit *impelled Him to go out into the wilderness.13 And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him.

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

14 Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

16 As He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.17 And Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."18 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.19 Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.20 Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him.

21 They *went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach.22 They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.23 Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,24 saying, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus tof Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are-the Holy One of God!"25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"26 Throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.27 They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him."28 Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee.

Crowds Healed

29 And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they *spoke to Jesus about her.31 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she twaited on them.

32 When evening came, after the sun had set, they began bringing to Him all who were ill and those who were demon-possessed.33 And the whole city had gathered at the door.34 And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.

35 In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.36 Simon and his companions searched for Him;37 they found Him, and *said to Him, "Everyone is looking for You."38 He *said to them, "Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for."39 And He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out the demons.

40 And a leper *came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, "If You are willing, You can make me clean."41 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and *said to him, "I am willing; be cleansed."42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.43 And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away,44 and He *said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."45 But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but tstayed out in unpopulated areas; and they were coming to Him from everywhere.
