Juan el Bautista

1 Ésta es la historia de cómo empezaron a anunciarse las buenas noticias acerca de Jesús, que es el Hijo de Dios y el Mesías.

2 Todo comenzó como Dios lo había anunciado por medio del profeta Isaías:

«Yo envío a mi mensajero
delante de ti,
y él va a preparar todo
para tu llegada.

3 »Alguien grita en el desierto:
“¡Prepárenle el camino a nuestro Dios!
¡Ábranle paso!
¡Que no encuentre estorbos!”»

4-8 Por esos días, Juan el Bautista apareció en el desierto. Se vestía con ropa hecha de pelo de camello y usaba un taparrabos de cuero. Comía saltamontes y miel silvestre.
Juan le decía a la gente: «¡Bautícense y demuestren que ya no quieren hacer lo malo! Sólo así Dios los perdonará.» También decía: «Después de mí viene alguien más poderoso que yo. ¡Ni siquiera merezco ser su esclavo! Yo los he bautizado a ustedes con agua, pero él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo.»
Todos los que vivían en la región de Judea, y en Jerusalén, iban al desierto para oír a Juan. Muchos confesaban sus pecados y Juan los bautizaba en el río Jordán.

Juan bautiza a Jesús

9 En esos días, Jesús estaba en la región de Galilea, en un pueblo llamado Nazaret. Desde allí viajó hasta el río Jordán, donde Juan lo bautizó.10 Cuando Jesús salió del agua, vio que se abría el cielo, y que el Espíritu de Dios bajaba sobre él en forma de paloma.

11 En ese momento, una voz que venía del cielo le dijo: «Tú eres mi Hijo, a quien quiero mucho. Estoy muy contento contigo.»

Jesús vence al diablo

12 De inmediato, el Espíritu de Dios llevó a Jesús al desierto.

13 Y Jesús estuvo allí cuarenta días, viviendo entre los animales salvajes. Satanás trataba de hacerlo caer en sus trampas, pero los ángeles de Dios cuidaban a Jesús.

Jesús comienza su trabajo

14 Después de que metieron a Juan en la cárcel, Jesús fue a la región de Galilea. Allí anunciaba las buenas noticias acerca de Dios:

15 «¡Ya está cerca el día en que Dios comenzará a reinar! Vuélvanse a Dios y crean en la buena noticia.»

Jesús elige a cuatro pescadores

16 Jesús pasaba por la orilla del Lago de Galilea, cuando vio a Simón y a Andrés, dos pescadores que eran hermanos, y que estaban pescando con sus redes.

17 Jesús les dijo: «Síganme. En lugar de pescar peces, les voy a enseñar a ganar seguidores para mí.»

18 En ese mismo instante, Simón y Andrés dejaron sus redes y siguieron a Jesús.
19 Un poco más adelante, Jesús vio a Santiago y a Juan, hijos de Zebedeo. Ellos también eran pescadores, y estaban en una barca arreglando las redes.

20 Jesús los llamó, y ellos lo siguieron, dejando a su padre en la barca, con los empleados.

El hombre con un espíritu malo

21 Jesús y sus discípulos fueron al pueblo de Cafarnaúm. El sábado, Jesús fue a la sinagoga y comenzó a enseñar.

22 Todos estaban admirados de sus enseñanzas, pues cuando les hablaba, lo hacía con autoridad, y no como los maestros de la Ley.
23 En la sinagoga, había un hombre que tenía un espíritu malo.

24 El espíritu le gritó a Jesús:

—¡Jesús de Nazaret! ¿Qué tienes contra nosotros? ¿Acaso vienes a destruirnos? Yo te conozco. ¡Tú eres el Hijo de Dios! t t

25 Jesús reprendió al espíritu malo y le dijo:

—¡Cállate! ¡Sal de este hombre!

26 El espíritu malo salió gritando y haciendo que el hombre se pusiera a temblar muy fuerte.

27 La gente se quedó muy asombrada, y se preguntaba: «¿Qué es esto? ¿Una nueva enseñanza? ¿Qué clase de poder tiene este hombre? Con autoridad y poder ordena a los espíritus malos que salgan, ¡y ellos lo obedecen!»

28 Y Jesús se hizo famoso en toda la región de Galilea.

Jesús sana a mucha gente

29 Luego Jesús salió de la sinagoga y se fue con Santiago y Juan a la casa de Simón y Andrés.30 Cuando entró en la casa, le dijeron que la suegra de Simón estaba enferma y con fiebre.

31 Jesús fue a verla, la tomó de la mano y la levantó. En ese mismo instante la fiebre se le fue, y la suegra de Simón les sirvió de comer.
32 Al anochecer, la gente le llevó a Jesús todos los enfermos y todos los que tenían demonios.33 Todo el pueblo se reunió a la entrada de la casa de Simón.

34 Allí Jesús sanó a mucha gente que tenía diferentes enfermedades, y también expulsó a muchos demonios. Pero no dejaba hablar a esos demonios, porque ellos lo conocían.

Jesús anuncia las buenas noticias

35 En la madrugada, Jesús se levantó y fue a un lugar solitario para orar.36 Más tarde, Simón y sus compañeros salieron a buscarlo.

37 Cuando lo encontraron, le dijeron:

—Todos te andan buscando.

38 Pero Jesús les dijo:

—Vamos a otros pueblos cercanos. También allí debo anunciar estas buenas noticias, pues para eso vine al mundo.

39 Jesús recorrió toda la región de Galilea anunciando las buenas noticias en las sinagogas de cada pueblo, y expulsando a los demonios.

Jesús sana a un leproso

40 Un hombre que tenía la piel enferma se acercó a Jesús, se arrodilló ante él y le dijo:

—Señor, yo sé que tú puedes sanarme. t t t ¿Quieres hacerlo?

41 Jesús tuvo compasión del enfermo, extendió la mano, lo tocó y le dijo:

—¡Quiero hacerlo! ¡Ya estás sano!

42 De inmediato, aquel hombre quedó completamente sano;

43 pero Jesús lo despidió con una seria advertencia:

44 —No le digas a nadie lo que te sucedió. Sólo ve con el sacerdote para que te examine, y lleva la ofrenda que Moisés ordenó. t Así los sacerdotes verán que ya no tienes esa enfermedad.

45 Pero el hombre empezó a contarles a todos cómo había sido sanado. Por eso Jesús no podía entrar libremente en los pueblos, sino que tenía que quedarse en las afueras, donde no había gente. De todos modos, la gente iba a verlo.

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.2 Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way.3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight;4 John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins.5 And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; And they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey.7 And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.8 I baptized you in water; But he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit.9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan.10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him:11 And a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.12 And straightway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness.13 And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; And he was with the wild beasts; And the angels ministered unto him.14 Now after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,15 and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel.16 And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishers.17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.18 And straightway they left the nets, and followed him.19 And going on a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets.20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.21 And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.22 And they were astonished at his teaching: For he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.23 And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,24 saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.26 And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.28 And the report of him went out straightway everywhere into all the region of Galilee round about.29 And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.30 Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her:31 and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with demons.33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.34 And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him.35 And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed.36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him;37 and they found him, and say unto him, All are seeking thee.38 And he saith unto them, Let us go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth.39 And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.40 And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.41 And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean.42 And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.43 And he strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out,44 and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
