Markus 10

Getroude mense wat skei

(Ook Matt 19:1-9; 5:31-32; Luk 16:18)

1 Nadat Jesus weggegaan het van die stad Kapernaum, het Hy oor die Jordaan-rivier gegaan en Hy het toe in die provinsie Judea gekom. ’n Groot klomp mense het rondom Jesus bymekaargekom en Hy het vir hulle weer begin leer soos Hy altyd gedoen het.

2 Party tFariseërs het na Hom toe gekom. Hulle wou hê Jesus moes iets sê wat vir Hom probleme kan gee. Hulle het vir Hom gevra: “Mag ’n man skei van sy vrou?”

3 Jesus het hulle geantwoord: “Wat het Moses vir julle gesê?”

4 Hulle het gesê: “tMoses het gesê ’n man mag vir sy vrou ’n tskeibrief gee en van haar skei.”
5 Maar Jesus het vir hulle gesê: “Dit is omdat julle so hardkoppig is. Daarom het Moses vir julle hierdie wet gemaak.

6-9 tMaar as God ’n man en ’n vrou saamgebind het, dan mag hulle nie skei nie. God wat in die begin alles gemaak het, het die mense so gemaak dat hulle mans en vroue is.
“tDaarom sal ’n man weggaan
van sy pa en sy ma,
en hy sal saam met sy vrou lewe,
en hulle twee sal soos
een mens wees.
“Daarom is hulle nie meer twee mense nie, maar een.”
10 Later, toe hulle weer terug in die huis was, het die tdissipels vir Jesus uitgevra oor wat Hy gesê het. 11 Jesus het vir hulle gesê: “As ’n man van sy vrou skei en met ’n ander vrou trou, dan pleeg hy tegbreuk teen sy vrou.

12 En as ’n vrou van haar man skei en met ’n ander man trou, dan pleeg sy egbreuk.”

Jesus seën kindertjies

(Ook Matt 19:13-15; Luk 18:15-17)

15 Ek sê vir julle, en dit is seker: As iemand nie soos ’n kindjie glo dat God sy Koning is nie, dan sal hy nie kan inkom waar God Koning is nie.”

16 Jesus het die kindertjies in sy arms vasgehou. Hy het sy hande op hulle gesit en hulle tgeseën.

Geld en rykdom

(Ook Matt 19:16-30; Luk 18:18-30)

17 Toe Jesus verder wou gaan, het iemand na Hom toe gehardloop. Hy het gekniel voor Jesus en hy het vir Jesus gesê: “U is ’n goeie tleermeester. Sê vir my wat moet ek doen om die tewige lewe te kry.”
18 Maar Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Hoekom sê jy Ek is goed? Net God is goed, niemand anders nie.

19 Jy weet wat God gesê het:
“tJy mag nie iemand doodmaak nie,
jy mag nie tegbreuk pleeg nie,
jy mag nie steel nie,
jy mag nie oor ander mense
lieg nie,
jy mag nie skelm wees en iemand
anders se goed vat nie,
jy moet jou ouers respekteer.”

20 Die man het vir Jesus gesê: “Meneer, vandat ek klein was, het ek alles gedoen wat God se wette sê.”

21 Jesus het lank na hom gekyk en Hy het lief geword vir hom en vir hom gesê: “Jy moet nog een ding doen: Gaan verkoop alles wat jy het en gee die geld vir die arm mense. Dan sal jy ryk wees in die hemel. Kom dan hier en gaan saam met My.”

22 Die man was baie ongelukkig toe hy hoor wat Jesus sê. Hy het weggegaan en hy was hartseer, want hy was baie ryk.

23 Jesus het gekyk na die mense rondom Hom en Hy het vir sy tdissipels gesê: “Ryk mense sal nie maklik inkom waar God Koning is nie.”
24 Die dissipels was verbaas oor wat Jesus gesê het. Maar Jesus het ook vir hulle gesê: “My vriende, dit is baie moeilik om in te kom waar God Koning is.

25 ’n Ryk man sal moeilik inkom waar God Koning is. ’n Kameel sal makliker deur die oog van ’n naald kan gaan.”

26 Die dissipels was baie verbaas en hulle het vir mekaar gesê: “As dit so is, wie sal dan kan inkom waar God Koning is?”

27 Jesus het lank na hulle gekyk. Hy het gesê: “Mense kan nie self inkom nie, maar God kan hulle laat inkom. God kan alles doen wat Hy wil doen.”

28 Petrus het vir Jesus gesê: “Kyk na ons, ons het alles gelos wat ons gehad het en ons gaan saam met U.”
29 Jesus het gesê: “Ek sê vir julle, en dit is seker: As iemand sy huis los, of sy broers of sy susters of sy ma of sy pa of sy kinders of sy grond waarop hy gewoon het, en hy doen dit omdat hy gehoorsaam is aan My en aan die goeie boodskap, dan sal hy baie meer kry.

30 Hy sal nou, in hierdie tyd, 100 maal meer kry as wat hy gehad het. Hy sal meer huise en broers en susters en ma’s en kinders en grond kry. Die ander mense sal baie slegte dinge doen aan hom. Maar daar sal ’n nuwe tyd kom, en dan sal hy die ewige lewe kry.

31 “Baie mense wat nou belangrik is, sal dan onbelangrik wees, en mense wat nou onbelangrik is, sal dan belangrik wees.”

Jesus sê die derde maal Hy sal sterf en weer lewe

(Ook Matt 20:17-19; Luk 18:31-33)

34 en die heidene sal My spot en op My spoeg en My met ’n tsweep slaan en My doodmaak. Maar ná drie dae sal Ek weer lewe.”

Jakobus en Johannes wil langs Jesus sit

(Ook Matt 20:20-28; Luk 22:24-27)

35 Jakobus en Johannes, die seuns van Sebedeus, het na Jesus toe gekom en gesê: “Meneer, as ons vir U iets vra, dan moet U dit asseblief vir ons doen.”

36 Jesus het vir hulle gevra: “Wat wil julle hê moet Ek vir julle doen?”

37 Hulle antwoord Hom toe: “U sal koning wees oor almal. Gee dan vir ons die sitplekke langs U, een regs langs U en een links langs U.”

38 Jesus het vir hulle gesê: “Julle weet nie wat julle vra nie. Kan julle swaarkry soos Ek moet swaarkry? Kan julle uit die tbeker drink waaruit Ek moet drink? Kan julle tgedoop word soos Ek gedoop sal word?”

39 Hulle antwoord Hom: “Ons kan dit doen.”
Toe sê Jesus vir hulle: “Ja, julle sal uit dieselfde beker drink waaruit Ek moet drink, en julle sal gedoop word soos Ek gedoop sal word.

40 Maar Ek kan nie besluit wie regs langs My en wie links langs My sal sit nie. God het klaar besluit wie daar moet sit.”
41 Toe die ander tien tdissipels hoor wat Johannes en Jakobus gevra het, het hulle kwaad geword. 42 Jesus het die dissipels na Hom toe geroep en Hy het vir hulle gesê: “Julle weet daar is mense wat dink hulle kan oor ander mense regeer en hulle kan die mense verdruk, daar is belangrike mense wat altyd hard wil regeer oor ander mense. 43 Dit moenie so wees by julle nie. As een van julle die belangrikste wil wees, dan moet hy die ander mense dien. 44 En as een van julle bo die ander wil wees, dan moet hy almal se tslaaf wees.

45 Want Ek, die tSeun van die mens, het gekom, maar nie sodat almal My moet dien nie. Ek het gekom om mense te dien en om my lewe te gee en te sterf. So sal Ek betaal om baie mense vry te maak van hulle sonde.”

Jesus maak die blinde Bartimeus gesond

(Ook Matt 20:29-34; 9:27-31; Luk 18:35-43)

47 Toe hy hoor Jesus van Nasaret is daar, het hy hard begin roep: “Jesus, tSeun van Dawid, U moet asseblief jammer wees vir my en my help!”

48 Baie mense het met hom geraas en vir hom gesê hy moet stilbly, maar hy het aangehou en nog harder geskree: “Seun van Dawid, U moet asseblief jammer wees vir my en my help!”

49 Jesus het gaan staan en gesê: “Roep hom!”
Hulle roep toe die blinde man en sê vir hom: “Moenie bekommerd wees nie. Staan op, Jesus roep jou!”
50 Die blinde man het sy tbo-kleed op die grond gegooi en hy het opgespring en na Jesus toe gegaan.

51 Jesus het vir hom gevra: “Wat wil jy hê moet Ek vir jou doen?”
Die blinde man sê toe: “Meneer, ek wil weer sien!”

52 Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Jy mag gaan. Jy kan nou sien, want jy het geglo.”
Die man kon dadelik sien. Maar hy het Jesus gevolg en saamgegaan met Hom op die pad.

Mark 10

Jesus Teaches About Divorce

1 Jesus left that place and went into the area of Judea and across the Jordan River. Again crowds of people came to him. As usual, he taught them.
2 Some Pharisees came to put him to the test. They asked, "Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife?"
3 "What did Moses command you?" he replied.
4 They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a letter of divorce and send her away."
5 "You were stubborn. That's why Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied.6 "But at the beginning of creation, God 'made them male and female.' (Genesis 1:27)7 'That's why a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife.8 The two of them will become one.' (Genesis 2:24) They are no longer two, but one.9 So a man must not separate what God has joined together."
10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this.
11 He answered, "What if a man divorces his wife and gets married to another woman? He commits adultery against her.12 And what if she divorces her husband and gets married to another man? She commits adultery."

Little Children Are Brought to Jesus

13 People were bringing little children to Jesus. They wanted him to touch them. But the disciples told the people to stop.
14 When Jesus saw this, he was angry. He said to his disciples, "Let the little children come to me. Don't keep them away. God's kingdom belongs to people like them.15 What I'm about to tell you is true. Anyone who will not receive God's kingdom like a little child will never enter it."
16 Then he took the children in his arms. He put his hands on them and blessed them.

Jesus and the Rich Young Man

17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him. He fell on his knees before Jesus. "Good teacher," he said, "what must I do to receive eternal life?"
18 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good except God.19 You know what the commandments say. 'Do not commit murder. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not give false witness. Do not cheat. Honor your father and mother.' " (Exodus 20:12-16; Deuteronomy 5:16-20)
20 "Teacher," he said, "I have obeyed all those commandments since I was a boy."
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. "You are missing one thing," he said. "Go and sell everything you have. Give the money to those who are poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me."
22 The man's face fell. He went away sad, because he was very rich.
23 Jesus looked around. He said to his disciples, "How hard it is for rich people to enter God's kingdom!"
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter God's kingdom!25 Is it hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle? It is even harder for the rich to enter God's kingdom!"
26 The disciples were even more amazed. They said to each other, "Then who can be saved?"
27 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man, that is impossible. But not with God. All things are possible with God."
28 Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!"
29 "What I'm about to tell you is true," Jesus replied. "Has anyone left home or family or fields for me and the good news?30 They will receive 100 times as much in this world. They will have homes and families and fields. But they will also be treated badly by others. In the world to come they will live forever.31 But many who are first will be last. And the last will be first."

Jesus Again Tells About His Coming Death

32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem. Jesus was leading the way. The disciples were amazed. Those who followed were afraid.
Again Jesus took the Twelve to one side. He told them what was going to happen to him.33 "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said. "The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will sentence him to death. Then they will hand him over to people who are not Jews.34 The people will make fun of him and spit on him. They will whip him and kill him. Three days later he will rise from the dead!"

James and John Ask a Favor of Jesus

35 James and John came to Jesus. They were the sons of Zebedee. "Teacher," they said, "we would like to ask a favor of you."
36 "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
37 They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right hand in your glorious kingdom. Let the other one sit at your left hand."
38 "You don't know what you're asking for," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup of suffering I drink? Or can you go through the baptism of suffering I must go through?"
39 "We can," they answered.
Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink. And you will go through the baptism I go through.40 But it is not for me to say who will sit at my right or left hand. These places belong to those they are prepared for."
41 The other ten disciples heard about it. They became angry at James and John.
42 Jesus called them together. He said, "You know about those who are rulers of the nations. They hold power over their people. Their high officials order them around.43 Don't be like that. Instead, anyone who wants to be important among you must be your servant.44 And anyone who wants to be first must be the slave of everyone.45 Even the Son of Man did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others. He came to give his life as the price for setting many people free."

Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight

46 Jesus and his disciples came to Jericho. They were leaving the city. A large crowd was with them.
A blind man was sitting by the side of the road begging. His name was Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus means Son of Timaeus.47 He heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. So he began to shout, "Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!"
48 Many people commanded him to stop. They told him to be quiet. But he shouted even louder, "Son of David! Have mercy on me!"
49 Jesus stopped and said, "Call for him."
So they called out to the blind man, "Cheer up! Get up on your feet! Jesus is calling for you."
50 He threw his coat to one side. Then he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to be able to see."
52 "Go," said Jesus. "Your faith has healed you."
Right away he could see. And he followed Jesus along the road.
