Gesprek oor egskeiding
(Matt. 5:31-32; 19:1-9; Luk. 16:18)
1 Jesus het Hom gereed gemaak en daarvandaan na die gebied Judea toe vertrek, oorkant die Jordaan langs. Baie mense het weer na Hom toe gekom en, soos Hy gewoond was, het Hy hulle geleer.
2 Daar het ook Fariseërs gekom, en om Hom op die proef te stel, het hulle Hom gevra: “Mag 'n man van sy vrou skei?”
3 Hy het daarop vir hulle gevra: “Wat het Moses julle beveel?”
4 “Moses het toegelaat dat iemand 'n skeibrief opstel en skei,”t het hulle geantwoord.
5 Toe sê Jesus vir hulle: “Dit is oor die hardheid van julle harte dat hy hierdie bepaling vir julle gemaak het. 6 Maar van die begin af, van die skepping af, ‘het God hulle man en vrou gemaak.’t 7 ‘Daarom sal 'n man sy vader en moeder verlaat en saam met sy vrou lewe, 8 en hulle twee sal een wees,’t sodat hulle nie meer twee is nie, maar een. 9 Wat God dan saamgevoeg het, mag 'n mens nie skei nie.”
10 In die huis het die dissipels Hom weer hieroor uitgevra. 11 Hy sê toe vir hulle: “Elkeen wat van sy vrou skei en met 'n ander een trou, pleeg egbreuk teen sy vrou. 12 En as 'n vrou van haar man skei en met 'n ander een trou, pleeg sy egbreuk.”
Jesus seën die kindertjies
(Matt. 19:13-15; Luk. 18:15-17)
13 Die mense het kindertjies na Jesus toe gebring dat Hy hulle moet aanraak. Sy dissipels het met die mense daaroor geraas. 14 Maar toe Jesus dit sien, was Hy verontwaardig en het Hy vir hulle gesê: “Laat die kindertjies na My toe kom en moet hulle nie verhinder nie, want die koninkryk van God is juis vir mense soos hulle. 15 Dit verseker Ek julle: Wie die koninkryk van God nie soos 'n kindjie ontvang nie, sal daar nooit ingaan nie.”
16 Hy het sy arms om die kindertjies gesit, hulle die hande opgelê en hulle geseën.
Die ryk jongman
(Matt. 19:16-30; Luk. 18:18-30)
17 Net toe Jesus uit die huis uitkom om verder te gaan, kom daar iemand aangehardloop. Hy val toe voor Hom op sy knieë en vra Hom: “Goeie Leermeester, wat moet ek doen om die ewige lewe te verkry?”
18 Daarop sê Jesus vir hom: “Waarom noem jy My goed? Niemand is goed nie, behalwe God alleen. 19 Jy ken die gebooie: ‘Jy mag nie moord pleeg nie, jy mag nie egbreuk pleeg nie, jy mag nie steel nie, jy mag nie vals getuienis aflê nie,’t jy mag nie iemand veronreg nie, eer jou vader en jou moeder.t”
20 “Meneer,” sê hy vir Hom, “dit alles het ek van my kinderdae af nagekom.”
21 Jesus het na hom gekyk en hom liefgekry en vir hom gesê: “Net een ding kom jy kort. Gaan verkoop alles wat jy het, en gee die geld vir armes, en jy sal 'n skat in die hemel hê. Kom dan terug en volg My!”
22 Hy het egter geskrik toe hy dit hoor en het bedruk weggegaan, want hy het baie besittings gehad.
23 Jesus kyk toe na sy dissipels rondom Hom en sê vir hulle: “Hoe moeilik sal mense wat ryk is, in die koninkryk van God kom.”
24 Die dissipels was verbaas oor hierdie woorde van Hom. Jesus sê toe verder vir hulle: “Kinders, hoe moeilik is dit om in die koninkryk van God te kom. 25 Dit is makliker vir 'n kameel om deur die oog van 'n naald te kom as vir 'n ryke om in die koninkryk van God te kom.”
26 Dit het hulle geweldig ontstel en hulle het vir mekaar gesê: “Wie kan dan gered word?”
27 Jesus het reguit na hulle gekyk en gesê: “Vir mense is dit onmoontlik maar nie vir God nie, want vir God is alles moontlik.”
28 Petrus sê toe vir Hom: “Kyk, óns het alles verlaat en ons volg U.”
29 Jesus antwoord: “Dit verseker Ek julle: Daar is niemand wat ter wille van My en ter wille van die evangelie afgesien het van sy huis of broers of susters of moeder of vader of kinders of eiendom nie, 30 of hy kry nou in hierdie tyd honderd keer soveel: huise en broers en susters en moeders en kinders en eiendom, saam met baie vervolging, en in die bedeling wat kom, die ewige lewe. 31 Maar baie wat eerste is, sal laaste wees, en wat laaste is, eerste.”
Jesus kondig die derde keer sy dood en opstanding aan
(Matt. 20:17-19; Luk. 18:31-34)
32 Op pad Jerusalem toe het Jesus voor hulle uit geloop. Dit het die dissipels verontrus en die mense wat agterna gekom het, laat bang word. Toe het Hy weer die twaalf opsy geneem en hulle begin vertel wat met Hom gaan gebeur:
33 “Kyk, ons gaan nou Jerusalem toe. Daar sal die Seun van die mens aan die priesterhoofde en skrifgeleerdes oorgelewer word, en hulle sal Hom tot die dood veroordeel en Hom aan die heidene uitlewer. 34 Dié sal met Hom spot en op Hom spoeg en Hom slaan en Hom doodmaak. En drie dae later sal Hy uit die dood opstaan.”
Die versoek van Jakobus en Johannes
(Matt. 20:20-28)
35 Jakobus en Johannes, die seuns van Sebedeus, kom toe na Jesus toe en sê vir Hom: “Here, ons wil graag hê U moet vir ons doen wat ons U gaan vra.”
36 “Wat wil julle hê moet Ek vir julle doen?” het Hy hulle gevra.
37 Hulle het Hom geantwoord: “Wanneer U as koning heers, laat ons dan langs U sit, die een aan u regterhand en die ander een aan u linkerhand.”
38 “Julle weet nie wat julle vra nie,” sê Jesus vir hulle. “Kan julle die lydensbeker drink wat Ek drink, of met die doop gedoop word waarmee Ek gedoop word?”
39 “Ons kan,” sê hulle vir Hom. Daarop sê Jesus vir hulle: “Die beker wat Ek drink, sal julle drink, ja, en met die doop waarmee Ek gedoop word, sal julle gedoop word.
40 Maar om aan my regter- of my linkerhand te sit, daaroor besluit Ek nie; dit is vir dié vir wie God dit gereed gemaak het.”
41 Toe die tien ander dit hoor, was hulle verontwaardig oor Jakobus en Johannes. 42 Jesus roep hulle toe nader en sê vir hulle: “Julle weet dat dit by die nasies so is dat hulle sogenaamde regeerders oor hulle baasspeel en dat hulle groot manne die mag oor hulle misbruik. 43 Maar by julle moet dit nie so wees nie. Elkeen wat in julle kring groot wil word, moet julle dienaar wees; 44 en elkeen onder julle wat die eerste wil wees, moet julle almal se dienaar wees. 45 Die Seun van die mens het ook nie gekom om gedien te word nie, maar om te dien en sy lewe te gee as losprys vir baie mense.”
Jesus genees die blinde Bartimeus
(Matt. 20:29-34; Luk. 18:35-43)
46 Daarna kom hulle in Jerigo aan. Toe Jesus en sy dissipels en 'n aansienlike menigte weer daarvandaan verder gaan, sit daar 'n blinde bedelaar, Bartimeus, seun van Timeus, langs die pad. 47 Toe hy hoor dat dit Jesus van Nasaret is, het hy begin uitroep: “Jesus, Seun van Dawid, ontferm U tog oor my!”
48 Baie mense het met hom geraas en gesê hy moet stilbly. Maar hy het al hoe harder uitgeroep: “Seun van Dawid, ontferm U tog oor my!”
49 Jesus het gaan staan en gesê: “Roep hom nader.” Hulle roep toe die blinde man en sê vir hom: “Hou moed! Staan op! Hy roep jou.”
50 Hy het sy bokleed net daar gelos en opgespring en na Jesus toe gegaan. 51 Jesus vra vir hom: “Wat wil jy hê moet Ek vir jou doen?” “Rabboeni,” sê die blinde man vir Hom, “dat ek kan sien.”
52 Jesus sê daarop vir hom: “Jy kan maar gaan. Jou geloof het jou gered.” Dadelik kon hy sien en het hy op die pad agter Jesus aan gegaan.
Mark 10
1 AND [Jesus] left there [Capernaum] and went to the region of Judea and beyond [east of] the Jordan; and crowds [constantly] gathered around Him again, and as was His custom, He began to teach them again.2 And some Pharisees came up, and, in order to test Him and try to find a weakness in Him, asked, Is it lawful for a man to dismiss and repudiate and divorce his wife?3 He answered them, What did Moses command you?4 They replied, Moses allowed a man to write a bill of divorce and to put her away. 5 But Jesus said to them, Because of your hardness of heart [your condition of insensibility to the call of God] he wrote you this precept in your Law.6 But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. 7 For this reason a man shall leave [behind] his father and his mother and be joined to his wife and cleave closely to her permanently, 8 And the two shall become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has united (joined together), let not man separate or divide.10 And indoors the disciples questioned Him again about this subject.11 And He said to them, Whoever dismisses (repudiates and divorces) his wife and marries another commits adultery against her;12 And if a woman dismisses (repudiates and divorces) her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.13 And they kept bringing young children to Him that He might touch them, and the disciples were reproving them [for it].14 But when Jesus saw [it], He was indignant and pained and said to them, Allow the children to come to Me--do not forbid or prevent or hinder them--for to such belongs the kingdom of God.15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive and accept and welcome the kingdom of God like a little child [does] positively shall not enter it at all.16 And He took them [the children up one by one] in His arms and [fervently invoked a] blessing, placing His hands upon them.17 And as He was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, Teacher, [You are essentially and perfectly morally] good, what must I do to inherit eternal life [that is, to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]?18 And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me [essentially and perfectly morally] good? There is no one [essentially and perfectly morally] good--except God alone.19 You know the commandments: Do not kill, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your father and mother. 20 And he replied to Him, Teacher, I have carefully guarded and observed all these and taken care not to violate them from my boyhood.21 And Jesus, looking upon him, loved him, and He said to him, You lack one thing; go and sell all you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come [and] accompany Me [walking the same road that I walk].22 At that saying the man’s countenance fell and was gloomy, and he went away grieved and sorrowing, for he was holding great possessions.23 And Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, With what difficulty will those who possess wealth and keep on holding it enter the kingdom of God!24 And the disciples were amazed and bewildered and perplexed at His words. But Jesus said to them again, Children, how hard it is for those who trust (place their confidence, their sense of safety) in riches to enter the kingdom of God!25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.26 And they were shocked and exceedingly astonished, and said to Him and to one another , Then who can be saved?27 Jesus glanced around at them and said, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.28 Peter started to say to Him, Behold, we have yielded up and abandoned everything [once and for all and joined You as Your disciples, siding with Your party] and accompanied You [walking the same road that You walk].29 Jesus said, Truly I tell you, there is no one who has given up and left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for My sake and for the Gospel’s30 Who will not receive a hundred times as much now in this time--houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions--and in the age to come, eternal life.31 But many [who are now] first will be last [then], and many [who are now] last will be first [then].32 They were on the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on in front of them; and they were bewildered and perplexed and greatly astonished, and those [who were still] following were seized with alarm and were afraid. And He took the Twelve [apostles] again and began to tell them what was about to happen to Him,33 [Saying], Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be turned over to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn and sentence Him to death and turn Him over to the Gentiles.34 And they will mock Him and spit on Him, and whip Him and put Him to death; but after three days He will rise again [from death].35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached Him and said to Him, Teacher, we desire You to do for us whatever we ask of You.36 And He replied to them, What do you desire Me to do for you?37 And they said to Him, Grant that we may sit, one at Your right hand and one at [Your] left hand, in Your glory (Your majesty and splendor).38 But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink or be baptized with the baptism [of affliction] with which I am baptized?39 And they replied to Him, We are able. And Jesus told them, The cup that I drink you will drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized,40 But to sit at My right hand or at My left hand is not Mine to give; but [it will be given to those] for whom it is ordained and prepared.41 And when the other ten [apostles] heard it, they began to be indignant with James and John.42 But Jesus called them to [Him] and said to them, You know that those who are recognized as governing and are supposed to rule the Gentiles (the nations) lord it over them [ruling with absolute power, holding them in subjection], and their great men exercise authority and dominion over them.43 But this is not to be so among you; instead, whoever desires to be great among you must be your servant,44 And whoever wishes to be most important and first in rank among you must be slave of all.45 For even the Son of Man came not to have service rendered to Him, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for (instead of) many.46 Then they came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, a son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside.47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have pity and mercy on me [now]!48 And many severely censured and reproved him, telling him to keep still, but he kept on shouting out all the more, You Son of David, have pity and mercy on me [now]!49 And Jesus stopped and said, Call him. And they called the blind man, telling him, Take courage! Get up! He is calling you.50 And throwing off his outer garment, he leaped up and came to Jesus.51 And Jesus said to him, What do you want Me to do for you? And the blind man said to Him, Master, let me receive my sight.52 And Jesus said to him, Go your way; your faith has healed you. And at once he received his sight and accompanied Jesus on the road.
