Ekteskap og skilsmisse

(Matt 19,1–9)

1  t Han brøt opp derfra og kom til Judea og til landet bortenfor Jordan. Folk samlet seg hos ham igjen, og han underviste dem som han pleide. 2 Noen fariseere kom og spurte ham: «Har en mann lov til å skille seg fra sin kone?» De ville sette ham på prøve. 3 «Hva har Moses påbudt dere?» sa han. 4 t De svarte: «Moses har tillatt mannen å skrive skilsmissebrev og sende henne fra seg.» 5 Da sa han til dem: «Fordi dere har så harde hjerter, har Moses gitt dere dette budet. 6 t Men fra begynnelsen av, ved skapelsen, skapte Gud dem som mann og kvinne. 7 t Derfor skal mannen forlate sin far og mor og holde fast ved sin kvinne, 8  og de to skal være én kropp. Så er de ikke lenger to; de er én kropp.

9 Og det som Gud har sammenføyd, skal mennesker ikke skille.»
10 Da de var kommet i hus igjen, spurte disiplene ham om dette. 11 t Han sa til dem: «Den som skiller seg fra sin kone og gifter seg med en annen, begår ekteskapsbrudd mot den første.

12 Og om en kvinne skiller seg fra mannen sin og gifter seg med en annen, bryter hun ekteskapet.»

Jesus og barna

16 Og han tok dem inn til seg, la hendene på dem og velsignet dem.

Jesus og den rike mannen

(Matt 19,16–30; Luk 18,18–30)

22 Men han ble nedslått over dette svaret og gikk bedrøvet bort, for han eide mye.
23  t Og Jesus så seg omkring og sa til disiplene: «Hvor vanskelig det blir for dem som eier mye, å komme inn i Guds rike!» 24 t Disiplene ble forferdet over ordene hans. Men Jesus tok igjen til orde og sa: «Barn, hvor vanskelig det er {{for dem som stoler på rikdom,}} å komme inn i Guds rike. 25 Det er lettere for en kamel å gå gjennom et nåløye enn for en rik å komme inn i Guds rike.» 26 Da ble de enda mer forskrekket og sa til hverandre: «Hvem kan da bli frelst?»

27 t Jesus så på dem og sa: «For mennesker er det umulig, men ikke for Gud. Alt er mulig for Gud.»
28 Da tok Peter til orde og sa: «Hva med oss? Vi har forlatt alt og fulgt deg.» 29 Jesus svarte: «Sannelig, jeg sier dere: Enhver som har forlatt hus eller brødre eller søstre eller mor eller far eller barn eller åkrer for min skyld og for evangeliets skyld, 30 skal få hundre ganger så mye igjen. I den tiden som nå er, skal han få hus, brødre, søstre, mødre, barn og åkrer – men også forfølgelser – og i den kommende verden evig liv.

31 Men mange av de første skal bli de siste, og de siste skal bli de første.»

Jesus taler for tredje gang om sin død og oppstandelse

(Matt 20,17–19; Luk 18,31–34)

34 t og de skal håne ham og spytte på ham, piske ham og slå ham i hjel. Og tre dager etter skal han stå opp.»

Ikke herske, men tjene

(Matt 20,20–28)

40 Men hvem som skal sitte ved min høyre eller venstre side, er det ikke min sak å avgjøre. Der skal de sitte som det er gjort i stand til.»
41 Da de ti andre hørte dette, ble de sinte på Jakob og Johannes. 42 t Men Jesus kalte dem til seg og sa: «Dere vet at de som blir regnet som fyrster over folkene, undertrykker dem, og stormennene deres styrer med hard hånd. 43 t Men slik er det ikke blant dere. Den som vil bli stor blant dere, skal være tjeneren deres, 44 og den som vil være først blant dere, skal være alles slave.

45 tt For heller ikke Menneskesønnen er kommet for å la seg tjene, men for selv å tjene og gi sitt liv som løsepenge for mange.»

Divorce

1 Thent Jesust left that place and went to the region of Judea ands beyond the Jordan River.t Again crowds gathered to him, and again, as was his custom, he taught them.2 Then some Phariseesss came, and to test himt they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce hist wife?”ts3 He answered them,t “What did Moses command you?”4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.”ts5 But Jesus said to them, “He wrote this commandment for you because of your hard hearts.t6 But from the beginning of creation hesmade them male and female.s7 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother,s8 and the two will become one flesh.ss So they are no longer two, but one flesh.

9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
10 In the house once again, the disciples asked him about this.11 Sot he told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.

12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”s

Jesus and Little Children

13 Nowt people were bringing little children to him for him to touch,t but the disciples scolded those who brought them.st14 But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.s15 I tell you the truth,t whoever does not receives the kingdom of God like a childs will nevert enter it.”

16 After he took the children in his arms, he placed his hands on them and blessed them.

The Rich Man

17 Nowt as Jesusts was starting out on his way, someone ran up to him, fell on his knees, and said, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”s18 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good?s No one is good except God alone.19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony,do not defraud, honor your father and mother.’”s20 The mant said to him, “Teacher, I have wholeheartedly obeyedt all these lawsts since my youth.”s21 As Jesus looked at him, he felt love for him and said, “You lack one thing. Go, sell whatever you have and give the moneyt to the poor, and you will have treasures in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 But at this statement, the mant looked sad and went away sorrowful, for he was very rich.t
23 Thent Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”24 The disciples were astonished at these words. But again Jesus said to them,t “Children, how hard it iss to enter the kingdom of God!25 It is easier for a camels to go through the eye of a needles than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”26 They were even more astonished and saidt to one another, “Thent who can be saved?”s

27 Jesus looked at them and replied, “This is impossible for mere humans,t but not for God; all things are possible for God.”
28 Peter began to speak to him, “Look,s we have left everything to follow you!”t29 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth,t there is no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the gospel30 who will not receive in this aget a hundred times as much – homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, fields, all with persecutionst – and in the age to come, eternal life.s

31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

Third Prediction of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection

32 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem.s Jesus was going ahead of them, and they were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was going to happen to him.33 “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and experts in the law.t They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles.

34 They will mock him, spit on him, flogt him severely, and kill him. Yett after three days,s he will rise again.”

The Request of James and John

35 Thent James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”36 He said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”37 They said to him, “Permit one of us to sit at your right hand and the other at your left in your glory.”38 But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I experience?”t39 They said to him, “We are able.”s Then Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism I experience,

40 but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give. It is for those for whom it has been prepared.”s
41 Nowt when the other tent heard this,t they became angry with James and John.42 Jesus called them and said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.43 But it is not this way among you. Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slavet of all.

45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransoms for many.”

Healing Blind Bartimaeus

46 They came to Jericho.s As Jesust and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus the son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to shout,t “Jesus, Son of David,s have mercys on me!”48 Many scoldedt him to get him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” Sot they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage! Get up! He is calling you.”50 He threw off his cloak, jumped up, and came to Jesus.51 Thent Jesus said to him,t “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replied, “Rabbi,t let me see again.”t

52 Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has healed you.” Immediately he regainedt his sight and followed him on the road.
