Marcos 10

Discusión sobre el divorcio y el matrimonio

1  Luego Jesús salió de Capernaúm, descendió a la región de Judea y entró en la zona que está al oriente del río Jordán. Una vez más, las multitudes lo rodearon, y él les enseñaba como de costumbre.

2 Unos fariseos se acercaron y trataron de tenderle una trampa con la siguiente pregunta:
—¿Está bien permitir que un hombre se divorcie de su esposa?

3 Jesús les contestó con otra pregunta:
—¿Qué dijo Moisés en la ley sobre el divorcio?

4 —Bueno, él lo permitió —contestaron—. Dijo que un hombre puede darle a su esposa un aviso de divorcio por escrito y despedirla.t

5 Jesús les respondió:
—Moisés escribió ese mandamiento sólo como una concesión ante la dureza del corazón de ustedes, 6 pero desde el principio de la creación “Dios los hizo hombre y mujer”t. 7 “Esto explica por qué un hombre deja a su padre y a su madre, y se une a su esposa,t 8 y los dos se convierten en uno solo”t. Como ya no son dos sino uno, 9 que nadie separe lo que Dios ha unido.

10 Más tarde, cuando quedó a solas con sus discípulos en la casa, ellos sacaron el tema de nuevo. 11 Él les dijo: «El que se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra comete adulterio contra ella; 12 y si una mujer se divorcia de su marido y se casa con otro, comete adulterio».

Jesús bendice a los niños

13 Cierto día, algunos padres llevaron a sus niños a Jesús para que los tocara y los bendijera, pero los discípulos regañaron a los padres por molestarlo.

14 Cuando Jesús vio lo que sucedía, se enojó con sus discípulos y les dijo: «Dejen que los niños vengan a mí. ¡No los detengan! Pues el reino de Dios pertenece a los que son como estos niños. 15 Les digo la verdad, el que no reciba el reino de Dios como un niño nunca entrará en él». 16 Entonces tomó a los niños en sus brazos y después de poner sus manos sobre la cabeza de ellos, los bendijo.

El hombre rico

17 Cuando Jesús estaba por emprender su camino a Jerusalén, un hombre se le acercó corriendo, se arrodilló y le preguntó:
—Maestro bueno, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la vida eterna?

18 —¿Por qué me llamas bueno? —preguntó Jesús—. Sólo Dios es verdaderamente bueno; 19 pero para contestar a tu pregunta, tú conoces los mandamientos: «No asesines; no cometas adulterio; no robes; no des falso testimonio; no estafes a nadie; honra a tu padre y a tu madre»t.

20 —Maestro —respondió el hombre—, he obedecido todos esos mandamientos desde que era joven.

21 Jesús miró al hombre y sintió profundo amor por él.
—Hay una cosa que todavía no has hecho —le dijo—. Anda y vende todas tus posesiones y entrega el dinero a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo. Después ven y sígueme.

22 Al oír esto, el hombre puso cara larga y se fue triste porque tenía muchas posesiones.

23 Jesús miró a su alrededor y dijo a sus discípulos: «¡Qué difícil es para los ricos entrar en el reino de Dios!». 24 Los discípulos quedaron asombrados de sus palabras. Pero Jesús volvió a decir: «Queridos hijos, es muy difícilt entrar en el reino de Dios. 25 De hecho, ¡es más fácil que un camello pase por el ojo de una aguja que un rico entre en el reino de Dios!».

26 Los discípulos quedaron atónitos.
—Entonces, ¿quién podrá ser salvo? —preguntaron.

27 Jesús los miró fijamente y dijo:
—Humanamente hablando, es imposible, pero no para Dios. Con Dios, todo es posible.

28 Entonces Pedro comenzó a hablar.
—Nosotros hemos dejado todo para seguirte —dijo.

29 —Así es —respondió Jesús—, y les aseguro que todo el que haya dejado casa o hermanos o hermanas o madre o padre o hijos o bienes por mi causa y por la Buena Noticia 30 recibirá ahora a cambio cien veces más el número de casas, hermanos, hermanas, madres, hijos y bienes, junto con persecución; y en el mundo que vendrá, esa persona tendrá la vida eterna. 31 Pero muchos que ahora son los más importantes, en ese día serán los menos importantes, y aquellos que ahora parecen menos importantes, en ese día serán los más importantes.t

Jesús predice nuevamente su muerte

32 Subían rumbo a Jerusalén, y Jesús caminaba delante de ellos. Los discípulos estaban llenos de asombro y la gente que los seguía, abrumada de temor. Jesús tomó a los doce discípulos aparte y, una vez más, comenzó a describir todo lo que estaba por sucederle. 33 «Escuchen —les dijo—, subimos a Jerusalén, donde el Hijo del Hombret será traicionado y entregado a los principales sacerdotes y a los maestros de la ley religiosa. Lo condenarán a muerte y lo entregarán a los romanos.t 34 Se burlarán de él, lo escupirán, lo azotarán con un látigo y lo matarán; pero después de tres días, resucitará».

Jesús enseña sobre el servicio a los demás

35 Entonces Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, se le acercaron y dijeron:
—Maestro, queremos que nos hagas un favor.

36 —¿Cuál es la petición? —preguntó él.

37 Ellos contestaron:
—Cuando te sientes en tu trono glorioso, nosotros queremos sentarnos en lugares de honor a tu lado, uno a tu derecha y el otro a tu izquierda.

38 Jesús les dijo:
—¡No saben lo que piden! ¿Acaso pueden beber de la copa amarga de sufrimiento que yo estoy a punto de beber? ¿Acaso pueden ser bautizados con el bautismo de sufrimiento con el cual yo tengo que ser bautizado?

39 —Claro que sí —contestaron ellos—, ¡podemos!
Entonces Jesús les dijo:
—Es cierto, beberán de mi copa amarga y serán bautizados con mi bautismo de sufrimiento; 40 pero no me corresponde a mí decir quién se sentará a mi derecha o a mi izquierda. Dios preparó esos lugares para quienes él ha escogido.

41 Cuando los otros diez discípulos oyeron lo que Santiago y Juan habían pedido, se indignaron. 42 Así que Jesús los reunió a todos y les dijo: «Ustedes saben que los gobernantes de este mundo tratan a su pueblo con prepotencia y los funcionarios hacen alarde de su autoridad frente a los súbditos. 43 Pero entre ustedes será diferente. El que quiera ser líder entre ustedes deberá ser sirviente, 44 y el que quiera ser el primero entre ustedes deberá ser esclavo de los demás. 45 Pues ni aun el Hijo del Hombre vino para que le sirvan, sino para servir a otros y para dar su vida en rescate por muchos».

Jesús sana al ciego Bartimeo

46 Después llegaron a Jericó y mientras Jesús y sus discípulos salían de la ciudad, una gran multitud los siguió. Un mendigo ciego llamado Bartimeo (hijo de Timeo) estaba sentado junto al camino. 47 Cuando Bartimeo oyó que Jesús de Nazaret estaba cerca, comenzó a gritar: «¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!».

48 «¡Cállate!», muchos le gritaban, pero él gritó aún más fuerte: «¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!».

49 Cuando Jesús lo oyó, se detuvo y dijo: «Díganle que se acerque».
Así que llamaron al ciego. «Anímate —le dijeron—. ¡Vamos, él te llama!». 50 Bartimeo echó a un lado su abrigo, se levantó de un salto y se acercó a Jesús.

51 —¿Qué quieres que haga por ti? —preguntó Jesús.
—Mi Rabít —dijo el hombre ciego—, ¡quiero ver!

52 Y Jesús le dijo:
—Puedes irte, pues tu fe te ha sanado.
Al instante el hombre pudo ver y siguió a Jesús por el camino.t

MARK 10

Teaching about Divorce

(Matthew 19.1-12; Luke 16.18)

1 After Jesus left, he went to Judea and then on to the other side of the Jordan River. Once again large crowds came to him, and as usual, he taught them.
2 Some Pharisees wanted to test Jesus. So they came up to him and asked if it was right for a man to divorce his wife.

3 Jesus asked them, “What does the Law of Moses say about this?”

4  t They answered, “Moses allows a man to write out divorce papers and send his wife away.”
5 Jesus replied, “Moses gave you this law because you are so heartless. 6 t But in the beginning God made a man and a woman. 7 t That's why a man leaves his father and mother and gets married. 8 He becomes like one person with his wife. Then they are no longer two people, but one.

9 And no one should separate a couple that God has joined together.”
10 When Jesus and his disciples were back in the house, they asked him about what he had said. 11 t He told them, “A man who divorces his wife and marries someone else is unfaithful to his wife.

12 A woman who divorces her husbandt and marries again is also unfaithful.”

Jesus Blesses Little Children

(Matthew 19.13-15; Luke 18.15-17)

13 Some people brought their children to Jesus so he could bless them by placing his hands on them. But his disciples told the people to stop bothering him.
14 When Jesus saw this, he became angry and said, “Let the children come to me! Don't try to stop them. People who are like these little children belong to the kingdom of God.t 15 t I promise you that you cannot get into God's kingdom, unless you accept it the way a child does.”

16 Then Jesus took the children in his arms and blessed them by placing his hands on them.

A Rich Man

(Matthew 19.16-30; Luke 18.18-30)

17 As Jesus was walking down a road, a man ran up to him. He knelt down, and asked, “Good teacher, what can I do to have eternal life?”
18 Jesus replied, “Why do you call me good? Only God is good.

19 t You know the commandments. ‘Do not murder. Be faithful in marriage. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Do not cheat. Respect your father and mother.’ ”

20 The man answered, “Teacher, I have obeyed all these commandments since I was a young man.”

21 Jesus looked closely at the man. He liked him and said, “There's one thing you still need to do. Go sell everything you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come with me.”

22 When the man heard Jesus say this, he went away gloomy and sad because he was very rich.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “It's hard for rich people to get into God's kingdom!” 24 The disciples were shocked to hear this. So Jesus told them again, “It's terribly hardt to get into God's kingdom!

25 In fact, it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God's kingdom.”

26 Jesus' disciples were even more amazed. They asked each other, “How can anyone ever be saved?”

27 Jesus looked at them and said, “There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything.”

28 Peter replied, “Remember, we left everything to be your followers!”

29 Jesus told him:
You can be sure that anyone who gives up home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or land for me and for the good news 30 will be rewarded. In this world they will be given 100 times as many houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and pieces of land, though they will also be mistreated. And in the world to come, they will have eternal life.

31 t But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first.

Jesus Again //Tells about His Death

(Matthew 20.17-19; Luke 18.31-34)

32 The disciples were confused as Jesus led them toward Jerusalem, and his other followers were afraid. Once again, Jesus took the twelve disciples aside and told them what was going to happen to him. He said:
33 We are now on our way to Jerusalem where the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses. They will sentence him to death and hand him over to foreigners, t

34 who will make fun of him and spit on him. They will beat him and kill him. But three days later he will rise to life.

The Request of James //and John

(Matthew 20.20-28)

35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, will you do us a favor?”
36 Jesus asked them what they wanted,

37 and they answered, “When you come into your glory, please let one of us sit at your right side and the other at your left.”t

38  t Jesus told them, “You don't really know what you're asking! Are you able to drink from the cupt that I must soon drink from or be baptized as I must be baptized?”t

39 “Yes, we are!” James and John answered.
Then Jesus replied, “You certainly will drink from the cup from which I must drink. And you will be baptized just as I must!

40 But it isn't for me to say who will sit at my right side and at my left. This is for God to decide.”
41 When the ten other disciples heard this, they were angry with James and John.

42 t But Jesus called the disciples together and said:
You know that those foreigners who call themselves kings like to order their people around. And their great leaders have full power over the people they rule. 43 t But don't act like them. If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others. 44 And if you want to be first, you must be everyone's slave.

45 t The Son of Man did not come to be a slave master, but a slave who will give his life to rescuet many people.

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

(Matthew 20.29-34; Luke 18.35-43)

48 Many people told the man to stop, but he shouted even louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!”

49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him over!”
They called out to the blind man and said, “Don't be afraid! Come on! He is calling for you.”

50 The man threw off his coat as he jumped up and ran to Jesus.

51 Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The blind man answered, “Master, t I want to see!”

52 Jesus told him, “You may go. Your eyes are healed because of your faith.”
At once the man could see, and he went down the road with Jesus.
