Die gelykenis van die boere en die wingerd
(Matt. 21:33-46; Luk. 20:9-19)
1 Jesus het voortgegaan om in gelykenisse met hulle te praat en gesê: “'n Man het 'n wingerd aangeplant en 'n klipmuur daar rondom gebou. Hy het daarin ook 'n parskuip uitgekap en 'n wagtoring opgerig. Toe het hy dit aan boere verhuur en daarvandaan weggegaan. 2 Op die vasgestelde tyd het hy 'n slaaf na die boere toe gestuur om by hulle sy deel van die wingerd se opbrengs te kry. 3 Hulle het hom egter gegryp en geslaan en met leë hande weggejaag. 4 Daarna het hy 'n ander slaaf na hulle toe gestuur. Hulle het hom oor die kop geslaan en hom uitgeskel. 5 Hy het nog 'n ander een gestuur en vir hom het hulle doodgemaak. Later het hy nog baie ander gestuur; hulle het party geslaan en ander doodgemaak. 6 Hy het nog net een oorgehad, sy geliefde seun. Heel laaste het hy hom na hulle toe gestuur met die gedagte: hulle sal tog my seun ontsien. 7 Maar daardie boere het vir mekaar gesê: ‘Dit is die erfgenaam dié. Kom ons maak hom dood; dan sal die erfenis ons s'n wees.’ 8 Hulle het hom toe gegryp en doodgemaak en hom uit die wingerd uitgegooi.
9 “Wat dink julle sal die eienaar van die wingerd nou doen? Hy sal kom en die boere om die lewe bring en die wingerd vir ander mense gee. 10 Julle het tog al in die Skrif gelees: “Die klip wat deur die bouers afgekeur is, juis hy het die belangrikste klip in die gebou geword.
11 Dit is deur die Here gedoen en is 'n wonder in ons oë.t”
12 Hulle het toe na 'n plan gesoek om Hom te laat vang, want hulle het besef dat Hy met hierdie gelykenis op hulle gesinspeel het. Maar hulle was bang vir die mense en het Hom laat staan en weggegaan.
Die vraag oor die betaal van belasting
(Matt. 22:15-22; Luk. 20:20-26)
13 Toe stuur hulle 'n paar van die Fariseërs en van die Herodiane na Jesus toe om Hom met 'n vraag in 'n strik te vang. 14 Hulle kom sê toe vir Hom: “Meneer, ons weet dat u iemand is wat u mening eerlik uitspreek sonder om mense in aanmerking te neem, want u let nie op die aansien van persone nie. U is getrou aan die waarheid en so maak u die wil van God bekend. Is dit reg om aan die keiser belasting te betaal, of is dit nie? Moet ons betaal, of moet ons nie betaal nie?”
15 Jesus het egter geweet dat hulle huigel en Hy het vir hulle gesê: “Waarom stel julle vir My 'n strik? Bring vir My 'n muntstuk dat Ek sien.”
16 Hulle bring toe vir Hom een en Hy vra vir hulle: “Wie se kop en naam is hierop?” “Die keiser s'n,” antwoord hulle Hom.
17 Jesus sê toe vir hulle: “Gee aan die keiser wat aan die keiser behoort, en aan God wat aan God behoort.”
En hulle was stom van verbasing oor Hom.
Die vraag oor die opstanding uit die dood
(Matt. 22:23-33; Luk. 20:27-40)
18 Toe kom daar Sadduseërs na Jesus toe. Dit is hulle wat beweer dat daar nie 'n opstanding is nie. 19 Hulle vra Hom toe: “Meneer, Moses het vir ons voorgeskrywe: ‘As iemand se broer sterwe en 'n vrou agterlaat maar nie kinders het nie, moet hy met die weduwee van sy broer trou en 'n nageslag vir sy broer verwek.’t 20 Nou was daar sewe broers. Die oudste het getrou en by sy sterwe geen kinders gehad nie. 21 Die tweede het toe met die weduwee getrou, maar hy het ook gesterwe sonder om kinders agter te laat, en die derde net so. 22 Nie een van die sewe het kinders by haar gehad nie. Heel laaste het die vrou toe ook gesterwe. 23 Met die opstanding, wanneer hulle uit die dood opstaan, wie van hulle se vrou sal sy wees? Al sewe het haar mos as vrou gehad.”
24 Jesus sê vir hulle: “Is die rede waarom julle dwaal, nie juis dat julle nie die Skrif ken nie en ook nie die krag van God nie? 25 Ja, want wanneer die mense uit die dood opstaan, trou hulle nie meer nie, maar is hulle soos die engele in die hemel. 26 En dat die dooies opgewek word, het julle dan nie in die boek van Moses, in die gedeelte oor die doringbos, gelees hoe God vir hom gesê het: ‘Ek is die God van Abraham, die God van Isak, die God van Jakob’t nie? 27 Hy is nie 'n God van dooies nie maar van lewendes. Julle is dus heeltemal aan die dwaal!”
Die vraag oor die grootste gebod
(Matt. 22:34-40; Luk. 10:25-28)
28 Een van die skrifgeleerdes het hulle hoor redeneer en het nader gestaan. Toe hy sien dat Jesus hulle 'n goeie antwoord gegee het, vra hy vir Hom: “Wat is die heel grootste gebod?”
29 Jesus antwoord hom: “Die eerste is: ‘Luister, Israel, die Here ons God is die enigste Here. 30 Jy moet die Here jou God liefhê met jou hele hart en met jou hele siel en met jou hele verstand en met al jou krag.’t 31 Die tweede is: ‘Jy moet jou naaste liefhê soos jouself.’t Geen ander gebod is groter as dié twee nie.”
32 “Pragtig, Meneer!” sê die skrifgeleerde vir Hom. “Dit is waar wat u gesê het: ‘Die Here is die enigste God,’t en ‘daar is geen ander God as Hy nie.t’ 33 En ‘om Hom lief te hê met jou hele hart en met jou hele denke en met al jou krag’t en ‘om jou naaste lief te hê soos jouself’t is van meer belang as al die brandoffers en ander diereoffers.”
34 Toe Jesus hom so verstandig hoor praat, sê Hy vir hom: “Jy is nie ver van die koninkryk van God af nie.”
Niemand het dit toe meer gewaag om Hom 'n vraag te stel nie.
Die vraag oor die seun van Dawid
(Matt. 22:41-46; Luk. 20:41-44)
35 Jesus het toe voortgegaan om die mense in die tempel te leer, en Hy het vir hulle gesê: “Hoe is dit dat die skrifgeleerdes sê dat die Christus die seun van Dawid is? 36 Dawid self het deur die ingewing van die Gees gesê: “ ‘Die Here het vir my Here gesê: Sit aan my regterhand totdat Ek jou vyande aan jou onderwerp het.’t
37 “Dawid self noem Hom ‘Here’; hoe kan Hy dan sy seun wees?”
Die groot menigte mense het graag na Hom geluister.
Jesus waarsku teen die skrifgeleerdes
(Matt. 23:1-36; Luk. 20:45-47)
38 Terwyl Jesus die mense leer, het Hy gesê: “Pas op vir die skrifgeleerdes, wat daarvan hou om met swierige klere rond te stap en om op straat begroet te word, 39 wat die voorste sitplekke in die sinagoges en die ereplekke by die feesmaaltye wil hê. 40 Hulle palm die huise van die weduwees in en sê vir die skyn lang gebede op. Hulle sal baie swaar gestraf word.”
Die arm weduwee se gawe
(Luk. 21:1-4)
41 Jesus het toe regoor die offergawekis gaan sit en kyk hoe die mense geld daar ingooi. Baie ryk mense het baie geld ingegooi. 42 Daar het toe 'n arm weduwee gekom en twee muntstukkies ingegooi. Dit was baie min werd. 43 Hy het sy dissipels nader geroep en vir hulle gesê: “Dit verseker Ek julle: Hierdie arm weduwee het meer ingegooi as al die ander mense wat iets in die offergawekis gegooi het. 44 Hulle het almal uit hulle oorvloed iets ingegooi, maar sy het in haar gebrek alles ingegooi wat sy gehad het, alles waarvan sy moes lewe.”
Mark 12
1 AND [Jesus] started to speak to them in parables [with comparisons and illustrations]. A man planted a vineyard and put a hedge around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower and let it out [for rent] to vinedressers and went into another country.2 When the season came, he sent a bond servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.3 But they took him and beat him and sent him away without anything.4 Again he sent to them another bond servant, and they stoned him and wounded him in the head and treated him shamefully [sending him away with insults].5 And he sent another, and that one they killed; then many others--some they beat, and some they put to death.6 He had still one left [to send], a beloved son; last of all he sent him to them, saying, They will respect my son.7 But those tenants said to one another, Here is the heir; come on, let us put him to death, and [then] the inheritance will be ours.8 And they took him and killed him, and threw [his body] outside the vineyard.9 Now what will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others.10 Have you not even read this [passage of] Scripture: The very Stone which [after putting It to the test] the builders rejected has become the Head of the corner [Cornerstone];11 This is from the Lord and is His doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? 12 And they were trying to get hold of Him, but they were afraid of the people, for they knew that He spoke this parable with reference to and against them. So they left Him and departed. 13 But they sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to Him for the purpose of entrapping Him in His speech.14 And they came up and said to Him, Teacher, we know that You are sincere and what You profess to be, that You cannot lie, and that You have no personal bias for anyone; for You are not influenced by partiality and have no regard for anyone’s external condition or position, but in [and on the basis of] truth You teach the way of God. Is it lawful (permissible and right) to give tribute (poll taxes) to Caesar or not?15 Should we pay [them] or should we not pay [them]? But knowing their hypocrisy, He asked them, Why do you put Me to the test? Bring Me a coin (a denarius), so I may see it.16 And they brought [Him one]. Then He asked them, Whose image (picture) is this? And whose superscription (title)? They said to Him, Caesar’s.17 Jesus said to them, Pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s. And they stood marveling and greatly amazed at Him.18 And [some] Sadducees came to Him, [of that party] who say there is no resurrection, and they asked Him a question, saying,19 Teacher, Moses gave us [a law] that if a man’s brother died, leaving a wife but no child, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers; the first one took a wife and died, leaving no children.21 And the second [brother] married her, and died, leaving no children; and the third did the same;22 And all seven, leaving no children. Last of all, the woman died also.23 Now in the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For the seven were married to her.24 Jesus said to them, Is not this where you wander out of the way and go wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God?25 For when they arise from among the dead, [men] do not marry nor are [women] given in marriage, but are like the angels in heaven.26 But concerning the dead being raised--have you not read in the book of Moses, [in the passage] about the [burning] bush, how God said to him, I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not the God of [the] dead, but of [the] living! You are very wrong.28 Then one of the scribes came up and listened to them disputing with one another, and, noticing that Jesus answered them fitly and admirably, he asked Him, Which commandment is first and most important of all [in its nature]?29 Jesus answered, The first and principal one of all commands is: Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord;30 And you shall love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soul (your life) and out of and with all your mind (with your faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all your strength. This is the first and principal commandment. 31 The second is like it and is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said to Him, Excellently and fitly and admirably answered, Teacher! You have said truly that He is One, and there is no other but Him;33 And to love Him out of and with all the heart and with all the understanding [with the faculty of quick apprehension and intelligence and keenness of discernment] and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. [I Sam. 15:22; Hos. 6:6; Mic. 6:6-8; Heb. 10:8.]34 And when Jesus saw that he answered intelligently (discreetly and having his wits about him), He said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. And after that no one ventured or dared to ask Him any further question.35 And as Jesus taught in [a porch or court of] the temple, He said, How can the scribes say that the Christ is David’s Son?36 David himself, [inspired] in the Holy Spirit, declared, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies [a footstool] under Your feet. 37 David himself calls Him Lord; so how can it be that He is his Son? Now the great mass of the people heard [Jesus] gladly [listening to Him with delight].38 And in [the course of] His teaching, He said, Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and [to get] greetings in the marketplaces [public forums],39 And [have] the front seats in the synagogues and the chief couches (places of honor) at feasts,40 Who devour widows’ houses and to cover it up make long prayers. They will receive the heavier [sentence of] condemnation.41 And He sat down opposite the treasury and saw how the crowd was casting money into the treasury. Many rich [people] were throwing in large sums.42 And a widow who was poverty-stricken came and put in two copper mites [the smallest of coins], which together make half of a cent.43 And He called His disciples [to Him] and said to them, Truly and surely I tell you, this widow, [she who is] poverty-stricken, has put in more than all those contributing to the treasury.44 For they all threw in out of their abundance; but she, out of her deep poverty, has put in everything that she had--[even] all she had on which to live.
