Markus 12

Vinbøndene og arvingen

(Matt 21,33–46; Luk 20,9–19)

1  t Så tok han til å tala til dei i likningar: «Ein mann planta ei vinmark. Han sette gjerde rundt, hogg ut ei vinpresse og bygde eit vakttårn. Så leigde han marka bort til nokre vinbønder og drog utanlands.
2 Då tida kom, sende han ein tenar til bøndene for å få sin del av avlinga. 3 Men dei greip tenaren, skamslo han og sende han tomhendt bort. 4 Sidan sende eigaren ein annan tenar til dei. Han slo dei i hovudet og spotta. 5 Då sende han endå ein, og han slo dei i hel. Såleis gjekk det med mange: Somme skamslo dei, og somme drap dei. 6 t No hadde han ein einaste att, sin eigen son, som han hadde så kjær. Til sist sende han sonen til dei, for han tenkte: ‘Son min har dei nok vørdnad for.’ 7 Men vinbøndene sa til kvarandre: ‘Der har vi arvingen. Kom, lat oss slå han i hel, og arven er vår.’

8 Så tok dei han og slo han i hel og kasta han ut av vingarden.
9 Kva skal no vingardsherren gjera? Han skal koma og gjera ende på vinbøndene og la andre få vingarden.

10 t Har de ikkje lese dette ordet i Skrifta:
Steinen som bygningsmennene vraka,
har vorte hjørnestein.

11  Det er Herrens eige verk,
underfullt er det i våre auge. »

12 Då ville dei gjerne ha gripe han, for dei skjøna at det var dei han sikta til med likninga si. Men dei torde ikkje for folket. Difor lét dei han vera og gjekk sin veg.

Er det rett å svara skatt til keisaren?

(Matt 22,15–22; Luk 20,20–26)

13  t Sidan sende dei nokre av farisearane og herodianarane som skulle fanga han i ord. 14 Dei kom og sa til han: «Meister, vi veit at du er ærleg og ikkje bryr deg om kva andre meiner. For du gjer ikkje skilnad på folk, men lærer i sanning Guds veg. Er det rett å svara skatt til keisaren, eller er det ikkje? Skal vi betala, eller skal vi la det vera?» 15 t Men Jesus merka hykleriet deira og sa til dei: «Kvifor set de meg på prøve? Kom med ein denar og lat meg få sjå han!» 16 Dei gav han ein, og han spurde: «Kven har biletet og namnet sitt her?» «Keisaren», svara dei.

17 t Då sa Jesus til dei: «Gjev då keisaren det som høyrer keisaren til, og Gud det som høyrer Gud til!» Og dei undra seg over han.

Oppstoda frå dei døde

(Matt 22,23–33; Luk 20,27–38)

18  t Så kom det nokre saddukearar til han, dei som seier at dei døde ikkje skal stå opp. Og dei la fram for han dette spørsmålet: 19 t «Meister, Moses har gjeve oss dette påbodet: Om ein mann har ein bror som døyr og etterlèt seg kone, men ikkje born, skal han gifta seg med enkja og halda oppe ætta til bror sin. 20 No var det sju brør. Den første tok seg ei kone, men døydde utan å etterlata seg born. 21 Så gifte den andre seg med henne; han òg døydde barnlaus, og på same måten gjekk det med den tredje. 22 Ingen av dei sju etterlét seg born. Sist av dei alle døydde kvinna.

23 Men i oppstoda, den dagen dei står opp att, kven av dei skal då ha henne til kone? Alle sju har då vore gifte med henne.»
24 Jesus sa til dei: «De er på ville vegar! Og er ikkje det fordi de verken kjenner skriftene eller Guds makt? 25 For når dei døde står opp, gifter dei seg ikkje og blir ikkje bortgifte; nei, dei er som englane i himmelen. 26 t Men at dei døde står opp, har de ikkje lese om det i Moseboka, i forteljinga om klungeren? Gud tala til Moses og sa: ‘ Eg er Abrahams Gud og Isaks Gud og Jakobs Gud. ’

27 Han er ikkje ein Gud for døde, men for levande. De er heilt på ville vegar.»

Det første bodet

(Matt 22,34–40; Luk 10,25–28)

28 Ein av dei skriftlærde som hadde høyrt på dette ordskiftet, skjøna at Jesus hadde svara dei godt. No kom han bort til han og spurde: «Kva for eit bod er det første av alle?» 29 t Jesus svara: «Dette er det første bodet: ‘ Høyr, Israel! Herren vår Gud, Herren er éin. 30  Du skal elska Herren din Gud av heile ditt hjarte og av heile di sjel og av alt ditt vit og av all di makt. ’ 31 t Det andre er dette: ‘ Du skal elska nesten din som deg sjølv. ’ Noko større bod enn desse finst ikkje.» 32 t Den skriftlærde sa til han: «Du svarar godt, meister! Det er sant som du seier: Herren er éin, og det finst ingen annan enn han. 33 t Å elska han av heile sitt hjarte og av alt sitt vit og av all si makt og å elska nesten sin som seg sjølv, det er meir verdt enn alle brennoffer og slaktoffer.»

34 Då Jesus høyrde kor klokt han svara, sa han til den skriftlærde: «Du er ikkje langt borte frå Guds rike.» Og ingen våga å spørja han meir.

Kven Messias er

(Matt 22,41–46; Luk 20,41–44)

35 Ein gong Jesus underviste på tempelplassen, sa han: «Korleis kan dei skriftlærde seia at Messias er Davids son?

36 t For David sjølv seier i Den heilage ande:
‘ Herren sa til min herre:
Set deg ved mi høgre hand
til eg får lagt dine fiendar
under dine føter. ’

37 David sjølv kallar han herre, korleis kan han då vera Davids son?»

Jesus åtvarar mot dei skriftlærde

(Luk 20,45–47)

Den store folkemengda høyrde gjerne på Jesus. 38 t Og medan han underviste, sa han: «Pass dykk for dei skriftlærde! Dei vil gjerne gå omkring i lange kapper, ta imot helsingar på torget, 39 sitja fremst i synagogane og ha heidersplassane i gjestebod.

40 t Dei et enkjer ut av huset og held lange bøner for syns skuld. Dei skal få så mykje hardare dom.»

Den fattige enkja som gav

(Luk 21,1–4)

41  t t Ein gong sette Jesus seg midt imot tempelkista og såg på korleis folk la pengar i henne. Og mange rike gav mykje. 42 t Så kom det ei fattig enkje og la i to småmyntar, nokre få øre. 43 t Då kalla han læresveinane til seg og sa: «Sanneleg, eg seier dykk: Denne fattige enkja har gjeve meir enn nokon av dei andre som la pengar i tempelkista. 44 For dei gav alle av si overflod, men ho gav av sin fattigdom alt det ho eigde, alt det ho skulle leva av.»

MARK 12

Renters of a Vineyard

(Matthew 21.33-46; Luke 20.9-19)

1  t Jesus then told them this story:
A farmer once planted a vineyard. He built a wall around it and dug a pit to crush the grapes in. He also built a lookout tower. Then he rented out his vineyard and left the country.
2 When it was harvest time, he sent a servant to get his share of the grapes.

3 The renters grabbed the servant, beat him up, and sent him away without a thing.
4 The owner sent another servant, but the renters beat him on the head and insulted him terribly.

5 Then the man sent another servant, and they killed him. He kept sending servant after servant. They beat some of them and killed some.
6 The owner had a son he loved very much. Finally, he sent his son to the renters because he thought they would respect him. 7 But they said to themselves, “Someday he will own this vineyard. Let's kill him! That way we can have it all for ourselves.”

8 So they grabbed the owner's son, killed him, and threw his body out of the vineyard.
9 Jesus asked, “What do you think the owner of the vineyard will do? He will come and kill those renters and let someone else have his vineyard.

10 t You surely know that the Scriptures say,
‘The stone the builders
tossed aside
is now the most important
stone of all.

11 This is something
the Lord has done,
and it is amazing to us.’ ”

12 The leaders knew that Jesus was really talking about them, and they wanted to arrest him. But because they were afraid of the crowd, they let him alone and left.

Paying Taxes

(Matthew 22.15-22; Luke 20.20-26)

13 The Pharisees got together with Herod's followers.t Then they sent some men to trick Jesus into saying something wrong.

14 They went to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are honest. You treat everyone with the same respect, no matter who they are. And you teach the truth about what God wants people to do. Tell us, should we pay taxes to the Emperor or not?”

15 Jesus knew what they were up to, and he said, “Why are you trying to test me? Show me a coin!”

16 They brought him a silver coin, and he asked, “Whose picture and name are on it?”
“The Emperor's,” they answered.

17 Then Jesus told them, “Give the Emperor what belongs to him and give God what belongs to God.” The men were amazed at Jesus.

Life in the Future World

(Matthew 22.23-33; Luke 20.27-40)

18  t The Sadducees did not believe that people would rise to life after death. So some of them came to Jesus and said:
19  t Teacher, Moses wrote that if a married man dies and has no children, his brother should marry the widow. Their first son would then be thought of as the son of the dead brother. 20 There were once seven brothers. The first one married, but died without having any children. 21 The second brother married his brother's widow, and he also died without having children. The same thing happened to the third brother, 22 and finally to all seven brothers. At last the woman died.

23 When God raises people from death, whose wife will this woman be? After all, she had been married to all seven brothers.

24 Jesus answered:
You are completely wrong! You don't know what the Scriptures teach. And you don't know anything about the power of God. 25 When God raises people to life, they won't marry. They will be like the angels in heaven. 26 t You surely know about people being raised to life. You know that in the story about Moses and the burning bush, God said, “I am the God worshiped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”t

27 He isn't the God of the dead, but of the living. You Sadducees are all wrong.

The Most Important //Commandment

(Matthew 22.34-40; Luke 10.25-28)

28  t One of the teachers of the Law of Moses came up while Jesus and the Sadducees were arguing. When he heard Jesus give a good answer, he asked him, “What is the most important commandment?”
29  t Jesus answered, “The most important one says: ‘People of Israel, you have only one Lord and God. 30 You must love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.’

31 t The second most important commandment says: ‘Love others as much as you love yourself.’ No other commandment is more important than these.”
32  t The man replied, “Teacher, you are certainly right to say there is only one God.

33 t It is also true that we must love God with all our heart, mind, and strength, and that we must love others as much as we love ourselves. These commandments are more important than all the sacrifices and offerings that we could possibly make.”

34 When Jesus saw that the man had given a sensible answer, he told him, “You are not far from God's kingdom.” After this, no one dared ask Jesus any more questions.

About David's Son

(Matthew 22.41-46; Luke 20.41-44)

35 As Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, “How can the teachers of the Law of Moses say the Messiah will come from the family of King David?

36 t The Holy Spirit led David to say,
‘The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit at my right sidet
until I make your enemies
into a footstool for you.’

37 If David called the Messiah his Lord, how can the Messiah be his son?”t
The large crowd enjoyed listening to Jesus teach.

Jesus Condemns the Pharisees //and the Teachers of the Law of Moses

(Matthew 23.1-36; Luke 20.45-47)

38 As Jesus was teaching, he said:
Guard against the teachers of the Law of Moses! They love to walk around in long robes and be greeted in the market. 39 They like the front seats in the synagogues and the best seats at banquets.

40 But they cheat widows out of their homes and pray long prayers just to show off. They will be punished most of all.

A Widow's Offering

(Luke 21.1-4)

41 Jesus was sitting in the temple near the offering box and watching people put in their gifts. He noticed that many rich people were giving a lot of money. 42 Finally, a poor widow came up and put in two coins worth only a few pennies.

43 Jesus told his disciples to gather around him. Then he said:
I tell you that this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 44 Everyone else gave what they didn't need. But she is very poor and gave everything she had. Now she doesn't have a cent to live on.
