씨 뿌리는 사람 비유

(마 13:1-9; 눅 8:4-8)

1  예수께서 다시 바닷가에서 가르치기 시작하셨다. 매우 큰 무리가 모여드니, 예수께서는 배에 오르셔서, 바다쪽에 앉으셨다. 무리는 모두 바닷가 뭍에 있었다. 2 예수께서 비유로 여러 가지를 가르치셨는데, 가르치시면서 그들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. 3 “잘 들어라. 씨를 뿌리는 사람이 씨를 뿌리러 나갔다. 4 그가 씨를 뿌리는데, 더러는 길가에 떨어지니, 새들이 와서 그것을 쪼아먹었다. 5 또 더러는 흙이 많지 않은 돌짝밭에 떨어지니, 흙이 깊지 않으므로 싹은 곧 나왔지만, 6 해가 뜨자 타버리고, 뿌리가 없어서 말라 버렸다. 7 또 더러는 가시덤불 속에 떨어지니, 가시덤불이 자라 그 기운을 막아 버려서, 열매를 맺지 못하였다. 8 그런데 더러는 좋은 땅에 떨어져서, 싹이 나고, 자라서, 열매를 맺었다. 그리하여 삼십 배, 육십 배, 백 배가 되었다.” 9 예수께서 덧붙여서 말씀하셨다. “들을 귀가 있는 사람은 들어라.”

비유로 말씀하신 목적

(마 13:10-17; 눅 8:9-10)

10  예수께서 혼자 계실 때에, 예수의 주위에 둘러 있는 사람들이, 열두 제자와 함께, 그 비유들이 무슨 뜻인지를 예수께 물었다. 11 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희에게는 하나님 나라의 비밀을 맡겨 주셨다. 그러나 저 바깥 사람들에게는 모든 것이 t수수께끼로 들린다. 12 그것은 t‘그들이 보기는 보아도 알지 못하고, 듣기는 들어도 깨닫지 못하게 하셔서, 그들이 돌아와서 용서를 받지 못하게 하시려는’ 것이다.”

씨 뿌리는 사람 비유의 설명

(마 13:18-23; 눅 8:11-15)

13 그리고 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희가 이 비유를 알아듣지 못하면서, 어떻게 모든 비유를 이해하겠느냐? 14 씨를 뿌리는 사람은 말씀을 뿌리는 것이다. 15 길가에 뿌려지는 것들이란 이런 사람들이다. 그들에게 말씀이 뿌려질 때에 그들이 말씀을 듣기는 하지만, 곧바로 사탄이 와서, 그들에게 뿌려진 그 말씀을 빼앗아 간다. 16 돌짝밭에 뿌려지는 것들이란 이런 사람들이다. 그들은 말씀을 들으면 곧 기쁘게 받아들이기는 하지만, 17 그들 속에 뿌리가 없어서 오래가지 못하고, 그 말씀 때문에 환난이나 박해가 일어나면 곧 걸려 넘어진다. 18 가시덤불 속에 뿌려지는 것들이란 달리 이런 사람들을 가리키는데, 그들은 말씀을 듣기는 하지만, 19 세상의 염려와 재물의 유혹과 그 밖에 다른 일의 욕심이 들어와 말씀을 막아서 열매를 맺지 못한다. 20 좋은 땅에 뿌려지는 것들이란 이런 사람들이다. 그들은 말씀을 듣고 받아들여서, 삼십 배, 육십 배, 백 배의 열매를 맺는다.”

등불은 등경 위에

(눅 8:16-18)

21  예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “사람이 등불을 가져다가 말 아래에나, 침상 아래에 두겠느냐? 등경 위에다가 두지 않겠느냐? 22 숨겨 둔 것은 드러나고, 감추어 둔 것은 나타나기 마련이다. 23 들을 귀가 있는 사람은 들어라.” 24  예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 새겨들어라. 너희가 되질하여 주는 만큼 너희에게 되질하여 주실 것이요, 덤으로 더 주실 것이다. 25 가진 사람은 더 받을 것이요, 가지지 못한 사람은 그 가진 것마저 빼앗길 것이다.”

스스로 자라는 씨 비유

26  예수께서 또 말씀하셨다. “하나님 나라는 이렇게 비유할 수 있다. 어떤 사람이 땅에 씨를 뿌려 놓고, 27 밤낮 자고 일어나고 하는 사이에 그 씨에서 싹이 나고 자라지만, 그 사람은 어떻게 그렇게 되는지를 알지 못한다. 28 땅이 저절로 열매를 맺게 하는데, 처음에는 싹을 내고, 그 다음에는 이삭을 내고, 또 그 다음에는 이삭에 알찬 낟알을 낸다. 29 열매가 익으면, 곧 낫을 댄다. 추수 때가 왔기 때문이다.”

겨자씨 비유

(마 13:31-32; 눅 13:18-19)

30  예수께서 또 말씀하셨다. “우리가 하나님의 나라를 어떻게 비길까? 또는 무슨 비유로 그것을 나타낼까? 31 t겨자씨와 같으니, 그것은 땅에 심을 때에는 세상에 있는 어떤 씨보다도 더 작다. 32 그러나 심고 나면 자라서, 어떤 풀보다 더 큰 가지들을 뻗어, 공중의 새들이 그 그늘에 깃들일 수 있게 된다.”

비유로 가르치시다

(마 13:34-35)

33  예수께서는, 그들이 알아들을 수 있는 정도로, 이와 같이 많은 비유로 말씀을 전하셨다. 34 비유가 아니면 말씀하지 않으셨으나, 제자들에게는 따로 모든 것을 설명해 주셨다.

풍랑을 잔잔하게 하시다

(마 8:23-27; 눅 8:22-25)

35 그 날 저녁이 되었을 때에, 예수께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “바다 저쪽으로 건너가자.” 36 그래서 그들은 무리를 남겨 두고, 예수를 배에 계신 그대로 모시고 갔는데, 다른 배들도 함께 따라갔다. 37 그런데 거센 바람이 일어나서, 파도가 배 안으로 덮쳐 들어오므로, 물이 배에 벌써 가득 찼다. 38 예수께서는 고물에서 베개를 베고 주무시고 계셨다. 제자들이 예수를 깨우며 말하였다. “선생님, 우리가 죽게 되었는데도, 아무렇지도 않으십니까?” 39 예수께서 일어나 바람을 꾸짖으시고, 바다더러 “고요하고, 잠잠하여라” 하고 말씀하시니, 바람이 그치고, 아주 고요해졌다. 40 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “왜들 무서워하느냐? 아직도 믿음이 없느냐?” 41 그들은 큰 두려움에 사로잡혀서 서로 말하였다. “이분이 누구이기에, 바람과 바다까지도 그에게 복종하는가?”

A Story about a Farmer

(Matthew 13.1-9; Luke 8.4-8)

1  t The next time Jesus taught beside Lake Galilee, a big crowd gathered. It was so large that he had to sit in a boat out on the lake, while the people stood on the shore.

2 He used stories to teach them many things, and this is part of what he taught:
3 Now listen! A farmer went out to scatter seed in a field. 4 While the farmer was scattering the seed, some of it fell along the road and was eaten by birds. 5 Other seeds fell on thin, rocky ground and quickly started growing because the soil wasn't very deep. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched and dried up, because they did not have deep roots. 7 Some other seeds fell where thornbushes grew up and choked out the plants. So they did not produce any grain.

8 But a few seeds did fall on good ground where the plants grew and produced 30 or 60 or even 100 times as much as was scattered.

9 Then Jesus said, “If you have ears, pay attention.”

Why Jesus Used Stories

(Matthew 13.10-17; Luke 8.9,10)

10 When Jesus was alone with the twelve apostles and some others, they asked him about these stories.

11 He answered:
I have explained the secret about God's kingdom to you, but for others I can use only stories.

12 t The reason is,
“These people will look
and look, but never see.
They will listen and listen,
but never understand.
If they did,
they would turn to God
and be forgiven.”

Jesus Explains the Story //about the Farmer

(Matthew 13.18-23; Luke 8.11-15)

13 Jesus then told them:
If you don't understand this story, you won't understand any others. 14 What the farmer is spreading is really the message about the kingdom. 15 The seeds that fell along the road are the people who hear the message. But Satan soon comes and snatches it away from them. 16 The seeds that fell on rocky ground are the people who gladly hear the message and accept it at once.

17 But they don't have roots, and they don't last very long. As soon as life gets hard or the message gets them in trouble, they give up.
18 The seeds that fell among the thornbushes are also people who hear the message. 19 But they start worrying about the needs of this life. They are fooled by the desire to get rich and to have all kinds of other things. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.

20 The seeds that fell on good ground are the people who hear and welcome the message. They produce 30 or 60 or even 100 times as much as was planted.

Light

(Luke 8.16-18)

21  t Jesus also said:
You don't light a lamp and put it under a clay pot or under a bed. Don't you put a lamp on a lampstand? 22 t There is nothing hidden that will not be made public. There is no secret that will not be well known.

23 If you have ears, pay attention!
24  t Listen carefully to what you hear! The way you treat others will be the way you will be treated—and even worse.

25 t Everyone who has something will be given more. But people who don't have anything will lose what little they have.

Another Story about Seeds

26 Again Jesus said:
God's kingdom is like what happens when a farmer scatters seed in a field. 27 The farmer sleeps at night and is up and around during the day. Yet the seeds keep sprouting and growing, and he doesn't understand how. 28 It is the ground that makes the seeds sprout and grow into plants that produce grain.

29 t Then when harvest season comes and the grain is ripe, the farmer cuts it with a sickle.t

A Mustard Seed

(Matthew 13.31,32; Luke 13.18,19)

30 Finally, Jesus said:
What is God's kingdom like? What story can I use to explain it? 31 It is like what happens when a mustard seed is planted in the ground. It is the smallest seed in all the world.

32 But once it is planted, it grows larger than any garden plant. It even puts out branches that are big enough for birds to nest in its shade.

The Reason for Teaching //with Stories

(Matthew 13.34,35)

33 Jesus used many other stories when he spoke to the people, and he taught them as much as they could understand.

34 He did not tell them anything without using stories. But when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them.

A Storm

(Matthew 8.23-27; Luke 8.22-25)

35 That evening, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let's cross to the east side.” 36 So they left the crowd, and his disciples started across the lake with him in the boat. Some other boats followed along.

37 Suddenly a storm struck the lake. Waves started splashing into the boat, and it was about to sink.

38 Jesus was in the back of the boat with his head on a pillow, and he was asleep. His disciples woke him and said, “Teacher, don't you care that we're about to drown?”

39 Jesus got up and ordered the wind and the waves to be quiet. The wind stopped, and everything was calm.

40 Jesus asked his disciples, “Why were you afraid? Don't you have any faith?”
41 Now they were more afraid than ever and said to each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
