6 Jišaj pak zplodil krále Davida.
David zplodil Šalomouna z manželky Uriášovy, 7 Šalomoun zplodil Rechoboáma, Rechoboám zplodil Abiáše, Abiáš zplodil Asu, 8 Asa zplodil Jošafata, Jošafat zplodil Jehorama, Jehoram zplodil Uziáše, 9 Uziáš zplodil Jotama, Jotam zplodil Achaze, Achaz zplodil Ezechiáše, 10 Ezechiáš zplodil Menašeho, Menaše zplodil Amona, Amon zplodil Jošiáše, 11 Jošiáš zplodil Jekoniáše a jeho bratry a pak přišlo babylonské zajetí.
12 Po odvlečení do Babylonu Jekoniáš zplodil Šealtiela, Šealtiel zplodil Zerubábela, 13 Zerubábel zplodil Abihuda, Abihud zplodil Eliakima, Eliakim zplodil Azora, 14 Azor zplodil Sádoka, Sádok zplodil Achima, Achim zplodil Eliuda, 15 Eliud zplodil Eleazara, Eleazar zplodil Matana, Matan zplodil Jákoba 16 a Jákob zplodil Josefa, muže Marie, z níž se narodil Ježíš zvaný Kristus.
17 Celkem tedy bylo čtrnáct pokolení od Abrahama po Davida, čtrnáct pokolení od Davida po babylonské zajetí a čtrnáct pokolení od babylonského zajetí po Krista.
Bůh je s námi
18 Narození Ježíše Krista se událo takto: Jeho matka Marie byla zasnoubena Josefovi, ale předtím, než se vzali, se ukázalo, že je těhotná z Ducha svatého. 19 Její muž Josef byl spravedlivý, a protože ji nechtěl veřejně zostudit, rozhodl se, že se s ní rozejde v tichosti. 20 Když však o tom přemýšlel, hle, ve snu se mu ukázal Hospodinův anděl a řekl: „Josefe, synu Davidův, neboj se vzít si Marii za manželku, neboť to, co v ní bylo počato, je z Ducha svatého. 21 Porodí syna a dáš mu jméno Ježíš, neboť on zachrání svůj lid od jejich hříchů.“
22 To vše se stalo, aby se naplnilo, co Hospodin řekl ústy proroka: 23 „Hle, panna počne a porodí syna a dají mu jméno Immanuel,“ což se překládá: Bůh je s námi.
24 Když se Josef probudil, zachoval se, jak mu přikázal Hospodinův anděl, a vzal si Marii za manželku. 25 Nespal s ní ale až do doby, kdy porodila syna, jemuž dal jméno Ježíš.

1 This is the record of the genealogyt of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham was the fathert of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah (by Tamar), Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram,4 Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,5 Salmon the father of Boaz (by Rahab), Boaz the father of Obed (by Ruth), Obed the father of Jesse,
6 and Jesse the father of David the king.
David was the father of Solomon (by the wife of Uriahs),7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,s8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, Joram the father of Uzziah,9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon,s Amon the father of Josiah,
11 and Josiahs the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
12 Aftert the deportation to Babylon, Jeconiah became the father of Shealtiel,s Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,14 Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Achim, Achim the father of Eliud,15 Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,
16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, by whomsss Jesus was born, who is called Christ.ts
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to Christ,ts fourteen generations.
The Birth of Jesus Christ
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together,t she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.19 Because Joseph, her husband to be,t was a righteous man, and because he did not want to disgrace her, he intended to divorce herts privately.20 When he had contemplated this, ant angel of the Lordt appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.21 She will give birth to a son and you will name himt Jesus,s because he will save his people from their sins.”22 This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled:23 “Look! The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call himtEmmanuel,”s which meanst “God with us.”s24 When Joseph awoke from sleep he did what the angel of the Lordt told him. He took his wife,
25 but did not have marital relationst with her until she gave birth to a son, whom he namedt Jesus.
