Ježíš, Mojžíš a Eliáš
1 Po šesti dnech Ježíš k sobě vzal Petra, Jakuba a jeho bratra Jana, vyvedl je o samotě na vysokou horu 2 a proměnil se před nimi. Jeho tvář zazářila jako slunce a jeho šaty zbělely jako světlo. 3 A hle, uviděli Mojžíše a Eliáše, jak s ním rozmlouvají.
4 Petr na to Ježíšovi řekl: „Pane, dobře, že jsme tu! Jestli chceš, uděláme tu tři stánky – jeden tobě, jeden Mojžíšovi a jeden Eliášovi.“
5 Než to dořekl, náhle je zahalil zářící oblak. Vtom se z oblaku ozval hlas: „Toto je můj milovaný Syn, kterého jsem si oblíbil. Jeho poslouchejte.“
6 Když to učedníci uslyšeli, padli na tvář a hrozně se báli. 7 Ježíš přistoupil a dotkl se jich se slovy: „Vstaňte, nebojte se.“ 8 A když zvedli oči, neviděli už nikoho než samotného Ježíše.
9 Cestou zpět z hory jim Ježíš přikázal: „Nikomu o tom vidění neříkejte, dokud Syn člověka nevstane z mrtvých.“
10 Učedníci se ho zeptali: „Proč tedy znalci Písma říkají, že nejdříve musí přijít Eliáš?“
11 „Jistě, ‚přijde Eliáš a všechno napraví.‘“ odpověděl Ježíš. 12 „Já vám však říkám, že Eliáš už přišel, ale oni ho nepoznali a udělali s ním, co chtěli. Totéž od nich vytrpí i Syn člověka.“ 13 Tehdy učedníci pochopili, že jim to řekl o Janu Křtiteli.
Víra přenáší hory
14 A když přišli k zástupu, přistoupil k němu jeden člověk, padl před ním na kolena 15 a řekl: „Pane, smiluj se nad mým synem. Má padoucnici a hrozně tím trpí. Často padá do ohně anebo do vody. 16 Přivedl jsem ho ke tvým učedníkům, ale nemohli ho uzdravit.“
17 „Vy nevěřící a zvrácené pokolení!“ zvolal Ježíš. „Jak dlouho ještě budu s vámi? Jak dlouho vás budu snášet? Přiveďte mi ho sem.“ 18 Ježíš pak tomu démonovi pohrozil a on vyšel a chlapec byl v tu chvíli uzdraven.
19 Učedníci později přišli za Ježíšem a v soukromí se ho zeptali: „Proč jsme ho my nemohli vyhnat?“
20-21 „Kvůli své malověrnosti,“ odpověděl jim. „Amen, říkám vám, budete-li mít víru jako zrnko hořčice, řeknete téhle hoře: ‚Přejdi odsud tam,‘ a ona přejde a nic pro vás nebude nemožné.“
Synové jsou svobodní
22 Ještě když se zdržovali v Galileji, Ježíš jim řekl: „Syn člověka bude vydán do lidských rukou. 23 Zabijí ho, ale třetího dne bude vzkříšen.“ Učedníci z toho byli zdrceni.
24 Jakmile přišli do Kafarnaum, přistoupili k Petrovi výběrčí chrámové daně. „Váš učitel neplatí daně?“ ptali se.
25 „Ale ano,“ odpověděl Petr.
Když pak přišel domů, Ježíš ho předešel otázkou: „Co myslíš, Šimone, od koho vybírají pozemští králové daně a poplatky? Od vlastních synů, anebo od cizích?“
26 „Od cizích,“ odpověděl Petr.
„Synové jsou tedy svobodní!“ řekl mu Ježíš. 27 „Ale abychom je neurazili, jdi k jezeru a nahoď udici. V ústech první chycené ryby najdeš peníz. Ten vezmi a dej jim ho za mě i za sebe.“
Matthew 17
The Transfiguration
1 Six days latert Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James,t and led them privately up a high mountain.2 And he was transfigured before them.s Hist face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.3 Then Mosest and Elijahs also appeared before them, talking with him.4 Sot Peter saidt to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, I will makes three sheltersts – one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”5 While he was still speaking, at bright clouds overshadowedt them, and a voice from the cloud said,t “This is my one dear Son,t in whom I take great delight. Listen to him!”s6 When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground.t7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Do not be afraid.”
8 Whent they looked up, all they saw was Jesus alone.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them,t “Do not tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”10 The disciples asked him,t “Why then do the experts in the lawt say that Elijah must come first?”11 Het answered, “Elijah does indeed come first and will restore all things.12 And I tell you that Elijah has already come. Yet they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. Int the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.”
13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.
The Disciples’ Failure to Heal
14 Whent they came to the crowd, a man came to him, knelt before him,15 and said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, because he has seizurest and suffers terribly, for he often falls into the fire and into the water.16 I brought him to your disciples, butt they were not able to heal him.”17 Jesus answered,t “Yout unbelievingts and perverse generation! How much longert must I be with you? How much longer must I enduret you?s Bring him here to me.”18 Thent Jesus rebukedt the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that moment.19 Then the disciples camet to Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”
20 He told them, “It was because of your little faith. I tell you the truth,t if you have faith the size oft a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; nothingt will be impossible for you.”ss
Second Prediction of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection
22 Whent they gathered together in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.t
23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised.” And they became greatly distressed.
The Temple Tax
24 Aftert they arrived in Capernaum,s the collectors of the temple taxts came to Peter and said, “Your teacher pays the double drachma tax, doesn’t he?”25 He said, “Yes.” When Peter came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first,t “What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly kings collect tolls or taxes – from their sonss or from foreigners?”26 After he said, “From foreigners,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sonss are free.
27 But so that we don’t offend them, go to the lake and throw out a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth, you will find a four drachma coin.s Take that and give it to them for me and you.”
