El más importante en el reino

1  Por ese tiempo, los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús y le preguntaron:
—¿Quién es el más importante en el reino del cielo?

2 Jesús llamó a un niño pequeño y lo puso en medio de ellos.

3 Entonces dijo:
—Les digo la verdad, a menos que se aparten de sus pecados y se vuelvan como niños, nunca entrarán en el reino del cielo. 4 Así que el que se vuelva tan humilde como este pequeño, es el más importante en el reino del cielo.

5 »Todo el que recibe de mi partet a un niño pequeño como éste, me recibe a mí; 6 pero si hacen que uno de estos pequeños que confía en mí caiga en pecado, sería mejor para ustedes que se aten una gran piedra de molino alrededor del cuello y se ahoguen en las profundidades del mar.

7 »¡Qué aflicción le espera al mundo, porque tienta a la gente a pecar! Las tentaciones son inevitables, ¡pero qué aflicción le espera al que provoca la tentación! 8 Por lo tanto, si tu mano o tu pie te hace pecar, córtatelo y tíralo. Es preferible entrar en la vida eterna con una sola mano o un solo pie que ser arrojado al fuego eterno con las dos manos y los dos pies. 9 Y si tu ojo te hace pecar, sácatelo y tíralo. Es preferible entrar en la vida eterna con un solo ojo que tener los dos ojos y ser arrojado al fuego del infierno.t

10 »Cuidado con despreciar a cualquiera de estos pequeños. Les digo que, en el cielo, sus ángeles siempre están en la presencia de mi Padre celestial.t

Parábola de la oveja perdida

12 »Si un hombre tiene cien ovejas y una de ellas se extravía, ¿qué hará? ¿No dejará las otras noventa y nueve en las colinas y saldrá a buscar la perdida? 13 Si la encuentra, les digo la verdad, se alegrará más por esa que por las noventa y nueve que no se extraviaron. 14 De la misma manera, no es la voluntad de mi Padre celestial que ni siquiera uno de estos pequeñitos perezca.

Cómo corregir a otro creyente

15 »Si un creyentet peca contra ti,t háblale en privado y hazle ver su falta. Si te escucha y confiesa el pecado, has recuperado a esa persona; 16 pero si no te hace caso, toma a uno o dos más contigo y vuelve a hablarle, para que los dos o tres testigos puedan confirmar todo lo que digas. 17 Si aun así la persona se niega a escuchar, lleva el caso ante la iglesia. Luego, si la persona no acepta la decisión de la iglesia, trata a esa persona como a un pagano o como a un corrupto cobrador de impuestos.

18 »Les digo la verdad, todo lo que prohíbant en la tierra será prohibido en el cielo, y todo lo que permitant en la tierra será permitido en el cielo.

19 »También les digo lo siguiente: si dos de ustedes se ponen de acuerdo aquí en la tierra con respecto a cualquier cosa que pidan, mi Padre que está en el cielo lo hará. 20 Pues donde se reúnen dos o tres en mi nombre, yo estoy allí entre ellos.

Parábola del deudor que no perdona

21 Luego Pedro se le acercó y preguntó:
—Señor, ¿cuántas veces debo perdonar a alguient que peca contra mí? ¿Siete veces?

22 —No siete veces —respondió Jesús—, sino setenta veces siete.t

23 »Por lo tanto, el reino del cielo se puede comparar a un rey que decidió poner al día las cuentas con los siervos que le habían pedido prestado dinero. 24 En el proceso, le trajeron a uno de sus deudores que le debía millones de monedas de plata.t 25 No podía pagar, así que su amo ordenó que lo vendieran —junto con su esposa, sus hijos y todo lo que poseía— para pagar la deuda.

26 »El hombre cayó de rodillas ante su amo y le suplicó: “Por favor, tenme paciencia y te lo pagaré todo”. 27 Entonces el amo sintió mucha lástima por él, y lo liberó y le perdonó la deuda.

28 »Pero cuando el hombre salió de la presencia del rey, fue a buscar a un compañero, también siervo, que le debía unos pocos miles de monedas de plata.t Lo tomó del cuello y le exigió que le pagara de inmediato.

29 »El compañero cayó de rodillas ante él y le rogó que le diera un poco más de tiempo. “Ten paciencia conmigo, y yo te pagaré”, le suplicó. 30 Pero el acreedor no estaba dispuesto a esperar. Hizo arrestar al hombre y lo puso en prisión hasta que pagara toda la deuda.

31 »Cuando algunos de los otros siervos vieron eso, se disgustaron mucho. Fueron ante el rey y le contaron todo lo que había sucedido. 32 Entonces el rey llamó al hombre al que había perdonado y le dijo: “¡Siervo malvado! Te perdoné esa tremenda deuda porque me lo rogaste. 33 ¿No deberías haber tenido compasión de tu compañero así como yo tuve compasión de ti?”. 34 Entonces el rey, enojado, envió al hombre a la prisión para que lo torturaran hasta que pagara toda la deuda.

35 »Eso es lo que les hará mi Padre celestial a ustedes si se niegan a perdonar de corazón a sus hermanos.

MATTHEW 18

Who Is the Greatest?

(Mark 9.33-37; Luke 9.46-48)

1  t About this time the disciples came to Jesus and asked him who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 2 Jesus called for a child to come over and stand near him.

3 t Then he said:
I promise you this. If you don't change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. 4 But if you are as humble as this child, you are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 And when you welcome one of these children because of me, you welcome me.

Temptations To Sin

(Mark 9.42-48; Luke 17.1,2)

7 The world is in for trouble because of the way it causes people to sin. There will always be something to cause people to sin, but anyone who does this will be in for trouble.
8  t If your hand or foot causes you to sin, chop it off and throw it away! You would be better off to go into life paralyzed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the fire that never goes out.

9 t If your eye causes you to sin, poke it out and get rid of it. You would be better off to go into life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fires of hell.

The Lost Sheep

(Luke 15.3-7)

14 That's how it is with your Father in heaven. He doesn't want any of these little ones to be lost.

When Someone Sins

(Luke 17.3)

17 If the follower refuses to listen to them, report the matter to the church. Anyone who refuses to listen to the church must be treated like an unbeliever or a tax collector.t

Allowing and Not Allowing

20 Whenever two or three of you come together in my name, t I am there with you.

An Official //Who Refused To Forgive

21  t Peter came up to the Lord and asked, “How many times should I forgive someonet who does something wrong to me? Is seven times enough?”

22  t Jesus answered:
Not just 7 times, but 77 times!t

23 This story will show you what the kingdom of heaven is like:
One day a king decided to call in his officials and ask them to give an account of what they owed him. 24 As he was doing this, one official was brought in who owed him 50,000,000 silver coins.

25 But he didn't have any money to pay what he owed. The king ordered him to be sold, along with his wife and children and all he owned, in order to pay the debt.
26 The official got down on his knees and began begging, “Have pity on me, and I will pay you every cent I owe!”

27 The king felt sorry for him and let him go free. He even told the official that he did not have to pay back the money.

28 But as this official was leaving, he happened to meet another official, who owed him 100 silver coins. So he grabbed the man by the throat. He started choking him and said, “Pay me what you owe!”
29 The man got down on his knees and began begging, “Have pity on me, and I will pay you back.”

30 But the first official refused to have pity. Instead, he went and had the other official put in jail until he could pay what he owed.
31 When some other officials found out what had happened, they felt sorry for the man who had been put in jail. Then they told the king what had happened. 32 The king called the first official back in and said, “You're an evil man! When you begged for mercy, I said you did not have to pay back a cent. 33 Don't you think you should show pity to someone else, as I did to you?” 34 The king was so angry that he ordered the official to be tortured until he could pay back everything he owed. 35 That is how my Father in heaven will treat you, if you don't forgive each of my followers with all your heart.
