Matei 21

Intrarea triumfală în Ierusalim

1 Când s-au apropiat de Ierusalim și au ajuns la Betfaghe, lângă Muntele Măslinilor, Isus a trimis doi ucenici,2 spunându-le: „Duceți-vă în satul dinaintea voastră și imediat ce intrați în el veți găsi o măgăriță legată și un măgăruș împreună cu ea. Dezlegați-i și aduceți-i la Mine!3 Dacă vă va zice cineva ceva, să-i spuneți că Domnul are nevoie de ei. Și imediat îi va trimite“.4 Acest lucru s-a întâmplat ca să se împlinească ceea ce a fost spus prin profetul care zice:

5 „Spuneți-i fiicei Sionului:
«Iată că Împăratul tău vine la tine,
smerit și călare pe un măgar,
pe un măgăruș, pe mânzul unei măgărițe!»“t

6 Ucenicii s-au dus și au făcut așa cum le poruncise Isus.7 Au adus măgărița și măgărușul, și-au pus hainele peste ei, iar Isus S-a așezat deasupra lor.8 O mare mulțime de oameni își așterneau hainele pe drumt, iar alții tăiau ramuri din copaci și le presărau pe drum.

9 Mulțimile care mergeau înaintea lui Isus și cele care-L urmau strigau:
„ Osana t, Fiul lui David!
Binecuvântat este Cel Ce vine în Numele Domnului!t
Osana în locurile preaînalte!“

10 Când a intrat în Ierusalim, toți cei din cetate au început să se agite și să întrebe:
– Cine este Acesta?

11 Mulțimile răspundeau:
– Acesta este Profetul Isus din Nazaretul Galileii!

Isus alungă negustorii din Templu

12 Isus a intrat în Templut și i-a scos afară pe toți cei ce vindeau și cumpărau în Templu. A răsturnat mesele schimbătorilor de bani și scaunele celor ce vindeau porumbei

13 și le-a zis: „Este scris:
«Casa Mea va fi numită
o casă de rugăciune»t,

dar voi ați făcut din ea o peșteră de tâlhari!“t

14 Au venit la El în Templu niște orbi și șchiopi, iar El i-a vindecat.15 Dar conducătorii preoților și cărturarii, când au văzut lucrurile minunate, pe care le făcea, și pe copiii care strigau în Templu: „ Osana , Fiul lui David!“, au fost indignați

16 și I-au zis:
– Auzi ce spun aceștia?
Isus le-a răspuns:
– Da! N-ați citit niciodată acolo unde scrie că :
„Din gura copiilor și a celor ce sunt alăptați
Ți-ai scos laudă!“t?

17 Și, lăsându-i, a ieșit din cetate, S-a îndreptat spre Betania și a înnoptat acolo.

Blestemarea smochinului neroditor. Puterea rugăciunii.

18 Dimineața, în timp ce se întorcea în cetate, lui Isus I s-a făcut foame.19 A văzut un smochin lângă drum și S-a dus spre el, dar n-a găsit în el decât frunze. Atunci i-a zis: „În veac să nu mai iasă rod din tine!“ Și deodată smochinul s-a uscat.

20 Ucenicii s-au mirat când au văzut acest lucru și L-au întrebat:
– Cum de s-a uscat smochinul așa deodată?

21 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Adevărat vă spun că, dacă ați avea credință și nu v-ați îndoi, ați face nu numai ceea ce am făcut Eu smochinului, ci, chiar dacă ați zice acestui munte: „Ridică-te și aruncă-te în mare!“, s-ar întâmpla întocmai !22 Toate lucrurile pe care le cereți cu credință în rugăciune, le veți primi.

Autoritatea lui Isus

23 A intrat apoi în Templu. În timp ce dădea învățătură, au venit la El conducătorii preoților și bătrânii poporului și L-au întrebat:
– Cu ce autoritate faci aceste lucruri? Și cine Ți-a dat această autoritate?

24 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Vă voi pune și Eu o întrebare, iar dacă Îmi veți răspunde la ea, vă voi spune și Eu cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri.

25 Botezul lui Ioan de unde era? Din cer sau de la oameni?
Ei au început să vorbească între ei și să zică: „Dacă vom răspunde: «Din cer!», ne va întreba: «Atunci de ce nu l-ați crezut?»,26 iar dacă vom răspunde: «De la oameni!», ne temem de mulțime, fiindcă toți l-au considerat pe Ioan un profet“.

27 Așa că I-au răspuns lui Isus:
– Nu știm!
Atunci și El le-a zis:
– Nici Eu nu vă spun cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri.

Pilda celor doi fii

28 Ce părere aveți? Un om avea doi fii. S-a dus la primul și i-a zis:
– Fiule, du-te și lucrează astăzi în vie!

29 Dar el i-a răspuns:
– Nu vreau.
Mai târziu însă i-a părut rău și s-a dus.
30  Omul s-a dus și la celălalt și i-a spus același lucru. Acesta i-a răspuns: „Da, stăpâne!“, dar nu s-a dus.

31 Care dintre cei doi a făcut voia tatălui?
– Primul! I-au răspuns ei.t
Isus le-a zis:
– Adevărat vă spun că până și colectorii de taxe și prostituatele merg înaintea voastră în Împărăția lui Dumnezeu!32 Căci a venit Ioan la voi umblând pe calea dreptății și nu l-ați crezut! Dar colectorii de taxe și prostituatele l-au crezut. Și măcar că ați văzut acest lucru, nu v-a părut rău la urmă, ca să-l credeți!

Pilda viticultorilor

33 Ascultați o altă pildă:
Era un om, proprietar de pământ, care a plantat o vie. A împrejmuit-o cu un gard, a săpat un teasc în ea și a construit un turn de pază.t Apoi a arendat-o unor viticultori și a plecat într-o călătorie.34 Când s-a apropiat vremea roadelor, i-a trimis pe sclavii săi la viticultori, ca să-i ia partea cuvenită din roade.

35 Viticultorii însă i-au apucat pe sclavii lui și pe unul l-au bătut, pe altul l-au omorât, iar pe altul l-au ucis cu pietre.36 A trimis din nou alți sclavi, mai mulți decât primii, dar și cu aceștia au făcut la fel.37 La urmă l-a trimis la ei pe fiul său, spunându-și: „Pe fiul meu îl vor respecta!“

38 Dar viticultorii, când l-au văzut pe fiul, și-au zis între ei: „Acesta este moștenitorul! Haideți să-l omorâm și să-i luăm moștenirea!“39 Și l-au apucat, l-au scos afară din vie și l-au omorât.

40 Așadar, când va veni stăpânul viei, ce le va face el acelor viticultori?

41 Ei au răspuns:
– Pe ticăloșii aceia îi va nimici printr-o moarte groaznică, iar via le-o va arenda altor viticultori, care la vremea potrivită îi vor da partea cuvenită din roade.

42 Isus i-a întrebat:
– N-ați citit niciodată în Scripturi că:
„Piatra pe care au respins-o zidarii
a devenit piatra din capul unghiului.
Domnul a făcut acest lucru
și este minunat în ochii noștri!“t?

43 De aceea vă spun că Împărăția lui Dumnezeu va fi luată de la voi și-i va fi dată unui neam care va aduce roadele cuvenite .44 Cel ce cade peste această piatră va fi sfărâmat în bucăți, iar pe acela peste care cade ea, îl va zdrobi.t

45 Când conducătorii preoților și fariseii au auzit pildele Lui, au înțeles că Isus vorbește despre ei.46 Ei au căutat să-L prindă, dar le-a fost frică de mulțimi, pentru că acestea Îl considerau profet.

MATTHEW 21

Jesus Enters Jerusalem

(Mark 11.1-11; Luke 19.28-38; John 12.12-19)

1 When Jesus and his disciples came near Jerusalem, he went to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives and sent two of them on ahead. 2 He told them, “Go into the next village, where you will at once find a donkey and her colt. Untie the two donkeys and bring them to me.

3 If anyone asks why you are doing this, just say, ‘The Lordt needs them.’ He will at once let you have the donkeys.”

4 So God's promise came true, just as the prophet had said,

5  t “Announce to the people
of Jerusalem:
‘Your king is coming to you!
He is humble
and rides on a donkey.
He comes on the colt
of a donkey.’ ”
6 The disciples left and did what Jesus had told them to do.

7 They brought the donkey and its colt and laid some clothes on their backs. Then Jesus got on.
8 Many people spread clothes in the road, while others put down branchest which they had cut from trees.

9 t Some people walked ahead of Jesus and others followed behind. They were all shouting,
“Hoorayt for the Son of David!t
God bless the one who comes
in the name of the Lord.
Hooray for God
in heaven above!”

10 When Jesus came to Jerusalem, everyone in the city was excited and asked, “Who can this be?”

11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Jesus in the Temple

(Mark 11.15-19; Luke 19.45-48; John 2.13-22)

13 t He told them, “The Scriptures say, ‘My house should be called a place of worship.’ But you have turned it into a place where robbers hide.”
14 Blind and lame people came to Jesus in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But the chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses were angry when they saw his miracles and heard the children shouting praises to the Son of David.t

16 t The men said to Jesus, “Don't you hear what those children are saying?”
“Yes, I do!” Jesus answered. “Don't you know that the Scriptures say, ‘Children and infants will sing praises’?”

17 Then Jesus left the city and went out to the village of Bethany, where he spent the night.

Jesus Puts a Curse //on a Fig Tree

(Mark 11.12-14,20-24)

19 and along the way he saw a fig tree. But when he came to it, he found only leaves and no figs. So he told the tree, “You will never again grow any fruit!” Right then the fig tree dried up.
20 The disciples were shocked when they saw how quickly the tree had dried up. 21 t But Jesus said to them, “If you have faith and don't doubt, I promise you can do what I did to this tree. And you will be able to do even more. You can tell this mountain to get up and jump into the sea, and it will.

22 If you have faith when you pray, you will be given whatever you ask for.”

A Question //about Jesus' Authority

(Mark 11.27-33; Luke 20.1-8)

23 Jesus had gone into the temple and was teaching when the chief priests and the leaders of the people came up to him. They asked, “What right do you have to do these things? Who gave you this authority?”
24 Jesus answered, “I have just one question to ask you. If you answer it, I will tell you where I got the right to do these things.

25 Who gave John the right to baptize? Was it God in heaven or merely some human being?”
They thought it over and said to each other, “We can't say God gave John this right. Jesus will ask us why we didn't believe John. 26 On the other hand, these people think John was a prophet, and we are afraid of what they might do to us. That's why we can't say it was merely some human who gave John the right to baptize.”

27 So they told Jesus, “We don't know.”
Jesus said, “Then I won't tell you who gave me the right to do what I do.”

A Story about Two Sons

28 Jesus said:
I will tell you a story about a man who had two sons. Then you can tell me what you think. The father went to the older son and said, “Go work in the vineyard today!” 29 His son told him he would not do it, but later he changed his mind and went. 30 The man then told his younger son to go work in the vineyard. The boy said he would, but he didn't go.

31 Which one of the sons obeyed his father?
“The older one,” the chief priests and leaders answered.
Then Jesus told them:
You can be sure tax collectorst and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you ever will!

32 t When John the Baptist showed you how to do right, you would not believe him. But these evil people did believe. And even when you saw what they did, you still would not change your minds and believe.

Renters of a Vineyard

(Mark 12.1-12; Luke 20.9-19)

33  t Jesus told the chief priests and leaders to listen to this story:
A land owner once planted a vineyard. He built a wall around it and dug a pit to crush the grapes in. He also built a lookout tower. Then he rented out his vineyard and left the country.
34 When it was harvest time, the owner sent some servants to get his share of the grapes. 35 But the renters grabbed those servants. They beat up one, killed one, and stoned one of them to death.

36 He then sent more servants than he did the first time. But the renters treated them in the same way.
37 Finally, the owner sent his own son to the renters, because he thought they would respect him. 38 But when they saw the man's son, they said, “Someday he will own the vineyard. Let's kill him! Then we can have it all for ourselves.”

39 So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

40 Jesus asked, “When the owner of that vineyard comes, what do you suppose he will do to those renters?”

41 The chief priests and leaders answered, “He will kill them in some horrible way. Then he will rent out his vineyard to people who will give him his share of grapes at harvest time.”

42  t Jesus replied, “You surely know that the Scriptures say,
‘The stone the builders
tossed aside
is now the most important
stone of all.
This is something
the Lord has done,
and it is amazing to us.’
43 I tell you God's kingdom will be taken from you and given to people who will do what he demands.

44 Anyone who stumbles over this stone will be crushed, and anyone it falls on will be smashed to pieces.”t
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard these stories, they knew Jesus was talking about them. 46 So they looked for a way to arrest Jesus. But they were afraid to, because the people thought he was a prophet.
