Matthew 21

Entrée triomphale de Jésus à Jérusalem

1 Lorsqu'ils approchèrent de Jérusalem et qu'ils furent arrivés à Bethphagé, vers le mont des Oliviers, Jésus envoya deux disciples2 en leur disant: «Allez au village qui est devant vous; vous y trouverez tout de suite une ânesse attachée et un ânon avec elle; détachez-les et amenez-les-moi.

3 Si quelqu'un vous dit quelque chose, vous répondrez: 'Le Seigneur en a besoin.' Et à l'instant il les laissera aller.»
4 Or [tout] ceci arriva afin que s'accomplisse ce que le prophète avait annoncé:

5 Dites à la fille de Sion: 'Voici ton roi qui vient à toi, plein de douceur et monté sur un âne, sur un ânon, le petit d'une ânesse.'t
6 Les disciples allèrent faire ce que Jésus leur avait ordonné.7 Ils amenèrent l'ânesse et l'ânon, mirent leurs vêtements sur eux, et Jésus s'assit dessus.8 Une grande foule de gens étendirent leurs vêtements sur le chemin; d'autres coupèrent des branches aux arbres et en jonchèrent la route.

9 Ceux qui précédaient et ceux qui suivaient Jésus criaient: «Hosannat au Fils de Davidt! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur!t Hosanna dans les lieux très hauts!»
10 Lorsqu'il entra dans Jérusalem, toute la ville fut troublée. On disait: «Qui est cet homme?»

11 La foule répondait: «C'est Jésus, le prophète de Nazareth en Galilée.»

Jésus dans le temple

12 Jésus entra dans le temple [de Dieu]. Il chassa tous ceux qui vendaient et qui achetaient dans le temple, et il renversa les tables des changeurs de monnaie et les sièges des vendeurs de pigeons.

13 Il leur dit: «Il est écrit: Mon temple sera appelé une maison de prièret, mais vous, vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurst.»
14 Des aveugles et des boiteux s'approchèrent de lui dans le temple, et il les guérit.15 Mais les chefs des prêtres et les spécialistes de la loi furent indignés à la vue des choses merveilleuses qu'il avait faites et des enfants qui criaient dans le temple: «Hosanna au Fils de David!»16 Ils lui dirent: «Entends-tu ce qu'ils disent?» «Oui, leur répondit Jésus. N'avez-vous jamais lu ces paroles: Tu as tiré des louanges de la bouche des enfants et des nourrissonst ?»

17 Puis il les laissa et sortit de la ville pour aller à Béthanie où il passa la nuit.
18 Le lendemain matin, en retournant à la ville, il eut faim.19 Il vit un figuier sur le bord du chemin et s'en approcha, mais il n'y trouva que des feuilles. Il lui dit: «Que jamais plus tu ne portes de fruit!» Le figuier sécha immédiatement.20 Voyant cela, les disciples furent étonnés et dirent: «Comment ce figuier a-t-il pu devenir immédiatement sec?»21 Jésus leur dit alors: «Je vous le dis en vérité, si vous avez de la foi et que vous ne doutez pas, non seulement vous ferez ce qui a été fait à ce figuier, mais même si vous dites à cette montagne: 'Retire-toi de là et jette-toi dans la mer', cela arrivera.

22 Tout ce que vous demanderez avec foi par la prière, vous le recevrez.»
23 Jésus se rendit dans le temple et, pendant qu'il enseignait, les chefs des prêtres et les anciens du peuple vinrent lui dire: «Par quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses, et qui t'a donné cette autorité?»24 Jésus leur répondit: «Je vous poserai moi aussi une question et, si vous m'y répondez, je vous dirai par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.25 Le baptême de Jean, d'où venait-il? Du ciel ou des hommes?» Mais ils raisonnèrent ainsi entre eux: «Si nous répondons: 'Du ciel', il nous dira: 'Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas cru en lui?'26 Et si nous répondons: 'Des hommes', nous avons à redouter les réactions de la foule, car tous considèrent Jean comme un prophète.»

27 Alors ils répondirent à Jésus: «Nous ne savons pas.» Il leur dit à son tour: «Moi non plus, je ne vous dirai pas par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.

Parabole des deux fils

28 »Qu'en pensez-vous? Un homme avait deux fils. Il s'adressa au premier et lui dit: 'Mon enfant, va travailler aujourd'hui dans ma vigne.'29 Il répondit: 'Je ne veux pas' mais, plus tard, il montra du regret et y alla.30 Le père s'adressa à l'autre et lui dit la même chose. Ce fils répondit: 'Je veux bien, seigneur', mais il n'y alla pas.31 Lequel des deux a fait la volonté du père?» Ils répondirent: «Le premier.» Et Jésus leur dit: «Je vous le dis en vérité, les collecteurs d'impôts et les prostituées vous précéderont dans le royaume de Dieu,

32 car Jean est venu à vous dans la voie de la justice et vous n'avez pas cru en lui. En revanche, les collecteurs d'impôts et les prostituées ont cru en lui et vous, qui avez vu cela, vous n'avez pas ensuite montré de regret pour croire en lui.

Parabole des vignerons

33 »Ecoutez une autre parabole. Il y avait un propriétaire, qui planta une vigne. Il l'entoura d'une haie, y creusa un pressoir et construisit une tour; puis il la loua à des vignerons et partit en voyage.34 Lorsque le temps de la récolte fut arrivé, il envoya ses serviteurs vers les vignerons pour recevoir sa part de récolte.35 Mais les vignerons s'emparèrent de ses serviteurs; ils battirent l'un, tuèrent l'autre et lapidèrent le troisième.36 Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs, en plus grand nombre que les premiers, et les vignerons les traitèrent de la même manière.37 Enfin, il envoya vers eux son fils en se disant: 'Ils auront du respect pour mon fils.'38 Mais, quand les vignerons virent le fils, ils se dirent entre eux: 'Voilà l'héritier. Venez, tuons-le et emparons-nous de son héritage!'39 Et ils s'emparèrent de lui, le jetèrent hors de la vigne et le tuèrent.40 Maintenant, lorsque le maître de la vigne viendra, que fera-t-il à ces vignerons?»

41 Ils lui répondirent: «Il fera mourir misérablement ces misérables et il louera la vigne à d'autres vignerons qui lui donneront sa part de récolte au moment voulu.»
42 Jésus leur dit: «N'avez-vous jamais lu dans les Ecritures: La pierre qu'ont rejetée ceux qui construisaient est devenue la pierre angulaire; c'est l'œuvre du Seigneur, et c'est un prodige à nos yeuxt ?43 C'est pourquoi, je vous le dis, le royaume de Dieu vous sera enlevé et sera donné à un peuple qui en produira les fruits.

44 Celui qui tombera sur cette pierre s'y brisera et celui sur qui elle tombera sera écrasé.»
45 Après avoir entendu ses paraboles, les chefs des prêtres et les pharisiens comprirent que c'était d'eux que Jésus parlait.

46 Ils cherchaient à l'arrêter, mais ils redoutaient les réactions de la foule, parce qu'elle considérait Jésus comme un prophète.

Matthew 21

1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and came unto Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,2 saying unto them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.3 And if any one say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.4 Now this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

5 Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, Meek, and riding upon an ass, And upon a colt the foal of an ass.

6 And the disciples went, and did even as Jesus appointed them,7 and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon.8 And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way.9 And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, Who is this?11 And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.

12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves;13 and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers.14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children that were crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were moved with indignation,16 and said unto him, Hearest thou what these are saying? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea: did ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou has perfected praise?17 And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

18 Now in the morning as he returned to the city, he hungered.19 And seeing a fig tree by the way side, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only; and he saith unto it, Let there be no fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away.20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How did the fig tree immediately wither away?21 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea, it shall be done.22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?26 But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet.27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.28 But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard.29 And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went.30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.31 Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

33 Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country.34 And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits.35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner.37 But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.38 But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance.39 And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him.40 When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons.42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes?

43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.44 And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.45 And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.46 And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.
