MATTHÉÜS 22
Gelykenis van die bruilof.
(Lk. 14:16-24.)
1 EN Jesus het weer deur gelykenisse met hulle begin spreek en gesê:
2 tDie koninkryk van die hemele is soos ’n koning wat t’n bruilof vir sy seun berei het
3 en sy diensknegte uitgestuur het om die genooides na die bruilof te roep, en hulle wou nie kom nie.
4 Weer het hy ander diensknegte uitgestuur met die boodskap: Sê vir die genooides: Kyk, my maaltyd het ek berei, my beeste en vetgemaakte vee is geslag en alles is gereed. Kom na die bruilof.
5 Maar hulle het hul daaraan nie gesteur nie en weggegaan, een na sy eie stuk land en ’n ander na sy handelsaak.
6 En die origes het sy diensknegte gegryp en mishandel en doodgemaak.
7 Toe die koning dit hoor, het hy kwaad geword en sy manskappe gestuur en daardie moordenaars omgebring en hulle stad aan die brand gesteek.
8 Daarop sê hy vir sy diensknegte: Die bruilof is wel gereed, maar die genooides was dit nie twerd nie.
9 Gaan dan op die kruispaaie en nooi almal wat julle mag vind, na die bruilof.
10 En daardie diensknegte het uitgegaan op die paaie en almal versamel wat hulle gevind het, tslegtes sowel as goeies, en die bruilofsaal het vol gaste geword.
11 En toe die koning ingaan om na die gaste te kyk, sien hy daar iemand twat nie ’n bruilofskleed aan het nie.
12 En hy sê vir hom: Vriend, hoe het jy hier ingekom sonder ’n bruilofskleed aan? En hy kon geen woord sê nie.
13 Toe sê die koning vir sy dienaars: Bind sy hande en voete, neem hom weg en twerp hom in die buitenste duisternis. Daar sal geween wees en gekners van die tande.
14 tWant baie is geroep, maar min uitverkies.Die vraag oor die belasting.

15 tTOE gaan die Fariseërs saam raad hou hoe om Hom in sy woord te verstrik.
16 En hulle stuur hul dissipels saam met die tHerodiane na Hom en sê: Meester, ons weet dat U waaragtig is en die weg van God in waarheid leer en U aan niemand steur nie, want U sien nie die persoon van mense aan nie —
17 sê dan vir ons, wat dink U: Is dit geoorloof om aan die tkeiser belasting te betaal of nie?
18 Maar Jesus het hulle boosheid bemerk en gesê:
19 Geveinsdes, waarom versoek julle My? Wys My die belastingmunt. En hulle het vir Hom ’n penning gebring.
20 En Hy sê vir hulle: Wie se beeld en opskrif is dit?
21 Hulle antwoord Hom: Die keiser s’n. Daarop sê Hy vir hulle: tBetaal dan aan die keiser wat die keiser toekom, en aan God wat God toekom.
22 En toe hulle dit hoor, was hulle verwonderd en het Hom verlaat en weggegaan.Die Sadduseërs en die opstanding.

23 DIESELFDE dag kom daar na Hom tSadduseërs, hulle twat sê dat daar geen opstanding is nie, en vra Hom
24 en sê: Meester, Moses het gesê: tAs iemand sonder kinders sterwe, moet sy broer sy vrou trou en kinders vir sy broer verwek.
25 Nou was daar by ons sewe broers, en die eerste het getrou en gesterwe; en omdat hy geen kinders gehad het nie, het hy sy vrou vir sy broer agtergelaat.
26 So ook die tweede en die derde tot die sewende toe.
27 En laaste van almal het die vrou ook gesterwe.
28 In die opstanding dan, van watter een van die sewe sal sy die vrou wees — want hulle almal het haar gehad?
29 Toe antwoord Jesus en sê vir hulle: Julle dwaal, tomdat julle die Skrifte nie ken nie en ook nie die krag van God nie.
30 Want in die opstanding trou hulle nie en word ook nie in die huwelik uitgegee nie, maar is tsoos engele van God in die hemel.
31 En wat die opstanding van die dode betref — het julle nie die woord gelees wat tot julle deur God gespreek is nie:
32 tEk is die God van Abraham en die God van Isak en die God van Jakob? God is nie ’n God van dooies nie, maar van lewendes.
33 En toe die skare dit hoor, twas hulle verslae oor sy leer.Die groot gebod.

34 EN toe die Fariseërs hoor dat Hy die Sadduseërs die mond gestop het, het hulle almal saam vergader.
35 En een van hulle, t’n wetgeleerde, het ’n vraag gestel om Hom te versoek en gesê:
36 Meester, wat is die groot gebod in die wet?
37 En Jesus antwoord hom: tJy moet die Here jou God liefhê met jou hele hart en met jou hele siel en met jou hele verstand.
38 Dit is die eerste en groot gebod.
39 En die tweede wat hiermee gelykstaan: tJy moet jou naaste liefhê soos jouself.
40 Aan hierdie twee gebooie hang die hele wet en die profete.Die Christus, seun van Dawid.

41 EN toe die Fariseërs saamgekom het, tvra Jesus hulle
42 en sê: Wat dink julle van die Christus? Wie se seun is Hy? Hulle antwoord Hom: tDawid s’n.
43 Hy sê vir hulle: Hoe is dit dan dat Dawid Hom in die Gees Here noem as hy sê:
44 tDie Here het tot my Here gespreek: Sit aan my regterhand totdat Ek u vyande gemaak het ’n voetbank van u voete?
45 As Dawid Hom dan Here noem, hoe is Hy sy seun?
46 En niemand kon Hom ’n woord antwoord nie; took het geeneen van daardie dag af dit meer gewaag om Hom vrae te stel nie.
Matthew 22
1 AND AGAIN Jesus spoke to them in parables (comparisons, stories used to illustrate and explain), saying,2 The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son3 And sent his servants to summon those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they refused to come.4 Again he sent other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my banquet; my bullocks and my fat calves are killed, and everything is prepared; come to the wedding feast.5 But they were not concerned and paid no attention [they ignored and made light of the summons, treating it with contempt] and they went away--one to his farm, another to his business,6 While the others seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and put them to death.7 [Hearing this] the king was infuriated; and he sent his soldiers and put those murderers to death and burned their city.8 Then he said to his servants, The wedding [feast] is prepared, but those invited were not worthy.9 So go to the thoroughfares where they leave the city [where the main roads and those from the country end] and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.10 And those servants went out on the crossroads and got together as many as they found, both bad and good, so [the room in which] the wedding feast [was held] was filled with guests.11 But when the king came in to view the guests, he looked intently at a man there who had on no wedding garment.12 And he said, Friend, how did you come in here without putting on the [appropriate] wedding garment? And he was speechless (muzzled, gagged).13 Then the king said to the attendants, Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the darkness outside; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.14 For many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen.15 Then the Pharisees went and consulted and plotted together how they might entangle Jesus in His talk.16 And they sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are sincere and what You profess to be and that You teach the way of God truthfully, regardless of consequences and being afraid of no man; for You are impartial and do not regard either the person or the position of anyone.17 Tell us then what You think about this: Is it lawful to pay tribute [levied on individuals and to be paid yearly] to Caesar or not?18 But Jesus, aware of their malicious plot, asked, Why do you put Me to the test and try to entrap Me, you pretenders (hypocrites)?19 Show me the money used for the tribute. And they brought Him a denarius.20 And Jesus said to them, Whose likeness and title are these?21 They said, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Pay therefore to Caesar the things that are due to Caesar, and pay to God the things that are due to God.22 When they heard it they were amazed and marveled; and they left Him and departed.23 The same day some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection [of the dead], came to Him and they asked Him a question,24 Saying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man dies, leaving no children, his brother shall marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother. 25 Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married and died, and, having no children, left his wife to his brother.26 The second also died childless, and the third, down to the seventh.27 Last of all, the woman died also.28 Now, in the resurrection, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her.29 But Jesus replied to them, You are wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor God’s power.30 For in the resurrected state neither do [men] marry nor are [women] given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.31 But as to the resurrection of the dead--have you never read what was said to you by God,32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living! 33 And when the throng heard it, they were astonished and filled with [glad] amazement at His teaching.34 Now when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced (muzzled) the Sadducees, they gathered together.35 And one of their number, a lawyer, asked Him a question to test Him.36 Teacher, which kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law? [Some commandments are light--which are heavy?]37 And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). 38 This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself. 40 These two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.41 Now while the Pharisees were still assembled there, Jesus asked them a question,42 Saying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose Son is He? They said to Him, The Son of David.43 He said to them, How is it then that David, under the influence of the [Holy] Spirit, calls Him Lord, saying,44 The Lord said to My Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet? 45 If then David thus calls Him Lord, how is He his Son?46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day did anyone venture or dare to question Him.
