Parábola de las bodas

(Lc 14,15-24)

1 Jesús, tomando la palabra, les volvió a hablar en parábolas diciendo:
2 — El reino de los cielost puede compararse a un rey que iba a celebrar la boda de su hijo. 3 Envió a sus criados a llamar a los invitados a la boda, pero estos no quisieron acudir. 4 Volvió a enviarles más criados, con este encargo: “Díganles a los invitados que ya tengo preparado el banquete. He hecho matar mis terneros y reses cebadas y está todo a punto. Que vengan a la boda”. 5 Pero los invitados no quisieron hacer caso, sino que cada cual se fue a su propia hacienda o sus negocios. 6 Hasta hubo algunos que, echando mano de los criados, los golpearon y los asesinaron.t 7 El rey entonces, montando en cólera, mandó a sus soldados que mataran a aquellos asesinos y quemaran su ciudad. 8 Después dijo a los criados: “La boda está preparada, pero aquellos invitados no eran dignos de venir. 9 Por tanto, vayan a las encrucijadas de los caminos e inviten a la boda a todos los que encuentren”.

10 Salieron los criados a los caminos y reunieron a cuantos encontraron, lo mismo malos que buenos. De esa manera, la sala de bodas se llenó de comensales.t
11 Cuando el rey entró a ver a los invitadost, observó que uno de ellos no llevaba traje de boda 12 y le preguntó: “Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí sin traje de boda?”. Él se negó a contestar. 13 Entonces el rey dijo a los criados: “Átendlo de pies y manos y arrójenlo fuera, a la oscuridad. Allí llorará y le rechinarán los dientest”.t

14 Porque muchos son llamados, pero pocos escogidos.

La cuestión del tributo al emperador

(Mc 12,13-17; Lc 20,20-26)

16 Así que le enviaron algunos de sus propios seguidores, junto con otros que pertenecían al partido de Herodes, para que le dijeran:
— Maestro, sabemos que tú eres sincero y que enseñas con toda verdad a vivir como Dios quieret; no te preocupa el qué dirán, ni juzgas a la gente por las apariencias.

17 Danos, pues, tu opinión: ¿estamos o no obligados a pagar tributo al emperador romano?

18 Jesús, advirtiendo su mala intención, les contestó:
— ¿Por qué me ponen trampas, hipócritas?

19 Enséñenme la moneda con que se paga el tributo.
Ellos le presentaron un denariot,

20 y Jesús preguntó:
— ¿De quién es esta efigie y esta inscripción?

21 Le contestaron:
— Del emperador.
Entonces les dijo Jesús:
— Pues den al emperador lo que es del emperador, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.t

22 Al oír esta respuesta, quedaron estupefactos y, dejando a Jesús, se fueron.

La cuestión de la resurrección

(Mc 12,18-27; Lc 20,27-40)

23 Aquel mismo día se acercaron a Jesús unos saduceost que, al no creer en la resurrección, le hicieron esta pregunta:
24 — Maestro, Moisés mandó: Si un hombre casado muere sin haber tenido hijos, su hermano deberá casarse con la viuda para dar descendencia al hermano difuntot.t 25 Pues bien, entre nosotros hubo una vez siete hermanos; el primero de ellos, que estaba casado, murió sin haber tenido descendencia, por lo cual su viuda se casó con el hermano siguiente. 26 Pero lo mismo le sucedió al segundo, y luego al tercero, y así hasta los siete. 27 La última en morir fue la mujer.

28 Así pues, en la resurrección, ¿de cuál de los siete hermanos será esposa, si todos estuvieron casados con ella?

29 Jesús les contestó:
— Están muy equivocados, porque ustedes ni conocen las Escrituras ni tienen idea del poder de Dios. 30 En la resurrección ya no habrá matrimonios, sino que todos serán como los ángelest que están en el cielo. 31 En cuanto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no han leído ustedes que Dios dijo:

32 Yo soy el Dios de Abrahán, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob? Pues bien, él es Dios de vivos y no de muertos.t

33 Escuchando a Jesús, la gente se quedaba admirada de su enseñanza.

El mandamiento más importante

(Mc 12,28-34, Lc 10,25-28)

35 y uno de ellos, doctor en la ley, le preguntó con intención de tenderle una trampa:t

36 — Maestro, ¿cuál es el mandamiento más importante de la ley?

37 Jesús le contestó:
— Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu inteligencia.t 38 Este es el primer mandamiento y el más importante. 39 Pero hay un segundo mandamiento que es parecido a este: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.t

40 En estos dos mandamientos se resume toda la ley de Moisés y la enseñanza de los profetast.t

¿De quién es hijo el Mesías?

(Mc 12,35-37; Lc 20,41-44)

41 Jesús abordó a los fariseos cuando se hallaban reunidos, y les preguntó:

42 — ¿Qué piensan ustedes acerca del Mesías? ¿De quién es hijo?
Le contestaron:
— De David.t

43 Jesús les replicó:
— Entonces, ¿cómo es que Davidt, inspirado por el Espíritu, lo llama Señor, cuando dice:

44  Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
“Siéntate a mi derecha
hasta que yo ponga a tus enemigos
debajo de tus pies”? t

45 Pues si David lo llama Señor, ¿cómo puede el Mesías ser hijo suyo?
46 A esto nadie supo qué contestar. A partir de aquel día, ninguno se atrevió ya a plantearle más preguntas.t

Matthew 22

The Parable of the Wedding Banquet

1 Jesus spoket to them again in parables, saying:2 “The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.3 He sent his slavest to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.4 Again he sent other slaves, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Look! The feast I have prepared for you is ready.t My oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.”’5 But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.6 Thet rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.7 Thet king was furious! He sent his soldiers, and they put those murderers to deatht and set their cityt on fire.8 Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but the ones who had been invited were not worthy.9 So go into the main streets and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.’10 And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all they found, both bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.11 But when the king came in to see the wedding guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say.t13 Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Paying Taxes to Caesar

15 Then the Phariseess went out and planned together to entrap him with his own words.t16 They sent to him their disciples along with the Herodians,s saying, “Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.s You do not court anyone’s favor because you show no partiality.t

17 Tell us then, what do you think? Is it rightt to pay taxests to Caesart or not?”
18 But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said, “Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?19 Show me the coin used for the tax.” Sot they brought him a denarius.ts20 Jesust said to them, “Whose imagets is this, and whose inscription?”21 They replied,t “Caesar’s.” He said to them,t “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”s

22 Now when they heard this they were stunned,t and they left him and went away.

Marriage and the Resurrection

23 The same day Sadduceess (who say there is no resurrection)s came to him and asked him,t24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and father childrentfor his brother.’s25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children he left his wife to his brother.26 The second did the same, and the third, down to the seventh.27 Lastt of all, the woman died.28 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.”t29 Jesust answered them, “You are deceived,t because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angelsss in heaven.31 Now as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God,t32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?s He is not the God of the dead but of the living!”s

33 When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.

The Greatest Commandment

34 Now when the Phariseess heard that he had silenced the Sadducees,s they assembled together.t35 And one of them, an expert in religious law,t asked him a question to testt him:36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”t37 Jesust said to him, “‘Lovetthe Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’s38 This is the first and greatestt commandment.39 The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’s

40 All the law and the prophets dependt on these two commandments.”

The Messiah: David’s Son and Lord

41 Whilet the Phariseess were assembled, Jesus asked them a question:t42 “What do you think about the Christ?ts Whose son is he?” They said, “The son of David.”s

43 He said to them, “How then does David by the Spirit call him ‘Lord,’ saying,

44 ‘The Lord said to my lord,s
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet”’?s
45 If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”t

46 No onet was able to answer him a word, and from that day on no one dared to question him any longer.
