Matteus 22
Kongesønnens bryllup
(Luk 14,16–24)
1 Igjen talte Jesus til dem i lignelser: 2 «Himmelriket kan lignes med en konge som skulle holde bryllup for sin sønn. t 3 Han sendte sine tjenere til de innbudte og bad dem komme til bryllupet. Men de ville ikke komme. 4 Da sendte han andre tjenere ut som skulle si til de innbudte: Festmåltidet har jeg gjort i stand, oksene og gjøfeet er slaktet, og alt er ferdig. Kom til bryllupet! 5 Men de brydde seg ikke om det og gikk sin vei, en til sin åker og en til sin forretning. 6 De andre la hånd på tjenerne, mishandlet dem og slo dem i hjel. t 7 Da ble kongen harm og sendte ut sine tropper som drepte disse morderne og brente byen deres. 8 Så sa han til tjenerne: Festen er gjort i stand, men de innbudte var ikke verdige. 9 Gå derfor ut på veikryssene, og innby til bryllupet alle dere treffer.
10 Og tjenerne gikk ut på veiene og samlet alle de møtte, både onde og gode, så bryllupssalen ble full av gjester.
11 Men da kongen kom inn for å hilse på gjestene, fikk han øye på en som ikke hadde på seg bryllupsklær. t 12 Han spurte ham: Min venn, hvordan er du kommet hit inn uten bryllupsklær? Men han tidde. 13 Da sa kongen til tjenerne: Bind hender og føtter på ham, og kast ham ut i mørket utenfor, der en gråter og skjærer tenner. t
14 For mange er kalt, men få er utvalgt.»Er det tillatt å betale skatt til keiseren?
(Mark 12,13–17; Luk 20,20–26)
15 Da gikk fariseerne bort, og de ble enige om at de ville fange ham i ord. 16 De sendte disiplene sine til ham sammen med noen herodianere, og lot dem si: «Mester, vi vet at du sier det som er sant, og virkelig lærer hva som er Guds vei. Du bryr deg ikke om hva andre mener, for du tar ikke hensyn til person eller rang. 17 Si oss da hva du mener om dette: Er det tillatt å betale skatt til keiseren eller ikke?» 18 Men Jesus merket deres ondskap og sa: «Dere hyklere, hvorfor setter dere meg på prøve? 19 Vis meg mynten som skatten betales med.» De rakte ham en denar, 20 og han spurte: «Hvem er det som har sitt bilde og sitt navn her?» 21 «Keiseren,» svarte de. Da sa han til dem: «Så gi keiseren hva keiserens er, og Gud hva Guds er.» t
22 De ble forundret over dette svaret og gikk sin vei.De dødes oppstandelse

23 Samme dag kom noen saddukeere til ham; det er de som hevder at det ikke er noen oppstandelse. De la fram for ham et spørsmål. t 24 «Mester,» sa de, «Moses har sagt: Om en mann dør barnløs, skal hans bror gifte seg med enken og gi sin bror etterkommere. t 25 Nå var det en gang sju brødre hos oss. Den eldste giftet seg, men døde barnløs, og etterlot sin kone til den nest eldste broren. 26 Det samme hendte med ham, og med den tredje, ja, med alle sju. 27 Sist av dem alle døde kvinnen.
28 Når de så oppstår, hvem av de sju skal da ha henne som hustru? Alle har jo vært gift med henne.»
29 Men Jesus svarte: «Dere farer vill, fordi dere ikke kjenner skriftene og heller ikke Guds makt. 30 For etter oppstandelsen tar de ikke til ekte og tas ikke til ekte, men de er som englene i himmelen. 31 Og har dere ikke lest hva Gud har sagt dere om de dødes oppstandelse: 32 Jeg er Abrahams Gud og Isaks Gud og Jakobs Gud. Han er ikke en Gud for døde, men for levende.» t
33 Folkemengden som hørte dette, var full av undring over hans lære.tDe to store bud

34 Da fariseerne hørte at han hadde stoppet munnen på saddukeerne, kom de sammen. 35 En av de lovkyndige blant dem ville sette ham på prøve og spurte: 36 «Mester, hvilket bud er det største i loven?» 37 Han svarte: «Du skal elske Herren din Gud av hele ditt hjerte og av hele din sjel og av all din forstand. t 38 Dette er det største og første bud. 39 Men et annet er like stort: Du skal elske din neste som deg selv. t
40 På disse to bud hviler hele loven og profetene.»tHvem Messias er

41 Mens fariseerne var samlet, spurte Jesus dem: 42 «Hva mener dere om Messias? Hvem er han sønn av?» «David,» svarte de. t
43 «Hvordan kan da David, drevet av Ånden, kalle ham herre?» spurte Jesus. «Han sier jo:t
44 Herren sa til min herre:
Sett deg ved min høyre hånd
til jeg får lagt dine fiender
under dine føtter. t
45 Om nå David kaller Messias for herre, hvordan kan han da være Davids sønn?» 46 Men ingen kunne svare ham et ord. Og fra den dagen våget ikke noen å spørre ham mer.t
Matthew 22
The Parable of the Wedding Banquet
1 Jesus spoket to them again in parables, saying:2 “The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.3 He sent his slavest to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.4 Again he sent other slaves, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Look! The feast I have prepared for you is ready.t My oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.”’5 But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.6 Thet rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.7 Thet king was furious! He sent his soldiers, and they put those murderers to deatht and set their cityt on fire.8 Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but the ones who had been invited were not worthy.9 So go into the main streets and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.’10 And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all they found, both bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.11 But when the king came in to see the wedding guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say.t13 Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Paying Taxes to Caesar
15 Then the Phariseess went out and planned together to entrap him with his own words.t16 They sent to him their disciples along with the Herodians,s saying, “Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.s You do not court anyone’s favor because you show no partiality.t
17 Tell us then, what do you think? Is it rightt to pay taxests to Caesart or not?”
18 But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said, “Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?19 Show me the coin used for the tax.” Sot they brought him a denarius.ts20 Jesust said to them, “Whose imagets is this, and whose inscription?”21 They replied,t “Caesar’s.” He said to them,t “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”s
22 Now when they heard this they were stunned,t and they left him and went away.
Marriage and the Resurrection
23 The same day Sadduceess (who say there is no resurrection)s came to him and asked him,t24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and father childrentfor his brother.’s25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children he left his wife to his brother.26 The second did the same, and the third, down to the seventh.27 Lastt of all, the woman died.28 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.”t29 Jesust answered them, “You are deceived,t because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angelsss in heaven.31 Now as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God,t32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?s He is not the God of the dead but of the living!”s
33 When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.
The Greatest Commandment
34 Now when the Phariseess heard that he had silenced the Sadducees,s they assembled together.t35 And one of them, an expert in religious law,t asked him a question to testt him:36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”t37 Jesust said to him, “‘Lovetthe Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’s38 This is the first and greatestt commandment.39 The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’s
40 All the law and the prophets dependt on these two commandments.”
The Messiah: David’s Son and Lord
41 Whilet the Phariseess were assembled, Jesus asked them a question:t42 “What do you think about the Christ?ts Whose son is he?” They said, “The son of David.”s
43 He said to them, “How then does David by the Spirit call him ‘Lord,’ saying,
44 ‘The Lord said to my lord,s
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet”’?s
45 If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”t
46 No onet was able to answer him a word, and from that day on no one dared to question him any longer.
