Berättelsen om bröllopsfesten

1 Jesus berättade ännu en bild för dem. Han sa:2 "Där Gud regerar blir det som i den här berättelsen:t En kung förberedde en stor bröllopsfest för sin son.3 Han bjöd in många gäster, och när förberedelserna var klara skickade han ut tjänare för att tala om för de inbjudna att det var dags att komma. Men alla tackade nej.

4 Då sände han andra tjänare för att säga till dem: 'Allt är klart, mina oxar och kalvar är slaktade. Skynda er att komma!'
5 Men gästerna som han hade bjudit var inte intresserade. De fortsatte var och en med sitt, den ene med sin lantgård, den andre med sina affärer.

6 Några grep till och med kungens tjänare och misshandlade dem och dödade dem.
7 Då sände den uppretade kungen ut sin armé, avrättade mördarna och brände ner deras stad.8 Sedan sa han till sina tjänare: 'Bröllopsfesten är klar, men de gäster jag bjöd in är inte värda att få vara med på festen.

9 Gå därför ut i gathörnen och bjud alla ni ser till bröllopet.'
10 Tjänarna gjorde då det och tog med sig alla de kunde hitta, både onda och goda, och festsalen fylldes med gäster.

11 Men när kungen kom in för att hälsa på gästerna la han märke till en man som inte hade bröllopskläder på sig.

12 'Min vän', frågade han, 'hur kan du vara här utan att ha bröllopskläder på dig?' Men mannen kunde inte svara.t
13 Då sa kungen till sina tjänare: 'Bind hans händer och fötter och kasta ut honom i mörkret här utanför. Där ska man gråta av ångest och förtvivlan.' "

14 Och Jesus avslutade med orden: "Många är de som är inbjudna av Gud, men få tackar ja och får tillhöra honom."

Ska man betala skatt till kejsaren?

15 Då gick fariseernat iväg för att fundera ut ett sätt att få Jesus att säga något som de kunde arrestera honom för.16 Och till slut skickade de några av sina män, tillsammans med kung Herodes anhängaret, och lät dem säga till Jesus: "Mästare, vi vet att du alltid är uppriktig. Du säger oss rakt ut vad som är Guds vilja och låter dig inte påverkas av någon.

17 Tala nu om för oss om det är rätt eller fel att betala skatt till den romerska kejsaren. Vad anser du?"
18 Men Jesus visste vad de var ute efter. "Ni falska människor som bara låtsas lyda Gud!" ropade han. "Varför försöker ni lura mig?19 Visa mig ett mynt, ett sådant som man betalar skatt med." Då gav de honom ett romerskt mynt,

20 och han frågade dem: "Vems bild är det här, och vems namn står under bilden?"
21 "Kejsarens", svarade de.
"Då så", sa han, "ge kejsaren det som är hans. Men det som tillhör Gud det måste ni ge till Gud."

22 Detta svar förvånade dem så mycket att de gick sin väg och lämnade honom ifred.

Ska de döda uppstå igen?

23 Samma dag kom några av saddukeernat till Jesus. De påstår att de döda inte ska uppstå igen, och därför frågade de honom:24 "Mästare, Mose har sagt: 'Om en man dör barnlös, ska hans bror gifta sig med änkan och se till att den döde får en son som kan ärva honom.'t25 Nu hade vi faktiskt bland oss en familj med sju bröder. Den äldste av bröderna gifte sig och dog barnlös, och därför gifte sig bror nummer två med änkan.26 Men han dog också barnlös, och då gifte sig bror nummer tre med henne. Så fortsatte det tills hon varit gift med dem alla sju.27 Sedan dog också kvinnan.

28 Vems fru blir hon när de döda uppstår igen? Alla sju har ju varit gifta med henne!"
29 Men Jesus svarade: "Ni tar alldeles fel, eftersom ni varken förstår Skriftent eller Guds kraft.30 När de döda har uppstått igen, ska det inte finnas någon som gifter sig. Alla kommer att vara som änglarna i himlen.31 Men när det gäller de dödas uppståndelse, har ni då aldrig läst i Skriften vad Gud har sagt till er:

32 'Jag är Abrahams, Isaks och Jakobs Gud'.t Gud är inte en gud för döda, utan för levande.t"

33 När folket hörde detta, blev de alldeles häpna över hans undervisning.

Vilket bud är viktigast?

34 Men när fariseernat fick höra att Jesus hade fått tyst på saddukeernat, samlades de,35 och en av dem, en laglärdt, försökte sätta dit Jesus genom att fråga:

36 "Mästare, vilket är det viktigaste budet i Moses lagt?"
37 Jesus svarade: " 'Du ska älska Herren, din Gud, av hela ditt hjärta, av hela din själ och av hela ditt förstånd.'t38 Detta är det första budet, och också det viktigaste.39 Det näst viktigaste liknar det första: 'Du ska älska din medmänniska som dig själv.'t

40 De här två buden sammanfattar allt som Gud har sagt genom Moses lag och profeterna.t"

Är Messias ättling till kung David?

41 Medan fariseernat var samlade runt Jesus, passade han på att fråga dem:42 "Vad anser ni om Messias, den utlovade kungen? Vem är han ättling till?"
De svarade: "Han är ättling till kung Davidt."43 "Varför kallar David honom då 'Herre', när han talar under Guds Andes inflytande?" frågade Jesus. "David sa ju:44 'Gud sa till min Herre: Kom och sitt på min högra sida och regera, tills jag har lagt dina fiender under dina fötter.'t

45 Menar ni verkligen att David skulle kalla en av sina ättlingar för Herre?"

46 Men de kunde inte svara, och från den dagen vågade ingen ställa några fler frågor till Jesus.

Matthew 22

The Parable of the Wedding Banquet

1 Jesus spoket to them again in parables, saying:2 “The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.3 He sent his slavest to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.4 Again he sent other slaves, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Look! The feast I have prepared for you is ready.t My oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.”’5 But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.6 Thet rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.7 Thet king was furious! He sent his soldiers, and they put those murderers to deatht and set their cityt on fire.8 Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but the ones who had been invited were not worthy.9 So go into the main streets and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.’10 And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all they found, both bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.11 But when the king came in to see the wedding guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say.t13 Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Paying Taxes to Caesar

15 Then the Phariseess went out and planned together to entrap him with his own words.t16 They sent to him their disciples along with the Herodians,s saying, “Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.s You do not court anyone’s favor because you show no partiality.t

17 Tell us then, what do you think? Is it rightt to pay taxests to Caesart or not?”
18 But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said, “Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?19 Show me the coin used for the tax.” Sot they brought him a denarius.ts20 Jesust said to them, “Whose imagets is this, and whose inscription?”21 They replied,t “Caesar’s.” He said to them,t “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”s

22 Now when they heard this they were stunned,t and they left him and went away.

Marriage and the Resurrection

23 The same day Sadduceess (who say there is no resurrection)s came to him and asked him,t24 “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and father childrentfor his brother.’s25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children he left his wife to his brother.26 The second did the same, and the third, down to the seventh.27 Lastt of all, the woman died.28 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.”t29 Jesust answered them, “You are deceived,t because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angelsss in heaven.31 Now as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God,t32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?s He is not the God of the dead but of the living!”s

33 When the crowds heard this, they were amazed at his teaching.

The Greatest Commandment

34 Now when the Phariseess heard that he had silenced the Sadducees,s they assembled together.t35 And one of them, an expert in religious law,t asked him a question to testt him:36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”t37 Jesust said to him, “‘Lovetthe Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’s38 This is the first and greatestt commandment.39 The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’s

40 All the law and the prophets dependt on these two commandments.”

The Messiah: David’s Son and Lord

41 Whilet the Phariseess were assembled, Jesus asked them a question:t42 “What do you think about the Christ?ts Whose son is he?” They said, “The son of David.”s

43 He said to them, “How then does David by the Spirit call him ‘Lord,’ saying,

44 ‘The Lord said to my lord,s
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet”’?s
45 If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”t

46 No onet was able to answer him a word, and from that day on no one dared to question him any longer.
