Liknelsen om bröllopsfesten
1 Än en gång talade Jesus till dem i liknelser: 2 ”Med himmelriket är det som när en kung höll bröllop för sin son. 3 Han skickade ut sina tjänare för att kalla de inbjudna till bröllopet, men de ville inte komma. 4 Då skickade han ut andra tjänare och lät dem säga till de inbjudna: ’Jag har ordnat för måltiden, mina oxar och gödkalvar är slaktade och allt är färdigt. Kom till bröllopet.’ 5 Men de brydde sig inte om det. En gick bort till sina åkrar och en till sina affärer. 6 De andra tog fast tjänarna, skymfade dem och slog ihjäl dem. 7 Då greps kungen av vrede, skickade ut sina soldater och lät döda mördarna och bränna ner deras stad. 8 Sedan sade han till sina tjänare: ’Allt är ordnat för bröllopet, men de inbjudna var inte värdiga. 9 Gå ut och ställ er där vägarna skiljs och bjud alla ni ser till bröllopet.’
10 Och då gick tjänarna ut på vägarna och samlade ihop alla de träffade på, onda och goda, och bröllopssalen fylldes med gäster.
11 När kungen kom in för att se sina gäster upptäckte han en man som inte var klädd i bröllopskläder. 12 Han sade: ’Min vän, hur kan du vara här utan att ha bröllopskläder på dig?’ Mannen kunde inte svara. 13 Då sade kungen till tjänarna: ’Bind honom till händer och fötter och kasta ut honom i mörkret där ute. Där skall man gråta och skära tänder.’
14 Många är bjudna, men få är utvalda.”Frågan om skatt till kejsaren
15 Då gick fariseerna bort och kom överens om att försöka få fast honom för något han sade. 16 De lät sina lärjungar och några av Herodes anhängare söka upp honom och säga: ”Mästare, vi vet att du är uppriktig och verkligen lär oss Guds väg. Du faller inte undan för någon och ser inte till personen. 17 Säg oss vad du anser: är det rätt eller inte att betala skatt till kejsaren?” 18 Jesus märkte deras onda avsikt och sade: ”Hycklare, varför vill ni sätta mig på prov? 19 Visa mig ett mynt som man betalar skatt med.” De räckte honom en denar, 20 och han frågade: ”Vems bild och namn är det här?” — 21 ”Kejsarens”, svarade de. Då sade han till dem: ”Ge då kejsaren det som tillhör kejsaren och Gud det som tillhör Gud.”
22 När de hörde detta blev de häpna. De lät honom vara och gick sin väg.Frågan om uppståndelsen
23 Samma dag kom det fram några saddukeer och sade att det inte finns någon uppståndelse, och de frågade honom: 24 ”Mästare, Mose har sagt: Om någon dör barnlös, skall hans bror gifta sig med änkan och skaffa efterkommande åt brodern. 25 Det fanns här hos oss sju bröder. Den förste gifte sig och dog, och då han inte hade några barn fick hans bror överta hustrun. 26 På samma sätt gick det med den andre och den tredje och med alla sju. 27 Sist av alla dog kvinnan. 28 Vem av de sju blir hon hustru till vid uppståndelsen? Alla har ju varit gifta med henne.” 29 Jesus svarade: ”Ni tänker fel därför att ni varken kan skriften eller vet något om Guds makt. 30 Vid uppståndelsen gifter man sig inte eller blir bortgift, utan alla är som änglarna i himlen. 31 Och vad de dödas uppståndelse beträffar, så har ni väl läst vad Gud har sagt till er: 32 Jag är Abrahams Gud och Isaks Gud och Jakobs Gud. Gud är inte en gud för döda utan för levande.”
33 När folket hörde detta häpnade de över hans undervisning.Frågan om det största budet i lagen
34 När fariseerna fick höra hur han hade gjort saddukeerna svarslösa samlades de, 35 och för att sätta honom på prov frågade en av dem, en laglärd: 36 ”Mästare, vilket är det största budet i lagen?” 37 Han svarade honom: ” Du skall älska Herren, din Gud, med hela ditt hjärta och med hela din själ och med hela ditt förstånd. 38 Detta är det största och första budet. 39 Sedan kommer ett av samma slag: Du skall älska din nästa som dig själv.
40 På dessa båda bud vilar hela lagen och profeterna.”Är Messias Davids son?
41 Då fariseerna var församlade frågade Jesus dem: 42 ”Vad anser ni om Messias? Vems son är han?” — ”Davids”, svarade de. 43 Då sade han: ”Hur kan då David på Andens ingivelse kalla honom herre och säga: 44 Herren sade till min herre: Sätt dig på min högra sida, så skall jag lägga dina fiender under dina fötter. 45 Om nu David kallar honom herre, hur kan han då vara Davids son?” 46 Ingen kunde svara honom, och efter den dagen vågade heller ingen längre ställa frågor till honom.

The Great Banquet
(Luke 14.15-24)
1 Once again Jesus used stories to teach the people:
2 The kingdom of heaven is like what happened when a king gave a wedding banquet for his son. 3 The king sent some servants to tell the invited guests to come to the banquet, but the guests refused.
4 He sent other servants to say to the guests, “The banquet is ready! My cattle and prize calves have all been prepared. Everything is ready. Come to the banquet!”
5 But the guests did not pay any attention. Some of them left for their farms, and some went to their places of business.
6 Others grabbed the servants, then beat them up and killed them.
7 This made the king so furious that he sent an army to kill those murderers and burn down their city. 8 Then he said to the servants, “It is time for the wedding banquet, and the invited guests don't deserve to come. 9 Go out to the street corners and tell everyone you meet to come to the banquet.”
10 They went out on the streets and brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike. And the banquet room was filled with guests.
11 When the king went in to meet the guests, he found that one of them wasn't wearing the right kind of clothes for the wedding. 12 The king asked, “Friend, why didn't you wear proper clothes for the wedding?” But the guest had no excuse. 13 t So the king gave orders for this person to be tied hand and foot and to be thrown outside into the dark. That's where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain.
14 t Many are invited, but only a few are chosen.Paying Taxes
(Mark 12.13-17; Luke 20.20-26)
15 The Pharisees got together and planned how they could trick Jesus into saying something wrong. 16 They sent some of their followers and some of Herod's followerst to say to him, “Teacher, we know that you are honest. You teach the truth about what God wants people to do. And you treat everyone with the same respect, no matter who they are.
17 Tell us what you think! Should we pay taxes to the Emperor or not?”
18 Jesus knew their evil thoughts and said, “Why are you trying to test me? You show-offs! 19 Let me see one of the coins used for paying taxes.” They brought him a silver coin,
20 and he asked, “Whose picture and name are on it?”
21 “The Emperor's,” they answered.
Then Jesus told them, “Give the Emperor what belongs to him and give God what belongs to God.”
22 His answer surprised them so much that they walked away.Life in the Future World
(Mark 12.18-27; Luke 20.27-40)
23 t The Sadducees did not believe people would rise to life after death. So that same day some of the Sadducees came to Jesus and said:
24 t Teacher, Moses wrote that if a married man dies and has no children, his brother should marry the widow. Their first son would then be thought of as the son of the dead brother.
25 Once there were seven brothers who lived here. The first one married, but died without having any children. So his wife was left to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brothers and finally to all seven of them. 27 At last the woman died.
28 When God raises people from death, whose wife will this woman be? She had been married to all seven brothers.
29 Jesus answered:
You are completely wrong! You don't know what the Scriptures teach. And you don't know anything about the power of God. 30 t When God raises people to life, they won't marry. They will be like the angels in heaven. 31 And as for people being raised to life, God was speaking to you when he said,
32 t “I am the God worshiped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”t He isn't the God of the dead, but of the living.
33 The crowds were surprised to hear what Jesus was teaching.The Most Important //Commandment
(Mark 12.28-34; Luke 10.25-28)
34 After Jesus had made the Sadducees look foolish, the Pharisees heard about it and got together. 35 t One of them was an expert in the Jewish Law. So he tried to test Jesus by asking,
36 “Teacher, what is the most important commandment in the Law?”
37 t Jesus answered:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. 38 This is the first and most important commandment. 39 t The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, “Love others as much as you love yourself.”
40 All the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophetst are based on these two commandments.About David's Son
(Mark 12.35-37; Luke 20.41-44)
41 While the Pharisees were still there, Jesus asked them,
42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose family will he come from?”
They answered, “He will be a son of King David.”t
43 Jesus replied, “How then could the Spirit lead David to call the Messiah his Lord? David said,
44 t ‘The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit at my right sidet
until I make your enemies
into a footstool for you.’
45 If David called the Messiah his Lord, how can the Messiah be a son of King David?” 46 No one was able to give Jesus an answer, and from that day on, no one dared ask him any more questions.
