Матей 22

1 І, озвавшись Ісус, знов промовив до них приповістями, глаголючи:2 Уподобилось царство небесне чоловіку цареві, що нарядив весїллє синові своєму;3 і післав слуги свої кликати запрошених на весїллє; і не схотїли прийти.4 Знов післав инші слуги, говорячи: Скажіть запрошеним: Ось я обід мій наготовив; воли мої й годоване побито, і все налагоджене; ідїть на весїллє.5 Вони ж, занехавши, пійшли собі, один на хутір, другий до свого торгу;6 а останнї, взявши слуг його, знущались із них, та й повбивали.7 Цар же, почувши, прогнївив ся, й піславши військо своє, вигубив тих розбишак, і запалив город їх.8 Рече тодї до слуг своїх: Весїллє налагоджене, запрошені ж не були достойні.9 Ійдїть же на росхідні шляхи, й кого знайдете, запрошуйте на весїллє.10 І вийшовши слуги ті на шляхи, зібрали всїх, кого знайшли, й лихих і добрих; і було весїллє повне гостей.11 Цар же, ввійшовши подивитись на гостї, побачив там чоловіка, не одягненого у весїльню одежу;12 і рече до него: Друже, як се увійшов єси сюди, не мавши весїльньої одежі? Він же мовчав.13 Рече тодї цар до слуг: Звязавши йому ноги й руки, візьміть його й викиньте в темряву надвірню; там буде плач і скреготаннє зубів.14 Багато бо званих, мало ж вибраних.15 Тодї пійшли Фарисеї, і радили раду, як би піймати Його на слові.16 І висилають до Него учеників своїх з Іродиянами, говорячи: Учителю, знаємо, що ти правдивий єси, й на путь Божий правдою наставляєш, і нї про кого не дбаєш; бо не дивиш ся на лице людей.17 Скажи ж тепер нам: Як тобі здаєть ся? годить ся давати данину кесареві, чи нї?18 Постеріг же Ісус лукавство їх, і рече: Що ви мене спокушуєте, лицеміри?19 Покажіть менї гріш податковий. Вони ж принесли йому денария.20 І рече до них: Чиє обличчє се й надпись?21 Кажуть йому: Кесареве. Тодї рече до них: Віддайте ж кесареве кесареві, а Боже Богові.22 І, вислухавши, здивувались, і, лишивши Його, пійшли.23 Того ж дня приступили до Него Садукеї, що кажуть: нема воскресення, і питали Його,24 говорячи: Учителю, Мойсей сказав: Коли хто вмре, не мавши дїтей, то нехай брат його оженить ся з жінкою його, й воскресить насїннє братові своєму.25 Було ж у нас сїм братів; і первий, оженившись, умер, і, не мавши насїння, покинув жінку свою братові своєму;26 так само й другий брат, і третїй, аж до семого.27 Опісля ж усїх умерла й жінка.28 Оце ж у воскресенню кому з сїмох буде вона жінкою? всї бо мали її.29 Озвав ся ж Ісус і рече до них: Помиляєтесь ви, не знаючи писання, анї сили Божої.30 Бо в воскресенню не женять ся, нї віддають ся, а будуть як ангели Божі на небі.31 Про воскресеннє ж мертвих хиба не читали, що сказано вам од Бога, глаголючого:32 Я Бог Авраамів, і Бог Ісааків, і Бог Яковів? Не єсть Бог Богом мертвих, а живих.33 І, слухаючи народ, дивував ся наукою Його.34 Фарисеї ж, почувши, що Він примусив Садукеїв мовчати, зібрались ради того.35 І спитав один з них, учитель закону, спокушуючи Його й кажучи:36 Учителю, котора заповідь велика в законї?37 Ісус же рече йому: Люби Господа Бога твого всїм серцем твоїм, і всею душею твоєю, і всею думкою твоєю.38 Се перва й велика заповідь.39 Друга ж подібна їй: Люби ближнього твого, як себе самого.40 На сих двох заповідях увесь закон і пророки стоять.41 Як же зібрались Фарисеї, питав їх Ісус,42 глаголючи: Що ви думаєте про Христа? чий Він син? Кажуть Йому: Давидів.43 Рече Він до них: Як же се Давид зве Його в дусї Господом, говорячи:44 Рече Господь Господеві моєму: Сиди по правицї в мене, доки положу ворогів Твоїх підніжком ніг твоїх?45 Коли ж Давид зве Його Господом, то як же Він син йому?46 І нїхто не з'умів йому відказати нї слова, й нїхто з того часу не важив ся питати Його нїколи.

MATTHEW 22

The Great Banquet

(Luke 14.15-24)

1 Once again Jesus used stories to teach the people:
2 The kingdom of heaven is like what happened when a king gave a wedding banquet for his son. 3 The king sent some servants to tell the invited guests to come to the banquet, but the guests refused.

4 He sent other servants to say to the guests, “The banquet is ready! My cattle and prize calves have all been prepared. Everything is ready. Come to the banquet!”
5 But the guests did not pay any attention. Some of them left for their farms, and some went to their places of business.

6 Others grabbed the servants, then beat them up and killed them.
7 This made the king so furious that he sent an army to kill those murderers and burn down their city. 8 Then he said to the servants, “It is time for the wedding banquet, and the invited guests don't deserve to come. 9 Go out to the street corners and tell everyone you meet to come to the banquet.”

10 They went out on the streets and brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike. And the banquet room was filled with guests.
11 When the king went in to meet the guests, he found that one of them wasn't wearing the right kind of clothes for the wedding. 12 The king asked, “Friend, why didn't you wear proper clothes for the wedding?” But the guest had no excuse. 13 t So the king gave orders for this person to be tied hand and foot and to be thrown outside into the dark. That's where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain.

14 t Many are invited, but only a few are chosen.

Paying Taxes

(Mark 12.13-17; Luke 20.20-26)

17 Tell us what you think! Should we pay taxes to the Emperor or not?”
18 Jesus knew their evil thoughts and said, “Why are you trying to test me? You show-offs! 19 Let me see one of the coins used for paying taxes.” They brought him a silver coin,

20 and he asked, “Whose picture and name are on it?”

21 “The Emperor's,” they answered.
Then Jesus told them, “Give the Emperor what belongs to him and give God what belongs to God.”

22 His answer surprised them so much that they walked away.

Life in the Future World

(Mark 12.18-27; Luke 20.27-40)

23  t The Sadducees did not believe people would rise to life after death. So that same day some of the Sadducees came to Jesus and said:

24  t Teacher, Moses wrote that if a married man dies and has no children, his brother should marry the widow. Their first son would then be thought of as the son of the dead brother.
25 Once there were seven brothers who lived here. The first one married, but died without having any children. So his wife was left to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brothers and finally to all seven of them. 27 At last the woman died.

28 When God raises people from death, whose wife will this woman be? She had been married to all seven brothers.

29 Jesus answered:
You are completely wrong! You don't know what the Scriptures teach. And you don't know anything about the power of God. 30 t When God raises people to life, they won't marry. They will be like the angels in heaven. 31 And as for people being raised to life, God was speaking to you when he said,

32 t “I am the God worshiped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”t He isn't the God of the dead, but of the living.

33 The crowds were surprised to hear what Jesus was teaching.

The Most Important //Commandment

(Mark 12.28-34; Luke 10.25-28)

36 “Teacher, what is the most important commandment in the Law?”

37  t Jesus answered:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. 38 This is the first and most important commandment. 39 t The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, “Love others as much as you love yourself.”

40 All the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophetst are based on these two commandments.

About David's Son

(Mark 12.35-37; Luke 20.41-44)

42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose family will he come from?”
They answered, “He will be a son of King David.”t

43 Jesus replied, “How then could the Spirit lead David to call the Messiah his Lord? David said,

44  t ‘The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit at my right sidet
until I make your enemies
into a footstool for you.’
45 If David called the Messiah his Lord, how can the Messiah be a son of King David?” 46 No one was able to give Jesus an answer, and from that day on, no one dared ask him any more questions.
