Historia de los invitados a una boda

1 Jesús comenzó a hablarle a la gente una vez más por medio de historiast. Les dijo:2 «El reino de Diost es como un rey que ofreció una boda para su hijo.3 El rey envió a sus siervos para que les dijeran a los invitados que vinieran, pero los invitados no querían ir.4 Envió otra vez a otros siervos y les dijo: "Díganles a los invitados que todo está listo, que se mataron las reses y los animales engordados. Todo está preparado. ¡Que vengan a la boda!"5 Pero los invitados no hicieron caso. Uno se fue a trabajar en su tierra, otro se fue a sus negocios y6 otros ataron a los siervos del rey, los torturaron y los mataron.7 El rey se enfureció, envió a sus soldados y ellos mataron a los asesinos y quemaron su ciudad.8 Entonces el rey les dijo a sus siervos: "La boda está lista, pero los que se invitaron no la merecían.9 Vayan, pues, a las esquinas de las calles e inviten a todo el que encuentren para que venga".

10 Los siervos salieron a los caminos. Reunieron a todos los que pudieron encontrar sin importar que fueran buenos o malos y el salón se llenó de invitados.
11 »Cuando el rey vino a verlos, vio a un hombre que no estaba vestido con ropa como para ir a una boda.12 El rey le dijo: "Amigo, ¿cómo hiciste para entrar aquí sin estar vestido con ropa adecuada para una boda?" Pero el hombre se quedó callado.13 Entonces el rey les dijo a sus siervos: "Átenlo de pies y manos y échenlo afuera, a la oscuridad. Ahí es donde la gente llorará y crujirá los dientes de dolor".

14 Porque muchos son invitados pero pocos son elegidos».

El pago de impuestos

15 Luego los fariseost fueron y se reunieron para planear cómo hacer caer a Jesús en algo que él dijera.

16 Enviaron a sus propios seguidores con algunos herodianost, quienes le dijeron:
—Maestro, sabemos que eres un hombre honesto y enseñas con sinceridad el camino de Dios. No tienes miedo de lo que los demás piensen de ti porque para ti todos son iguales.

17 Por eso dinos qué piensas tú: ¿Está bien que paguemos impuestos al emperador o no?

18 Jesús se dio cuenta de sus malas intenciones y les dijo:
—¡Hipócritas! ¿Por qué tratan de ponerme una trampa?

19 Muéstrenme una moneda con la que pagan impuestos.
Ellos le dieron una moneda de platat.

20 Entonces él les dijo:
—¿De quién es la imagen que está en la moneda y el nombre que está escrito en ella?

21 Ellos dijeron:
—Del emperador.
Entonces Jesús les dijo:
—Den al emperador lo que es del emperador y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

22 Cuando ellos escucharon su respuesta, se asombraron y se alejaron.

Pregunta sobre la resurrección

23 Ese día, unos saduceost, los que dicen que no hay resurrección, se acercaron a Jesús y le preguntaron:
24 —Maestro, Moisést dijo que si un hombre muere sin haber tenido hijos, su hermano debía casarse con la viuda. De esa manera los hijos que tuvieran serían considerados hijos del hermano fallecido.t25 Una vez hubo siete hermanos que vivían entre nosotros. El primero se casó, pero más tarde murió sin dejar hijos. Su hermano se casó con la viuda.26 Lo mismo pasó con el segundo, el tercero y con todos los siete hermanos.27 Después la mujer también murió.

28 Puesto que todos los hermanos se habían casado con ella, el día en que la gente resucite, ¿de quién será esposa la viuda?

29 Jesús les contestó:
—Ustedes están equivocados porque no saben lo que dicen las Escriturast ni conocen el poder de Dios.30 Cuando la gente resucite, no se casará, sino que todos serán como los ángeles del cielo.31 Además, con respecto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no han leído lo que Dios les dijo a ustedes:

32 "Yo soy el Dios de Abrahamt, el Dios de Isaact y el Dios de Jacobtt? Él no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos.

33 Al oír la gente esto, quedó admirada de su enseñanza.

El mandamiento más importante

34 Cuando los fariseost oyeron que Jesús dejó callados a los saduceost, se reunieron.

35 Uno de ellos, que era experto en la ley, quería tenderle una trampa a Jesús y le preguntó:

36 —Maestro, ¿cuál es el mandamiento más importante de la ley?

37 Jesús le dijo:
—"Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente".t38 Este es el primer mandamiento y el más importante.39 Hay un segundo mandamiento parecido a este: "Ama a tu semejante como te amas a ti mismo".t

40 Toda la ley y los escritos de los profetas dependen de estos dos mandamientos.

¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

41 Estando todavía ahí los fariseost, Jesús les preguntó:

42 —¿Qué piensan ustedes sobre el Cristot? ¿De quién es hijo?
Ellos respondieron:
—De David.

43 Jesús les preguntó:
—Entonces, ¿cómo es que David, inspirado por el Espíritu Santo, le llamaba: "Señor"? Porque David dijo:
44 »"El Señor Dios le dijo a mi Señor:
Siéntate a mi derecha,
y yo pondré a tus enemigos bajo tu podert.t

45 Entonces si David llama al Cristo "Señor", ¿cómo puede él ser su hijo?

46 Pero nadie pudo contestarle y desde ese día nadie se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas.

Matthew 22

Parable of the Marriage Feast

1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying,2 "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.3 And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come.4 Again he sent out other slaves saying, 'Tell those who have been invited, "Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast."'5 But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business,6 and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them.7 But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire.8 Then he *said to his slaves, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.9 Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.'10 Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests.

11 "But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes,12 and he *said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?' And the man was speechless.13 Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'14 For many are called, but few are chosen."

Tribute to Caesar

15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said.16 And they *sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any.17 Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?"18 But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, "Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?19 Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax." And they brought Him a denarius.20 And He *said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?"21 They *said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He *said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's."22 And hearing this, they were amazed, and leaving Him, they went away.

Jesus Answers the Sadducees

23 On that day some Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to Jesus and questioned Him,24 asking, "Teacher, Moses said, 'IF A MAN DIES HAVING NO CHILDREN, HIS BROTHER AS NEXT OF KIN SHALL MARRY HIS WIFE, AND RAISE UP CHILDREN FOR HIS BROTHER.'25 Now there were seven brothers with us; and the first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother;26 so also the second, and the third, down to the seventh.27 Last of all, the woman died.28 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her."

29 But Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.31 But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God:32 'I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.

34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together.35 One of them, ta lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him,36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"37 And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'38 This is the great and foremost commandment.39 The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."

41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question:42 "What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They *said to Him, " The son of David."43 He *said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying,

44 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,
"SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET"'?45 If David then calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his son?"46 No one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him another question.
