هشدار به رهبران مذهبی

1 آنگاه عیسی خطاب به مردم و شاگردان خود چنین گفت:2 «علمای دین و فَریسیان بر مسند موسی نشسته‌اند.3 پس آنچه به شما می‌گویند، نگاه دارید و به‌جا آورید؛ امّا همچون آنان عمل نکنید! زیرا آنچه تعلیم می‌دهند، خود به‌جا نمی‌آورند.4 بارهای توان‌فرسا را می‌بندند و بر دوش مردم می‌گذارند، امّا خود حاضر نیستند برای حرکت دادن آن حتی انگشتی تکان دهند.5 هر چه می‌کنند برای آن است که مردم آنها را ببینند: آیه‌دان‌هایt خود را بزرگتر و دامن ردای خویش را پهنتر می‌سازند.6 دوست دارند در ضیافتها بر صدر مجلس بنشینند و در کنیسه‌ها بهترین جای را داشته باشند،7 و مردم در کوچه و بازار آنها را سلام گویند و ”استاد“ خطاب کنند.8 امّا شما ”استاد“ خوانده مشوید، زیرا تنها یک استاد دارید، و همۀ شما برادرید.9 هیچ‌کس را نیز بر روی زمین ”پدر“ مخوانید، زیرا تنها یک پدر دارید که در آسمان است.10 و نیز ”معلم“ خوانده مشوید، زیرا فقط یک معلم دارید که مسیح است.11 آن که در میان شما از همه بزرگتر است، خدمتگزار شما خواهد بود.12 زیرا هر که خود را بزرگ سازد، پست خواهد شد و هر که خویشتن را فروتن سازد، سرافراز خواهد گردید.13 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فَریسیان ریاکار! شما درِ پادشاهی آسمان را به‌روی مردم می‌بندید؛ نه خود داخل می‌شوید و نه می‌گذارید کسانی که در راهند، داخل شوند.14 [«وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فَریسیان ریاکار، شما از سویی خانۀ بیوه‌زنان را غارت می‌کنید و از دیگر سو، برای تظاهر، دعای خود را طول می‌دهید. از همین‌رو، مکافاتتان بسی سخت‌تر خواهد بود.]15 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فَریسیان ریاکار! شما دریا و خشکی را درمی‌نوردید تا یک نفر را به دین خود بیاورید و وقتی چنین کردید، او را دو چندان بدتر از خود، فرزند جهنم می‌سازید.16 «وای بر شما ای راهنمایان کور که می‌گویید: ”اگر کسی به معبد سوگند خورَد باکی نیست، امّا اگر به طلای معبد سوگند خورَد، باید به سوگند خود وفا کند.“17 ای نابخردانِ کور! کدام برتر است؟ طلا یا معبدی که طلا را تقدیس می‌کند؟18 و نیز می‌گویید: ”اگر کسی به مذبح سوگند خورَد، باکی نیست، امّا اگر به هدیه‌ای که بر آن گذاشته می‌شود سوگند خورَد، باید به سوگند خود وفا کند.“19 ای کوران! کدام برتر است؟ هدیه یا مذبحی که هدیه را تقدیس می‌کند؟20 پس، کسی که به مذبح سوگند می‌خورد، همانا به مذبح و هر آنچه بر آن است سوگند خورده است.21 و هر که به معبد سوگند می‌خورد، به معبد و به آن که در آن ساکن است سوگند خورده است.22 و هر که به آسمان سوگند می‌خورد، به تخت خدا و به آن که بر آن نشسته است سوگند خورده است.23 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فَریسیان ریاکار! شما از نعناع و شِوید و زیره ده‌یک می‌دهید، امّا احکام مهمترِ شریعت را که همانا عدالت و رحمت و امانت است، نادیده می‌گیرید. اینها را می‌بایست به‌جای می‌آوردید و آنها را نیز فراموش نمی‌کردید.24 ای راهنمایان کور! شما پشه را صافی می‌کنید، امّا شتر را فرومی‌بلعید!25 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فَریسیان ریاکار! شما بیرون پیاله و بشقاب را پاک می‌کنید، امّا درون آن مملو از طمع و ناپرهیزی است.26 ای فَریسی کور، نخست درون پیاله و بشقاب را پاک کن که بیرونش نیز پاک خواهد شد.27 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فَریسیان ریاکار! شما همچون گورهایی هستید سفیدکاری شده که از بیرون زیبا به‌نظر می‌رسند، امّا درون آنها پُر است از استخوانهای مردگان و انواع نجاسات!28 به همین‌سان، شما نیز خود را به مردم پارسا می‌نمایید، امّا در باطن مملو از ریاکاری و شرارتید.29 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فَریسیان ریاکار! شما برای پیامبران مقبره می‌سازید و آرامگاه پارسایان را می‌آرایید30 و می‌گویید: ”اگر در روزگار پدران خود بودیم، هرگز در کشتن پیامبران با ایشان شریک نمی‌شدیم.“31 بدین‌سان، خود می‌پذیرید که فرزندانِ قاتلانِ پیامبرانید.32 حال که چنین است، پس آنچه را پدرانتان آغاز کردند، شما به کمال رسانید!33 ای ماران! ای افعی‌زادگان! چگونه از مجازات جهنم خواهید گریخت؟34 چرا که من انبیا و حکیمان و علما نزد شما می‌فرستم و شما برخی را خواهید کشت و بر صلیب خواهید کشید، و برخی را در کنیسه‌های خود تازیانه خواهید زد و شهر به شهر تعقیب خواهید کرد.35 پس، همۀ خون پارسایان که بر زمین ریخته شده است، از خون هابیلِ پارسا گرفته تا خون زکریا بن بِرِخیا، که او را بین محرابگاه و مذبح کشتید، بر گردن شما خواهد بود.36 آمین، به شما می‌گویم، قصاص این‌همه را، این نسل خواهد پرداخت.37 «ای اورشلیم، ای اورشلیم، ای قاتلِ پیامبران و سنگسارکنندۀ رسولانی که نزد تو فرستاده می‌شوند! چند بار خواستم همچون مرغی که جوجه‌هایش را زیر بالهای خویش جمع می‌کند، فرزندان تو را گِرد آورم، امّا نخواستی!38 اینک خانۀ شما به خودتان ویران واگذاشته می‌شود.39 زیرا به شما می‌گویم که از این پس مرا نخواهید دید تا روزی که بگویید: ”خجسته باد او که به نام خداوند می‌آید.“»

Jesus Condemns the Pharisees //and the Teachers of //the Law of Moses

(Mark 12.38-40; Luke 11.37-52; 20.45-47)

1 Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
2 The Pharisees and the teachers of the Law are experts in the Law of Moses.

3 So obey everything they teach you, but don't do as they do. After all, they say one thing and do something else.
4 They pile heavy burdens on people's shoulders and won't lift a finger to help. 5 t Everything they do is just to show off in front of others. They even make a big show of wearing Scripture verses on their foreheads and arms, and they wear big tasselst for everyone to see. 6 They love the best seats at banquets and the front seats in the synagogues.

7 And when they are in the market, they like to have people greet them as their teachers.
8 But none of you should be called a teacher. You have only one teacher, and all of you are like brothers and sisters. 9 Don't call anyone on earth your father. All of you have the same Father in heaven. 10 None of you should be called the leader. The Messiah is your only leader. 11 t Whoever is the greatest should be the servant of the others.

12 t If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.

13-14 You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. You won't go in yourselves, and you keep others from going in.t

15 You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You travel over land and sea to win one follower. And when you have done so, you make that person twice as fit for hell as you are.
16 You are in for trouble! You are supposed to lead others, but you are blind. You teach that it doesn't matter if a person swears by the temple. But you say it does matter if someone swears by the gold in the temple.

17 You blind fools! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
18 You also teach that it doesn't matter if a person swears by the altar. But you say it does matter if someone swears by the gift on the altar. 19 Are you blind? Which is more important, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 Anyone who swears by the altar also swears by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple also swears by God, who lives there.

22 t To swear by heaven is the same as swearing by God's throne and by the one who sits on that throne.
23  t You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your garden, such as mint, dill, and cumin. Yet you neglect the more important matters of the Law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These are the important things you should have done, though you should not have left the others undone either.

24 You blind leaders! You strain out a small fly but swallow a camel.
25 You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You wash the outside of your cups and dishes, while inside there is nothing but greed and selfishness.

26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of a cup, and then the outside will also be clean.
27  t You Pharisees and teachers are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You're like tombs that have been whitewashed.t On the outside they are beautiful, but inside they are full of bones and filth.

28 That's what you are like. Outside you look good, but inside you are evil and only pretend to be good.
29 You Pharisees and teachers are nothing but show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You build monuments for the prophets and decorate the tombs of good people. 30 And you claim you would not have taken part with your ancestors in killing the prophets. 31 But you prove you really are the relatives of the ones who killed the prophets. 32 So keep on doing everything they did.

33 t You are nothing but snakes and the children of snakes! How can you escape going to hell?
34 I will send to you prophets and wise people and experts in the Law of Moses. You will kill them or nail them to a cross or beat them in your synagogues or chase them from town to town. 35 t That's why you will be held guilty for the murder of every good person, beginning with the good man Abel. This also includes Barachiah's son Zechariah, t the man you murdered between the temple and the altar.

36 I can promise that you people living today will be punished for all these things!
