Vai de voi cărturari și farisei ipocriți!

1 Atunci Isus le-a vorbit mulțimilor și ucenicilor Săi.

2 El le-a zis:
„Cărturarii și fariseii stau pe scaunul lui Moise.3 Deci să faceți și să păziți toate lucrurile pe care vi le spun ei, dar să nu faceți după faptele lor, pentru că ei zic, dar nu fac.4 Ei leagă poveri grele și dificil de dus și le pun pe umerii oamenilor, dar ei înșiși nici măcar cu degetul nu vor să le miște.

5 Toate faptele lor le fac pentru a fi văzuți de oameni. Astfel, își fac filacterelet largi și ciucurii lungi și6 iubesc să li se dea locul de onoare la mese și scaunele de onoare în sinagogi,7 să fie salutați prin piețe și să fie numiți de oameni: « Rabbi »t.

8 Voi însă să nu vă numiți « Rabbi », căci Unul singur este Învățătorul vostru, iar voi toți sunteți frați.9 Și «tată» să nu numiți pe nimeni pe pământ, căci Unul singur este Tatăl vostru, și anume Cel ceresc.10 De asemenea, să nu numiți pe nimeni «îndrumător», căci Unul singur este Îndrumătorul vostru, și anume Cristosul.11 Cel mai mare dintre voi va fi slujitorul vostru.12 Oricine se înalță pe sine va fi smerit și oricine se smerește va fi înălțat.

13 Vai de voi, cărturari și farisei ipocriți! Căci voi închideți Împărăția Cerurilor în fața oamenilor; nici voi nu intrați, și nici pe cei ce vor să intre nu-i lăsați să intre!
14 (Vai de voi, cărturari și farisei ipocriți! Căci voi devorați casele văduvelor și faceți rugăciuni lungi de ochii lumii. De aceea veți primi o condamnare mult mai mare.)t

15 Vai de voi, cărturari și farisei ipocriți! Căci voi înconjurați marea și uscatul pentru a face un prozelit, dar când devine astfel, faceți din el de două ori mai mult un fiu al Gheeneit decât sunteți voi!

16 Vai de voi, călăuze oarbe, care ziceți: «Dacă cineva jură pe Templu, acest lucru nu înseamnă nimic, dar dacă cineva jură pe aurul Templului, este dator să-și țină jurământul !»17 Nesăbuiților și orbilor! Ce este de mai mare importanță: aurul sau Templul, care sfințește aurul?18  Voi mai ziceți : «Dacă cineva jură pe altar, acest lucru nu înseamnă nimic, dar dacă jură pe darul de pe altar, este dator să-și țină jurământul !»19 Orbilor! Ce este de mai mare importanță: darul sau altarul, care sfințește darul?20 Prin urmare, cel ce jură pe altar, jură pe el și pe tot ce este pe el,21 iar cel ce jură pe Templu, jură pe el și pe Cel Ce locuiește în el.22 De asemenea, cel ce jură pe cer, jură pe tronul lui Dumnezeu și pe Cel Ce stă pe el.

23 Vai de voi, cărturari și farisei ipocriți! Căci voi dați zeciuială din mentă, din mărar și din chimion, dar neglijați cele mai importante lucruri din Lege, și anume dreptatea, mila și credincioșia! Pe acestea trebuia să le faceți, iar pe acelea să nu le neglijați!24 Călăuze oarbe, care strecurați țânțarul și înghițiți cămila!t

25 Vai de voi, cărturari și farisei ipocriți! Căci voi curățați pe dinafară paharul și farfuria, dar pe dinăuntru sunt pline de jaf și de necumpătare!26 Fariseu orb! Curăță mai întâi pe dinăuntru paharul (și farfuria)t, ca să fie curatet și pe dinafară!

27 Vai de voi, cărturari și farisei ipocriți! Căci voi vă asemănați cu mormintele văruitet, care pe dinafară arată frumos, dar înăuntru sunt pline de oasele celor morți și de orice fel de necurăție!28 Tot așa și voi, pe dinafară vă arătați drepți oamenilor, dar pe dinăuntru sunteți plini de ipocrizie și de fărădelege!

29 Vai de voi, cărturari și farisei ipocriți! Căci voi zidiți mormintele profeților și împodobiți mormintele celor drepți30 și spuneți: «Dacă noi am fi trăit în zilele strămoșilor noștri, n-am fi fost părtași cu ei la vărsarea sângelui profeților!»31 Astfel, voi înșivă mărturisiți că sunteți urmașii celor ce i-au ucis pe profeți!32 Umpleți deci măsura strămoșilor voștri!

33 Șerpilor! Pui de vipere! Cum veți scăpa de condamnarea la Gheenăt?!34 De aceea, iată, vă trimit profeți, înțelepți și cărturari! Pe unii dintre ei îi veți omorî și îi veți răstigni, iar pe alții îi veți biciui în sinagogile voastre și îi veți persecuta din cetate în cetate,35 ca să vină asupra voastră tot sângele nevinovat, care a fost vărsat pe pământ, de la sângele lui Abel, cel drept, până la sângele lui Zaharia, fiul lui Berechiat, pe care l-ați ucis între Templu și altar!36 Adevărat vă spun că toate aceste lucruri vor veni peste această generație!

37 Ierusalime, Ierusalime, care-i omori pe profeți și-i ucizi cu pietre pe cei trimiși la tine! De câte ori am vrut să-ți adun copiii, așa cum își adună cloșca puii sub aripi, dar n-ați vrut!38 Iată că vi se lasă casa pustie!39 Căci vă spun că de acum încolo nu Mă veți mai vedea până când nu veți zice: «Binecuvântat este Cel Ce vine în Numele Domnului!»t“

Jesus Condemns the Pharisees //and the Teachers of //the Law of Moses

(Mark 12.38-40; Luke 11.37-52; 20.45-47)

1 Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
2 The Pharisees and the teachers of the Law are experts in the Law of Moses.

3 So obey everything they teach you, but don't do as they do. After all, they say one thing and do something else.
4 They pile heavy burdens on people's shoulders and won't lift a finger to help. 5 t Everything they do is just to show off in front of others. They even make a big show of wearing Scripture verses on their foreheads and arms, and they wear big tasselst for everyone to see. 6 They love the best seats at banquets and the front seats in the synagogues.

7 And when they are in the market, they like to have people greet them as their teachers.
8 But none of you should be called a teacher. You have only one teacher, and all of you are like brothers and sisters. 9 Don't call anyone on earth your father. All of you have the same Father in heaven. 10 None of you should be called the leader. The Messiah is your only leader. 11 t Whoever is the greatest should be the servant of the others.

12 t If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.

13-14 You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. You won't go in yourselves, and you keep others from going in.t

15 You Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You travel over land and sea to win one follower. And when you have done so, you make that person twice as fit for hell as you are.
16 You are in for trouble! You are supposed to lead others, but you are blind. You teach that it doesn't matter if a person swears by the temple. But you say it does matter if someone swears by the gold in the temple.

17 You blind fools! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
18 You also teach that it doesn't matter if a person swears by the altar. But you say it does matter if someone swears by the gift on the altar. 19 Are you blind? Which is more important, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 Anyone who swears by the altar also swears by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple also swears by God, who lives there.

22 t To swear by heaven is the same as swearing by God's throne and by the one who sits on that throne.
23  t You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your garden, such as mint, dill, and cumin. Yet you neglect the more important matters of the Law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These are the important things you should have done, though you should not have left the others undone either.

24 You blind leaders! You strain out a small fly but swallow a camel.
25 You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You wash the outside of your cups and dishes, while inside there is nothing but greed and selfishness.

26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of a cup, and then the outside will also be clean.
27  t You Pharisees and teachers are in for trouble! You're nothing but show-offs. You're like tombs that have been whitewashed.t On the outside they are beautiful, but inside they are full of bones and filth.

28 That's what you are like. Outside you look good, but inside you are evil and only pretend to be good.
29 You Pharisees and teachers are nothing but show-offs, and you're in for trouble! You build monuments for the prophets and decorate the tombs of good people. 30 And you claim you would not have taken part with your ancestors in killing the prophets. 31 But you prove you really are the relatives of the ones who killed the prophets. 32 So keep on doing everything they did.

33 t You are nothing but snakes and the children of snakes! How can you escape going to hell?
34 I will send to you prophets and wise people and experts in the Law of Moses. You will kill them or nail them to a cross or beat them in your synagogues or chase them from town to town. 35 t That's why you will be held guilty for the murder of every good person, beginning with the good man Abel. This also includes Barachiah's son Zechariah, t the man you murdered between the temple and the altar.

36 I can promise that you people living today will be punished for all these things!

39 t You won't see me again until you say,
“Blessed is the one who comes
in the name of the Lord.”
