Matteus 23
Jesus varnar för fariseerna och de skriftlärda
1 Sedan sade Jesus till folket och till sina lärjungar:2 "På Moses stolt sitter de skriftlärda och fariseerna.3 Allt vad de lär er skall ni därför göra och hålla, men efter deras gärningar skall ni inte handla. Ty de talar men handlar inte.4 De binder ihop tunga bördor och lägger dem på människornas axlar, men själva vill de inte ens med sitt finger flytta på dem.5 Och alla sina gärningar gör de för att människor skall se dem. De gör sina böneremmart breda och sina hörntofsart stora.6 De älskar hedersplatsen vid festmåltiderna och de främsta platserna i synagogorna,7 och de vill gärna att folk hälsar på dem på torgen och kallar dem rabbi.t8 Men låt ingen kalla er rabbi, ty en är er Mästare, och ni är alla bröder.9 Ni skall inte heller kalla någon på jorden er fader, ty en är er Fader, han som är i himlen.10 Ni skall inte låta någon kalla er lärare, ty en är er lärare, Kristus.11 Den som är störst bland er skall vara de andras tjänare.12 Var och en som upphöjer sig skall bli förödmjukad, och var och en som ödmjukar sig skall bli upphöjd.13 Ve er, skriftlärda och fariseer, ni hycklare! Ni stänger himmelriket för människor. Själva kommer ni inte in, och dem som försöker komma dit hindrar ni att komma in.t15 Ve er, skriftlärda och fariseer, ni hycklare! Ni far omkring över land och hav för att göra någon till en proselyt,t och när han har blivit det, gör ni honom till ett Gehennas barn, dubbelt värre än ni själva.16 Ve er, ni blinda ledare! Ni säger: Om någon svär vid templet, betyder det ingenting. Men om någon svär vid guldet i templet, då är han bunden vid sin ed.17 Ni blinda dårar, vilket är förmer, guldet eller templet som helgar guldet?18 Ni säger också: Om någon svär vid altaret, betyder det ingenting. Men om någon svär vid gåvan på altaret, då är han bunden vid sin ed.19 Ni blinda, vilket är förmer, gåvan eller altaret som helgar gåvan?20 Den som därför svär vid altaret, svär både vid det och vid allt som ligger på det.21 Och den som svär vid templet svär både vid det och vid honom som bor där.22 Och den som svär vid himlen svär både vid Guds tron och vid honom som sitter på den.23 Ve er, skriftlärda och fariseer, ni hycklare! Ni ger tionde av mynta, dill och kummin men försummar det som är viktigast i lagen: rätten, barmhärtigheten och troheten. Det ena borde ni göra utan att försumma det andra.24 Ni blinda ledare! Ni silar mygg och sväljer kameler.25 Ve er, skriftlärda och fariseer, ni hycklare! Ni rengör utsidan av bägaren och fatet, men inuti är de fulla av rofferi och omåttlighet.26 Du blinde farisé, gör först insidan av bägaren ren, så blir också utsidan ren.27 Ve er, skriftlärda och fariseer, ni hycklare! Ni liknar vitkalkade gravar.t Utanpå ser de vackra ut, men inuti är de fulla av de dödas ben och allt slags orenhet.28 Så är det också med er. Utanpå ser ni ut att vara rättfärdiga, men inuti är ni fulla av hyckleri och ondska.29 Ve er, skriftlärda och fariseer, ni hycklare! Ni bygger profeternas gravar och pryder de rättfärdigas minnesstenar30 och säger: Om vi hade levt på våra fäders tid, skulle vi inte ha varit med om att utgjuta profeternas blod.31 Därmed vittnar ni om er själva,t att ni är söner till dem som mördade profeterna.32 Fyll då också ni era fäders mått!t33 Ni ormar, ni huggormsyngel, hur skall ni kunna undgå att dömas till Gehenna?34 Därför sänder jag till er profeter, visa män och skriftlärda. Somliga av dem skall ni döda och korsfästa, andra skall ni gissla i era synagogor och förfölja från stad till stad.35 Så kommer över er allt rättfärdigt blod som är utgjutet på jorden, från den rättfärdige Abels blodt till Sakarias, Barakias sons, blod, honom som ni mördade mellan templet och altaret.36 Amen säger jag er: Allt detta skall komma över det här släktet.
Jesu klagan över Jerusalem
37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, du som mördar profeterna och stenar dem som är sända till dig. Hur ofta har jag inte velat samla dina barn, så som hönan samlar sina kycklingar under vingarna, men ni ville inte.38 Se, ert hus kommer att stå öde.39 Ty jag säger er: Härefter skall ni inte se mig, förrän ni säger: Välsignad är han som kommer i Herrens namn."
Matthew 23
1 Then spake Jesus to the multitudes and to his disciples,2 saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses seat:3 all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, these do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.4 Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.5 But all their works they do to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,6 and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,7 and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi.8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your teacher, and all ye are brethren.9 And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, even he who is in heaven.10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your master, even the Christ.11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye enter not in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering in to enter.14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers: therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.
15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.
16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, that say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.17 Ye fools and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that hath sanctified the gold?18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor.19 Ye blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?20 He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.21 And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.22 And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.24 Ye blind guides, that strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel!
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess.26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside thereof may become clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,30 and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we should not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.31 Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets.32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.33 Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?34 Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:35 that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
