متی 23

1 پھر عیسیٰ ہجوم اور اپنے شاگردوں سے مخاطب ہوا،2 ”شریعت کے علما اور فریسی موسیٰ کی کرسی پر بیٹھے ہیں۔3 چنانچہ جو کچھ وہ تم کو بتاتے ہیں وہ کرو اور اُس کے مطابق زندگی گزارو۔ لیکن جو کچھ وہ کرتے ہیں وہ نہ کرو، کیونکہ وہ خود اپنی تعلیم کے مطابق زندگی نہیں گزارتے۔4 وہ بھاری گٹھڑیاں باندھ باندھ کر لوگوں کے کندھوں پر رکھ دیتے ہیں، لیکن خود اُنہیں اُٹھانے کے لئے ایک اُنگلی تک ہلانے کو تیار نہیں ہوتے۔5 جو بھی کرتے ہیں دکھاوے کے لئے کرتے ہیں۔ جو تعویذ وہ اپنے بازوؤں اور پیشانیوں پر باندھتے اور جو پُھندنے اپنے لباس سے لگاتے ہیں وہ خاص بڑے ہوتے ہیں۔6 اُن کی بس ایک ہی خواہش ہوتی ہے کہ ضیافتوں اور عبادت خانوں میں عزت کی کرسیوں پر بیٹھ جائیں۔7 جب لوگ بازاروں میں سلام کر کے اُن کی عزت کرتے اور ’اُستاد‘ کہہ کر اُن سے بات کرتے ہیں تو پھر وہ خوش ہو جاتے ہیں۔8 لیکن تم کو اُستاد نہیں کہلانا چاہئے، کیونکہ تمہارا صرف ایک ہی اُستاد ہے جبکہ تم سب بھائی ہو۔9 اور دنیا میں کسی کو ’باپ‘ کہہ کر اُس سے بات نہ کرو، کیونکہ تمہارا ایک ہی باپ ہے اور وہ آسمان پر ہے۔10 ہادی نہ کہلانا کیونکہ تمہارا صرف ایک ہی ہادی ہے یعنی المسیح۔11 تم میں سے سب سے بڑا شخص تمہارا خادم ہو گا۔12 کیونکہ جو بھی اپنے آپ کو سرفراز کرے گا اُسے پست کیا جائے گا اور جو اپنے آپ کو پست کرے گا اُسے سرفراز کیا جائے گا۔13 شریعت کے عالمو اور فریسیو، تم پر افسوس! ریاکارو! تم لوگوں کے سامنے آسمان کی بادشاہی پر تالا لگاتے ہو۔ نہ تم خود داخل ہوتے ہو، نہ اُنہیں داخل ہونے دیتے ہو جو اندر جانا چاہتے ہیں۔14 [شریعت کے عالمو اور فریسیو، تم پر افسوس! ریاکارو! تم بیواؤں کے گھروں پر قبضہ کر لیتے اور دکھاوے کے لئے لمبی لمبی نماز پڑھتے ہو۔ اِس لئے تمہیں زیادہ سزا ملے گی۔]15 شریعت کے عالمو اور فریسیو، تم پر افسوس! ریاکارو! تم ایک نومرید بنانے کی خاطر خشکی اور تری کے لمبے سفر کرتے ہو۔ اور جب اِس میں کامیاب ہو جاتے ہو تو تم اُس شخص کو اپنی نسبت جہنم کا دُگنا شریر فرزند بنا دیتے ہو۔16 اندھے راہنماؤ، تم پر افسوس! تم کہتے ہو، ’اگر کوئی بیت المُقدّس کی قَسم کھائے تو ضروری نہیں کہ وہ اُسے پورا کرے۔ لیکن اگر وہ بیت المُقدّس کے سونے کی قَسم کھائے تو لازم ہے کہ اُسے پورا کرے۔‘17 اندھے احمقو! زیادہ اہم کیا ہے، سونا یا بیت المُقدّس جو سونے کو مخصوص و مُقدّس بناتا ہے؟18 تم یہ بھی کہتے ہو، ’اگر کوئی قربان گاہ کی قَسم کھائے تو ضروری نہیں کہ وہ اُسے پورا کرے۔ لیکن اگر وہ قربان گاہ پر پڑے ہدیئے کی قَسم کھائے تو لازم ہے کہ وہ اُسے پورا کرے۔‘19 اندھو! زیادہ اہم کیا ہے، ہدیہ یا قربان گاہ جو ہدیئے کو مخصوص و مُقدّس بناتی ہے؟20 غرض، جو قربان گاہ کی قَسم کھاتا ہے وہ اُن تمام چیزوں کی قَسم بھی کھاتا ہے جو اُس پر پڑی ہیں۔21 اور جو بیت المُقدّس کی قَسم کھاتا ہے وہ اُس کی بھی قَسم کھاتا ہے جو اُس میں سکونت کرتا ہے۔22 اور جو آسمان کی قَسم کھاتا ہے وہ اللہ کے تخت کی اور اُس پر بیٹھنے والے کی قَسم بھی کھاتا ہے۔23 شریعت کے عالمو اور فریسیو، تم پر افسوس! ریاکارو! گو تم بڑی احتیاط سے پودینے، اجوائن اور زیرے کا دسواں حصہ ہدیئے کے لئے مخصوص کرتے ہو، لیکن تم نے شریعت کی زیادہ اہم باتوں کو نظرانداز کر دیا ہے یعنی انصاف، رحم اور وفاداری کو۔ لازم ہے کہ تم یہ کام بھی کرو اور پہلا بھی نہ چھوڑو۔24 اندھے راہنماؤ! تم اپنے مشروب چھانتے ہو تاکہ غلطی سے مچھر نہ پی لیا جائے، لیکن ساتھ ساتھ اونٹ کو نگل لیتے ہو۔25 شریعت کے عالمو اور فریسیو، تم پر افسوس! ریاکارو! تم باہر سے ہر پیالے اور برتن کی صفائی کرتے ہو، لیکن اندر سے وہ لُوٹ مار اور عیش پرستی سے بھرے ہوتے ہیں۔26 اندھے فریسیو، پہلے اندر سے پیالے اور برتن کی صفائی کرو، اور پھر وہ باہر سے بھی پاک صاف ہو جائیں گے۔27 شریعت کے عالمو اور فریسیو، تم پر افسوس! ریاکارو! تم ایسی قبروں سے مطابقت رکھتے ہو جن پر سفیدی کی گئی ہو۔ گو وہ باہر سے دل کش نظر آتی ہیں، لیکن اندر سے وہ مُردوں کی ہڈیوں اور ہر قسم کی ناپاکی سے بھری ہوتی ہیں۔28 تم بھی باہر سے راست باز دکھائی دیتے ہو جبکہ اندر سے تم ریاکاری اور بےدینی سے معمور ہوتے ہو۔29 شریعت کے عالمو اور فریسیو، تم پر افسوس! ریاکارو! تم نبیوں کے لئے قبریں تعمیر کرتے اور راست بازوں کے مزار سجاتے ہو۔30 اور تم کہتے ہو، ’اگر ہم اپنے باپ دادا کے زمانے میں زندہ ہوتے تو نبیوں کو قتل کرنے میں شریک نہ ہوتے۔‘31 لیکن یہ کہنے سے تم اپنے خلاف گواہی دیتے ہو کہ تم نبیوں کے قاتلوں کی اولاد ہو۔32 اب جاؤ، وہ کام مکمل کرو جو تمہارے باپ دادا نے ادھورا چھوڑ دیا تھا۔33 سانپو، زہریلے سانپوں کے بچو! تم کس طرح جہنم کی سزا سے بچ پاؤ گے؟34 اِس لئے مَیں نبیوں، دانش مندوں اور شریعت کے عالموں کو تمہارے پاس بھیج دیتا ہوں۔ اُن میں سے بعض کو تم قتل اور مصلوب کرو گے اور بعض کو اپنے عبادت خانوں میں لے جا کر کوڑے لگواؤ گے اور شہر بہ شہر اُن کا تعاقب کرو گے۔35 نتیجے میں تم تمام راست بازوں کے قتل کے ذمہ دار ٹھہرو گے — راست باز ہابیل کے قتل سے لے کر زکریاہ بن برکیاہ کے قتل تک جسے تم نے بیت المُقدّس کے دروازے اور اُس کے صحن میں موجود قربان گاہ کے درمیان مار ڈالا۔36 مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں کہ یہ سب کچھ اِسی نسل پر آئے گا۔37 ہائے یروشلم، یروشلم! تُو جو نبیوں کو قتل کرتی اور اپنے پاس بھیجے ہوئے پیغمبروں کو سنگسار کرتی ہے۔ مَیں نے کتنی ہی بار تیری اولاد کو جمع کرنا چاہا، بالکل اُسی طرح جس طرح مرغی اپنے بچوں کو اپنے پَروں تلے جمع کر کے محفوظ کر لیتی ہے۔ لیکن تم نے نہ چاہا۔38 اب تمہارے گھر کو ویران و سنسان چھوڑا جائے گا۔39 کیونکہ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں، تم مجھے اُس وقت تک دوبارہ نہیں دیکھو گے جب تک تم نہ کہو کہ مبارک ہے وہ جو رب کے نام سے آتا ہے۔“

Matthew 23

1 Then spake Jesus to the multitudes and to his disciples,2 saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses seat:3 all things therefore whatsoever they bid you, these do and observe: but do not ye after their works; for they say, and do not.4 Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.5 But all their works they do to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,6 and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,7 and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi.8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your teacher, and all ye are brethren.9 And call no man your father on the earth: for one is your Father, even he who is in heaven.10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your master, even the Christ.11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye enter not in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering in to enter.14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers: therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.

15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.

16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, that say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.17 Ye fools and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that hath sanctified the gold?18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor.19 Ye blind: for which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?20 He therefore that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.21 And he that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.22 And he that sweareth by the heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.24 Ye blind guides, that strain out the gnat, and swallow the camel!

25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full from extortion and excess.26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside thereof may become clean also.

27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,30 and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we should not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.31 Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets.32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.33 Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?34 Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them shall ye kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:35 that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
