La parabole des dix jeunes filles
1 « Alors le Royaume des cieux ressemblera à l’histoire de dix jeunes filles qui prirent leurs lampes et sortirent pour aller à la rencontre du marié. 2 Cinq d’entre elles étaient imprévoyantes et cinq étaient raisonnables. 3 Celles qui étaient imprévoyantes prirent leurs lampes mais sans emporter une réserve d’huile. 4 En revanche, celles qui étaient raisonnables emportèrent des flacons d’huile avec leurs lampes. 5 Or, le marié tardait à venir ; les jeunes filles eurent toutes sommeil et s’endormirent. 6 A minuit, un cri se fit entendre : “Voici le marié ! Sortez à sa rencontre !” 7 Alors ces dix jeunes filles se réveillèrent et se mirent à préparer leurs lampes. 8 Les imprévoyantes demandèrent aux raisonnables : “Donnez-nous un peu de votre huile, car nos lampes s’éteignent.” 9 Les raisonnables répondirent : “Non, car il n’y en aurait pas assez pour nous et pour vous. Vous feriez mieux d’aller au magasin en acheter pour vous.” 10 Les imprévoyantes partirent donc acheter de l’huile, mais pendant ce temps, le marié arriva. Les cinq jeunes filles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle de mariage et l’on ferma la porte à clé. 11 Plus tard, les autres jeunes filles arrivèrent et s’écrièrent : “Maître, maître, ouvre-nous !” 12 Mais le marié répondit : “Je vous le déclare, c’est la vérité : je ne vous connais pas.”
13 Veillez donc, ajouta Jésus, car vous ne connaissez ni le jour ni l’heure. »La parabole des trois serviteurs

14 « Il en sera comme d’un homme qui allait partir en voyage : il appela ses serviteurs et leur confia ses biens. 15 Il remit à l’un cinq cents pièces d’or, à un autre deux cents, à un troisième cent : à chacun selon ses capacités. Puis il partit. 16 Le serviteur qui avait reçu les cinq cents pièces d’or s’en alla aussitôt faire du commerce avec cet argent et gagna cinq cents autres pièces d’or. 17 Celui qui avait reçu deux cents pièces agit de même et gagna deux cents autres pièces.
18 Mais celui qui avait reçu cent pièces s’en alla creuser un trou dans la terre et y cacha l’argent de son maître.
19 « Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs revint et se mit à régler ses comptes avec eux. 20 Celui qui avait reçu cinq cents pièces d’or s’approcha et présenta les cinq cents autres pièces en disant : “Maître, tu m’avais remis cinq cents pièces d’or. J’en ai gagné cinq cents autres : les voici.” 21 Son maître lui dit : “C’est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur. Tu as été fidèle dans des choses qui ont peu de valeur, je te confierai donc celles qui ont beaucoup de valeur. Viens te réjouir avec moi.” 22 Le serviteur qui avait reçu les deux cents pièces s’approcha ensuite et dit : “Maître, tu m’avais remis deux cents pièces d’or. J’en ai gagné deux cents autres : les voici.” 23 Son maître lui dit : “C’est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur. Tu as été fidèle dans des choses qui ont peu de valeur, je te confierai donc celles qui ont beaucoup de valeur. Viens te réjouir avec moi.” 24 Enfin, le serviteur qui avait reçu les cent pièces s’approcha et dit : “Maître, je te connaissais comme un homme dur : tu moissonnes où tu n’as pas semé, tu récoltes où tu n’as rien planté. 25 J’ai eu peur et je suis allé cacher ton argent dans la terre. Eh bien, voici ce qui t’appartient.” 26 Son maître lui répondit : “Mauvais serviteur, paresseux ! Tu savais que je moissonne où je n’ai pas semé, que je récolte où je n’ai rien planté ? 27 Eh bien, tu aurais dû placer mon argent à la banque et, à mon retour, j’aurais retiré mon bien avec les intérêts. 28 Enlevez-lui donc les cent pièces d’or et remettez-les à celui qui en a mille. 29 Car quiconque a quelque chose recevra davantage et il sera dans l’abondance ; mais à celui qui n’a rien, on enlèvera même le peu qui pourrait lui rester.
30 Quant à ce serviteur bon à rien, jetez-le dehors, dans le noir, là où l’on pleure et grince des dents.” »Le jugement dernier
31 « Quand le Fils de l’homme viendra dans sa gloire avec tous les anges, il siégera sur son trône royal. 32 Tous les peuples de la terre seront assemblés devant lui et il séparera les gens les uns des autres comme le berger sépare les moutons des chèvres ; 33 il placera les moutons à sa droite et les chèvres à sa gauche. 34 Alors le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite : “Venez, vous qui êtes bénis par mon Père, et recevez le Royaume qui a été préparé pour vous depuis la création du monde. 35 Car j’ai eu faim et vous m’avez donné à manger ; j’ai eu soif et vous m’avez donné à boire ; j’étais étranger et vous m’avez accueilli chez vous ; 36 j’étais nu et vous m’avez habillé ; j’étais malade et vous avez pris soin de moi ; j’étais en prison et vous êtes venus me voir.” 37 Ceux qui ont fait la volonté de Dieu lui répondront alors : “Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu affamé et t’avons-nous donné à manger, ou assoiffé et t’avons-nous donné à boire ? 38 Quand t’avons-nous vu étranger et t’avons-nous accueilli chez nous, ou nu et t’avons-nous habillé ? 39 Quand t’avons-nous vu malade ou en prison et sommes-nous allés te voir ?”
40 Le roi leur répondra : “Je vous le déclare, c’est la vérité : toutes les fois que vous l’avez fait à l’un de ces plus petits de mes frères, c’est à moi que vous l’avez fait.”
41 « Ensuite, le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa gauche : “Allez-vous-en loin de moi, maudits ! Allez dans le feu éternel qui a été préparé pour le diable et ses anges ! 42 Car j’ai eu faim et vous ne m’avez pas donné à manger ; j’ai eu soif et vous ne m’avez pas donné à boire ; 43 j’étais étranger et vous ne m’avez pas accueilli ; j’étais nu et vous ne m’avez pas habillé ; j’étais malade et en prison et vous n’avez pas pris soin de moi.” 44 Ils lui répondront alors : “Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu affamé, ou assoiffé, ou étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison et ne t’avons-nous pas secouru ?” 45 Le roi leur répondra : “Je vous le déclare, c’est la vérité : toutes les fois que vous ne l’avez pas fait à l’un de ces plus petits, vous ne l’avez pas fait à moi non plus.” 46 Et ils iront subir la peine éternelle, tandis que ceux qui ont fait la volonté de Dieu iront à la vie éternellet. »

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.2 And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.3 For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them:4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5 Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.6 But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him.7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.9 But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.10 And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut.11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.13 Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.
14 For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey.16 Straightway he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents.17 In like manner he also that received the two gained other two.18 But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.19 Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them.20 And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents.21 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.22 And he also that received the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents.23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.24 And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter;25 and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own.26 But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter;27 thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest.28 Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents.29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away.30 And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
31 But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory:32 and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats;33 and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:35 for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;36 naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me.37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink?38 And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?39 And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, even these least, ye did it unto me.41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:42 for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink;43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.44 Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me.46 And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life.
