La parabole des dix vierges
1 tAlors le règne des cieux sera comme ces dix vierges qui avaient pris leurs lampes pour aller au-devant du marié. 2 tCinq d’entre elles étaient folles, et les cinq autres étaient avisées. 3 Les folles, en prenant leur lampe, n’avaient pas pris d’huile avec elles ; 4 tmais celles qui étaient avisées avaient pris, avec leur lampe, de l’huile dans un récipient. 5 tComme le marié tardait, toutes s’assoupirent et s’endormirent. 6 tAu milieu de la nuit, il y eut un cri : « Voici le marié, sortez à sa rencontre ! » 7 tAlors toutes ces vierges se réveillèrent et préparèrent leurs lampes. 8 tLes folles dirent à celles qui étaient avisées : « Donnez-nous de votre huile, nos lampes s’éteignent ! » 9 tCelles qui étaient avisées répondirent : « Il n’y en aurait jamais assez pour nous et pour vous ; allez plutôt vous en acheter chez ceux qui en vendent ! » 10 tPendant qu’elles allaient en acheter, le marié arriva ; celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle des noces, et la porte fut fermée. 11 tPlus tard, les autres vierges arrivèrent aussi et dirent : « Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvre-nous ! »
12 tMais il répondit : «Amen, je vous le dis, je ne vous connais pas. »

Lc 19.12-27
14 tIl en sera comme d’un homme qui, sur le point de partir en voyage, appela ses esclaves et leur confia ses biens. 15 tIl donna cinq talents à l’un, deux à l’autre, et un au troisième, à chacun selon ses capacités, et il partit en voyage. Aussitôt 16 tcelui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s’en alla les faire valoir et en gagna cinq autres. 17 tDe même, celui qui avait reçu les deux talents en gagna deux autres. 18 tCelui qui n’en avait reçu qu’un alla faire un trou dans la terre et cacha l’argent de son maître. 19 tLongtemps après, le maître de ces esclaves arrive et leur fait rendre compte. 20 Celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents vint apporter cinq autres talents et dit : Maître, tu m’avais confié cinq talents ; en voici cinq autres que j’ai gagnés. 21 tSon maître lui dit : C’est bien ! Tu es un bon esclave, digne de confiance ! Tu as été digne de confiance pour une petite affaire, je te confierai de grandes responsabilités ; entre dans la joie de ton maître. 22 Celui qui avait reçu les deux talents vint aussi et dit : Maître, tu m’avais confié deux talents, en voici deux autres que j’ai gagnés. 23 tSon maître lui dit : C’est bien ! Tu es un bon esclave, digne de confiance ! Tu as été digne de confiance pour une petite affaire, je te confierai de grandes responsabilités ; entre dans la joie de ton maître. 24 tCelui qui n’avait reçu qu’un talent vint ensuite et dit : Maître, je savais que tu es un homme dur : tu moissonnes où tu n’as pas semé, et tu récoltes où tu n’as pas répandu ; 25 tj’ai eu peur, et je suis allé cacher ton talent dans la terre : le voici ; prends ce qui est à toi. 26 tSon maître lui répondit : Esclave mauvais et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n’ai pas semé et que je récolte où je n’ai pas répandu ? 27 Alors tu aurais dû placer mon argent chez les banquiers, et à mon arrivée j’aurais récupéré ce qui est à moi avec un intérêt. 28 Enlevez-lui donc le talent, et donnez-le à celui qui a les dix talents. 29 t– Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l’abondance, mais à celui qui n’a pas on enlèvera même ce qu’il a. –
30 tEt l’esclave inutile, chassez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors ; c’est là qu’il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.Le jugement dernier
31 tLorsque le Fils de l’homme viendra dans sa gloire, avec tous les anges, il s’assiéra sur son trône glorieux. 32 tToutes les nations seront rassemblées devant lui. Il séparera les uns des autres comme le berger sépare les moutons des chèvres : 33 il mettra les moutons à sa droite et les chèvres à sa gauche. 34 tAlors le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite : « Venez, vous qui êtes bénis de mon Père ; héritez le royaume qui a été préparé pour vous depuis la fondation du monde. 35 tCar j’ai eu faim et vous m’avez donné à manger ; j’ai eu soif et vous m’avez donné à boire ; j’étais étranger et vous m’avez recueilli ; 36 tj’étais nu et vous m’avez vêtu ; j’étais malade et vous m’avez visité ; j’étais en prison et vous êtes venus me voir. » 37 tAlors les justes lui répondront : « Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu avoir faim, et t’avons-nous donné à manger ? – ou avoir soif, et t’avons-nous donné à boire ? 38 Quand t’avons-nous vu étranger, et t’avons-nous recueilli ? – ou nu, et t’avons-nous vêtu ? 39 Quand t’avons-nous vu malade, ou en prison, et sommes-nous venus te voir ? » 40 tEt le roi leur répondra : «Amen, je vous le dis, dans la mesure où vous avez fait cela pour l’un de ces plus petits, l’un de mes frères, c’est à moi que vous l’avez fait. » 41 tEnsuite il dira à ceux qui seront à sa gauche : « Allez-vous-en loin de moi, maudits, dans le feu éternel préparé pour le diable et pour ses anges. 42 Car j’ai eu faim, et vous ne m’avez pas donné à manger ; j’ai eu soif, et vous ne m’avez pas donné à boire. 43 J’étais étranger, et vous ne m’avez pas recueilli ; j’étais nu, et vous ne m’avez pas vêtu ; j’étais malade et en prison, et vous ne m’avez pas visité. » 44 Alors ils répondront, eux aussi : « Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu avoir faim ou soif, étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, sans nous mettre à ton service ? 45 tAlors il leur répondra :Amen, je vous le dis, dans la mesure où vous n’avez pas fait cela pour l’un de ces plus petits, c’est à moi que vous ne l’avez pas fait. » 46 tEt ceux-ci iront au châtiment éternel, mais les justes, à la vie éternelle.

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.2 And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.3 For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them:4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5 Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.6 But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him.7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.9 But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.10 And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut.11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.13 Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.
14 For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey.16 Straightway he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents.17 In like manner he also that received the two gained other two.18 But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.19 Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them.20 And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents.21 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.22 And he also that received the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents.23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.24 And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter;25 and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own.26 But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter;27 thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest.28 Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents.29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away.30 And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
31 But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory:32 and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats;33 and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:35 for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;36 naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me.37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink?38 And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?39 And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, even these least, ye did it unto me.41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:42 for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink;43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.44 Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me.46 And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life.
