열 처녀의 비유

1 “그런데, 하늘 나라는 저마다 등불을 들고 신랑을 맞으러 나간 열 처녀에 비길 수 있을 것이다. 2 그 가운데서 다섯은 어리석고, 다섯은 슬기로웠다. 3 어리석은 처녀들은 등불은 가졌으나, 기름은 갖고 있지 않았다. 4 그러나 슬기로운 처녀들은 자기들의 등불과 함께 통에 기름도 마련하였다. 5 신랑이 늦어지니, 처녀들은 모두 졸다가 잠이 들었다. 6 그런데 한밤중에 외치는 소리가 났다. ‘보아라, 신랑이다. 나와서 맞이하여라.’ 7 그 때에 그 처녀들이 모두 일어나서, 제 등불을 손질하였다. 8 미련한 처녀들이 슬기로운 처녀들에게 말하기를 ‘우리 등불이 꺼져 가니, 너희의 기름을 좀 나누어 다오’ 하였다. 9 그러나 슬기로운 처녀들이 대답을 하였다. ‘그렇게 하면, 우리에게나 너희에게나 다 모자랄 터이니, 안 된다. 차라리 기름 장수들에게 가서, 사서 써라.’ 10 미련한 처녀들이 기름을 사러 간 사이에 신랑이 왔다. 준비하고 있던 처녀들은 신랑과 함께 혼인 잔치에 들어가고, 문은 닫혔다. 11 그 뒤에 나머지 처녀들이 와서 ‘주님, 주님, 문을 열어 주십시오’ 하고 애원하였다. 12 그러나 신랑이 대답하기를 ‘내가 진정으로 너희에게 말한다. 나는 너희를 알지 못한다’ 하였다. 13 그러므로 깨어 있어라. 너희는 t그 날과 그 시각을 알지 못하기 때문이다.”

달란트 비유

(눅 19:11-27)

14 “또 하늘 나라는 이런 사정과 같다. 어떤 사람이 여행을 떠나면서, 자기 종들을 불러서, 자기의 재산을 그들에게 맡겼다. 15 그는 각 사람의 능력을 따라, 한 사람에게는 다섯 t달란트를 주고, 또 한 사람에게는 두 달란트를 주고, 또 다른 한 사람에게는 한 달란트를 주고 떠났다. 16 다섯 달란트를 받은 사람은 곧 가서, 그것으로 장사를 하여, 다섯 달란트를 더 벌었다. 17 두 달란트를 받은 사람도 그와 같이 하여, 두 달란트를 더 벌었다. 18 그러나 한 달란트 받은 사람은 가서, 땅을 파고, 주인의 돈을 숨겼다. 19 오랜 뒤에, 그 종들의 주인이 돌아와서, 그들과 셈을 하게 되었다. 20 다섯 달란트를 받은 사람은 다섯 달란트를 더 가지고 와서 말하기를 ‘주인님, 주인께서 다섯 달란트를 내게 맡기셨는데, 보십시오, 다섯 달란트를 더 벌었습니다’ 하였다. 21 그의 주인이 그에게 말하였다. ‘잘했다! 착하고 신실한 종아. 네가 적은 일에 신실하였으니, 이제 내가 많은 일을 네게 맡기겠다. 와서, 주인과 함께 기쁨을 누려라.’ 22 두 달란트를 받은 사람도 다가와서 ‘주인님, 주인님께서 두 달란트를 내게 맡기셨는데, 보십시오, 두 달란트를 더 벌었습니다’ 하고 말하였다. 23 그의 주인이 그에게 말하였다. ‘잘했다, 착하고 신실한 종아! 네가 적은 일에 신실하였으니, 이제 내가 많은 일을 네게 맡기겠다. 와서, 주인과 함께 기쁨을 누려라.’ 24 그러나 한 달란트를 받은 사람은 다가와서 말하였다. ‘주인님, 나는, 주인이 굳은 분이시라, 심지 않은 데서 거두시고, 뿌리지 않은 데서 모으시는 줄로 알고, 25 무서워하여 물러가서, 그 달란트를 땅에 숨겨 두었습니다. 보십시오, 여기에 그 돈이 있으니, 받으십시오.’ 26 그러자 그의 주인이 그에게 말하였다. ‘악하고 게으른 종아, 너는 내가 심지 않은 데서 거두고, 뿌리지 않은 데서 모으는 줄 알았다. 27 그렇다면, 너는 내 돈을 돈놀이 하는 사람에게 맡겼어야 했다. 그랬더라면, 내가 와서, 내 돈에 이자를 붙여 받았을 것이다. 28 그에게서 그 한 달란트를 빼앗아서, 열 달란트 가진 사람에게 주어라. 29 가진 사람에게는 더 주어서 넘치게 하고, 갖지 못한 사람에게서는 있는 것마저 빼앗을 것이다. 30 이 쓸모 없는 종을 바깥 어두운 데로 내쫓아라. 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 가는 일이 있을 것이다.’”

최후의 심판

31 “인자가 모든 천사와 더불어 영광에 둘러싸여서 올 때에, 그는 자기의 영광의 보좌에 앉을 것이다. 32 그는 모든 민족을 그의 앞에 불러모아, 목자가 양과 염소를 가르듯이 그들을 갈라서, 33 양은 그의 오른쪽에, 염소는 그의 왼쪽에 세울 것이다. 34 그 때에 임금은 자기 오른쪽에 있는 사람들에게 말하기를 ‘내 아버지께 복을 받은 사람들아, 와서, 창세 때로부터 너희를 위하여 준비한 이 나라를 차지하여라. 35 너희는, 내가 주릴 때에 내게 먹을 것을 주었고, 목마를 때에 마실 것을 주었으며, 나그네로 있을 때에 영접하였고, 36 헐벗을 때에 입을 것을 주었고, 병들어 있을 때에 돌보아 주었고, 감옥에 갇혀 있을 때에 찾아 주었다’ 할 것이다. 37 그 때에 의인들은 그에게 대답하기를 ‘주님, 우리가 언제, 주님께서 주리신 것을 보고 잡수실 것을 드리고, 목마르신 것을 보고 마실 것을 드리고, 38 나그네 되신 것을 보고 영접하고, 헐벗으신 것을 보고 입을 것을 드리고, 39 언제 병드시거나 감옥에 갇히신 것을 보고 찾아갔습니까?’ 하고 말할 것이다. 40 임금이 그들에게 말하기를 ‘내가 진정으로 너희에게 말한다. 너희가 여기 내 t형제자매 가운데, 지극히 보잘 것 없는 사람 하나에게 한 것이 곧 내게 한 것이다’ 할 것이다. 41 그 때에 임금은 왼쪽에 있는 사람들에게도 말할 것이다. ‘저주받은 자들아, 내게서 떠나서, 악마와 그 졸개들을 가두려고 준비한 영원한 불 속으로 들어가라. 42 너희는 내가 주릴 때에 내게 먹을 것을 주지 않았고, 목마를 때에 마실 것을 주지 않았고, 43 나그네로 있을 때에 영접하지 않았고, 헐벗었을 때에 입을 것을 주지 않았고, 병들어 있을 때나 감옥에 갇혀 있을 때에 찾아 주지 않았다.’ 44 그 때에 그들도 이렇게 말할 것이다. ‘주님, 우리가 언제 주님께서 굶주리신 것이나, 목마르신 것이나, 나그네 되신 것이나, 헐벗으신 것이나, 병드신 것이나, 감옥에 갇히신 것을 보고도 돌보아 드리지 않았다는 것입니까?’ 45 그 때에 임금이 그들에게 대답하기를 ‘내가 진정으로 너희에게 말한다. 여기 이 사람들 가운데서 지극히 보잘 것 없는 사람 하나에게 하지 않은 것이 곧 내게 하지 않은 것이다’ 하고 말할 것이다. 46 그리하여, 그들은 영원한 형벌로 들어가고, 의인들은 영원한 생명으로 들어갈 것이다.”

MATTHEW 25

A Story about Ten Young Women

1  t The kingdom of heaven is like what happened one night when ten young women took their oil lamps and went to a wedding to meet the groom.t 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps, but no extra oil.

4 The ones who were wise took along extra oil for their lamps.
5 The groom was late arriving, and the young women became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 Then in the middle of the night someone shouted, “Here's the groom! Come to meet him!”
7 When the women got up and started getting their lamps ready,

8 the foolish ones said to the others, “Let us have some of your oil! Our lamps are going out.”

9 Those who were wise answered, “There's not enough oil for all of us! Go and buy some for yourselves.”
10 While the foolish ones were on their way to get some oil, the groom arrived. The five who were ready went into the wedding, and the doors were closed.

11 t Later the others returned and shouted, “Sir, sir! Open the door for us!”

12 But the groom replied, “I don't even know you!”

13 So, my disciples, always be ready! You don't know the day or the time when all this will happen.

A Story //about Three Servants

(Luke 19.11-27)

14  t The kingdom is also like what happened when a man went away and put his three servants in charge of all he owned.

15 The man knew what each servant could do. So he handed 5,000 coins to the first servant, 2,000 to the second, and 1,000 to the third. Then he left the country.
16 As soon as the man had gone, the servant with the 5,000 coins used them to earn 5,000 more. 17 The servant who had 2,000 coins did the same with his money and earned 2,000 more.

18 But the servant with 1,000 coins dug a hole and hid his master's money in the ground.
19 Some time later the master of those servants returned. He called them in and asked what they had done with his money.

20 The servant who had been given 5,000 coins brought them in with the 5,000 that he had earned. He said, “Sir, you gave me 5,000 coins, and I have earned 5,000 more.”

21 “Wonderful!” his master replied. “You are a good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness!”

22 Next, the servant who had been given 2,000 coins came in and said, “Sir, you gave me 2,000 coins, and I have earned 2,000 more.”

23 “Wonderful!” his master replied. “You are a good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness!”
24 The servant who had been given 1,000 coins then came in and said, “Sir, I know that you are hard to work for. You harvest what you don't plant and gather crops where you haven't scattered seed.

25 I was frightened and went out and hid your money in the ground. Here is every single coin!”
26 The master of the servant told him, “You are lazy and good-for-nothing! You know I harvest what I don't plant and gather crops where I haven't scattered seed.

27 You could have at least put my money in the bank, so I could have earned interest on it.”
28 Then the master said, “Now your money will be taken away and given to the servant with 10,000 coins! 29 t Everyone who has something will be given more, and they will have more than enough. But everything will be taken from those who don't have anything.

30 t You are a worthless servant, and you will be thrown out into the dark where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain.”

The Final Judgment

31  t When the Son of Man comes in his glory with all his angels, he will sit on his royal throne.

32 The people of all nations will be brought before him, and he will separate them, as shepherds separate their sheep from their goats.
33 He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 Then the king will say to those on his right, “My father has blessed you! Come and receive the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world was created. 35 t When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me,

36 and when I was naked, you gave me clothes to wear. When I was sick, you took care of me, and when I was in jail, you visited me.”
37 Then the ones who pleased the Lord will ask, “When did we give you something to eat or drink? 38 When did we welcome you as a stranger or give you clothes to wear

39 or visit you while you were sick or in jail?”

40 The king will answer, “Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me.”
41 Then the king will say to those on his left, “Get away from me! You are under God's curse. Go into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! 42 I was hungry, but you did not give me anything to eat, and I was thirsty, but you did not give me anything to drink.

43 I was a stranger, but you did not welcome me, and I was naked, but you did not give me any clothes to wear. I was sick and in jail, but you did not take care of me.”

44 Then the people will ask, “Lord, when did we fail to help you when you were hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in jail?”

45 The king will say to them, “Whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you failed to do it for me.”
46  t Then Jesus said, “Those people will be punished forever. But the ones who pleased God will have eternal life.”
