Las diez muchachas

1 »En el reino de Dios pasará lo mismo que sucedió en una boda. Cuando ya era de noche, diez muchachas tomaron sus lámparas de aceite y salieron a recibir al novio.2 Cinco de ellas eran descuidadas, y las otras cinco, responsables.3 Las cinco descuidadas no llevaron aceite suficiente,

4 pero las cinco responsables llevaron aceite para llenar sus lámparas de nuevo.
5 »Como el novio tardó mucho en llegar, a las diez muchachas les dio sueño y se durmieron.

6 Como a la media noche, se oyeron gritos: “¡Ya viene el novio, salgan a recibirlo!”
7 »Las muchachas se levantaron y comenzaron a preparar sus lámparas.

8 Entonces las cinco muchachas descuidadas dijeron a las responsables: “Compartan con nosotras el aceite que ustedes traen, porque nuestras lámparas se están apagando”.

9 »Las cinco responsables contestaron: “No tenemos bastante aceite para darles también a ustedes. Es mejor que vayan a comprarlo.”
10 »Mientras las cinco muchachas descuidadas fueron a comprar aceite, llegó el novio. Entonces, las cinco muchachas responsables entraron con él a la fiesta de bodas, y la puerta se cerró.

11 Cuando las cinco descuidadas volvieron, encontraron todo cerrado y gritaron: “¡Señor, Señor, ábranos la puerta!”

12 »Pero el novio les contestó: “No sé quiénes son ustedes. No las conozco.”

13 »Por eso ustedes, mis discípulos , deben estar siempre alerta, porque no saben ni el día ni la hora en que yo volveré.

Los tres empleados

14 »En el reino de Dios pasará lo mismo que sucedió cierta vez, cuando un hombre decidió irse de viaje. Llamó a sus empleados y les encargó su dinero.

15 El hombre sabía muy bien lo que cada uno podía hacer. Por eso, a uno de ellos le entregó cinco mil monedas, a otro dos mil, y a otro mil. Luego se fue de viaje.
16 »El empleado que había recibido cinco mil monedas hizo negocios con ellas, y logró ganar otras cinco mil.17 El que recibió dos mil monedas ganó otras dos mil.

18 Pero el que recibió mil monedas fue y las escondió bajo tierra.
19 »Mucho tiempo después, el hombre que se había ido de viaje regresó, y quiso arreglar cuentas con sus empleados.

20 Llegó el que había recibido cinco mil monedas, se las entregó junto con otras cinco mil y le dijo: “Señor, usted me dio cinco mil monedas, y aquí tiene otras cinco mil que yo gané.”

21 »El hombre le dijo: “¡Excelente! Eres un empleado bueno, y se puede confiar en ti. Ya que cuidaste bien lo poco que te di, ahora voy a encargarte cosas más importantes. Vamos a celebrarlo.”

22 »Después llegó el empleado que había recibido dos mil monedas, y le dijo: “Señor, usted me dio dos mil monedas, y aquí tiene otras dos mil que yo gané.”

23 »El hombre le contestó: “¡Excelente! Eres un empleado bueno, y se puede confiar en ti. Ya que cuidaste bien lo poco que te di, ahora voy a encargarte cosas más importantes. Vamos a celebrarlo.”
24 »Por último, llegó el empleado que había recibido mil monedas, y dijo: “Señor, yo sabía que usted es un hombre muy exigente, que pide hasta lo imposible.

25 Por eso me dio miedo, y escondí el dinero bajo tierra. Aquí le devuelvo exactamente sus mil monedas.”
26 »El hombre le respondió: “Eres un empleado malo y perezoso. Si sabías que soy muy exigente,

27 ¿por qué no llevaste el dinero al banco? Así, al volver, yo recibiría el dinero que te di, más los intereses.”
28 »Entonces el hombre dijo a sus ayudantes: “Quítenle a éste las mil monedas, y dénselas al que tiene diez mil.29 Porque al que tiene mucho se le dará más, y le sobrará; pero al que no tiene nada, hasta lo poco que tiene se le quitará.

30 Y a este empleado inútil, échenlo afuera, a la oscuridad; allí tendrá tanto miedo que llorará y le rechinarán de terror los dientes.”

El juicio final

31 »Cuando yo, el Hijo del hombre , regrese, vendré como un rey poderoso, rodeado de mis ángeles , y me sentaré en mi trono.32 Gente de todos los países se presentará delante de mí, y apartaré a los malos de los buenos, como el pastor que aparta las cabras de las ovejas. t33 A los buenos los pondré a mi derecha, y a los malos a mi izquierda.34 Entonces yo, el Rey, les diré a los buenos: “¡Mi Padre los ha bendecido ! ¡Vengan, participen del reino que mi Padre preparó desde antes de la creación del mundo!35 Porque cuando tuve hambre, ustedes me dieron de comer; cuando tuve sed, me dieron de beber; cuando tuve que salir de mi país, ustedes me recibieron en su casa;

36 cuando no tuve ropa, ustedes me la dieron; cuando estuve enfermo, me visitaron; cuando estuve en la cárcel, ustedes fueron a verme.”
37 »Y los buenos me preguntarán: “Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos con hambre y te dimos de comer? ¿Cuándo tuviste sed y te dimos de beber?38 ¿Alguna vez tuviste que salir de tu país y te recibimos en nuestra casa, o te vimos sin ropa y te dimos qué ponerte?

39 No recordamos que hayas estado enfermo, o en la cárcel, y que te hayamos visitado.”

40 »Yo, el Rey, les diré: “Lo que ustedes hicieron para ayudar a una de las personas menos importantes de este mundo, a quienes yo considero como hermanos, es como si lo hubieran hecho para mí.”
41 »Luego les diré a los malvados: “¡Aléjense de mí! Lo único que pueden esperar de Dios es castigo. Váyanse al fuego que nunca se apaga, al fuego que Dios preparó para el diablo y sus ayudantes.42 Porque cuando tuve hambre, ustedes no me dieron de comer; cuando tuve sed, no me dieron de beber;

43 cuando tuve que salir de mi país, ustedes no me recibieron en sus casas; cuando no tuve ropa, ustedes tampoco me dieron qué ponerme; cuando estuve enfermo y en la cárcel, no fueron a verme.”

44 »Ellos me responderán: “Señor, nunca te vimos con hambre o con sed. Nunca supimos que tuviste que salir de tu país, ni te vimos sin ropa. Tampoco supimos que estuviste enfermo o en la cárcel. Por eso no te ayudamos.”

45 »Entonces les contestaré: “Como ustedes no ayudaron ni a una de las personas menos importantes de este mundo, yo considero que tampoco me ayudaron a mí.”

46 »Esta gente malvada recibirá un castigo interminable, pero los que obedecen a Dios recibirán la vida eterna.»

MATTHEW 25

A Story about Ten Young Women

1  t The kingdom of heaven is like what happened one night when ten young women took their oil lamps and went to a wedding to meet the groom.t 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps, but no extra oil.

4 The ones who were wise took along extra oil for their lamps.
5 The groom was late arriving, and the young women became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 Then in the middle of the night someone shouted, “Here's the groom! Come to meet him!”
7 When the women got up and started getting their lamps ready,

8 the foolish ones said to the others, “Let us have some of your oil! Our lamps are going out.”

9 Those who were wise answered, “There's not enough oil for all of us! Go and buy some for yourselves.”
10 While the foolish ones were on their way to get some oil, the groom arrived. The five who were ready went into the wedding, and the doors were closed.

11 t Later the others returned and shouted, “Sir, sir! Open the door for us!”

12 But the groom replied, “I don't even know you!”

13 So, my disciples, always be ready! You don't know the day or the time when all this will happen.

A Story //about Three Servants

(Luke 19.11-27)

15 The man knew what each servant could do. So he handed 5,000 coins to the first servant, 2,000 to the second, and 1,000 to the third. Then he left the country.
16 As soon as the man had gone, the servant with the 5,000 coins used them to earn 5,000 more. 17 The servant who had 2,000 coins did the same with his money and earned 2,000 more.

18 But the servant with 1,000 coins dug a hole and hid his master's money in the ground.
19 Some time later the master of those servants returned. He called them in and asked what they had done with his money.

20 The servant who had been given 5,000 coins brought them in with the 5,000 that he had earned. He said, “Sir, you gave me 5,000 coins, and I have earned 5,000 more.”

21 “Wonderful!” his master replied. “You are a good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness!”

22 Next, the servant who had been given 2,000 coins came in and said, “Sir, you gave me 2,000 coins, and I have earned 2,000 more.”

23 “Wonderful!” his master replied. “You are a good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness!”
24 The servant who had been given 1,000 coins then came in and said, “Sir, I know that you are hard to work for. You harvest what you don't plant and gather crops where you haven't scattered seed.

25 I was frightened and went out and hid your money in the ground. Here is every single coin!”
26 The master of the servant told him, “You are lazy and good-for-nothing! You know I harvest what I don't plant and gather crops where I haven't scattered seed.

27 You could have at least put my money in the bank, so I could have earned interest on it.”
28 Then the master said, “Now your money will be taken away and given to the servant with 10,000 coins! 29 t Everyone who has something will be given more, and they will have more than enough. But everything will be taken from those who don't have anything.

30 t You are a worthless servant, and you will be thrown out into the dark where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain.”

The Final Judgment

32 The people of all nations will be brought before him, and he will separate them, as shepherds separate their sheep from their goats.
33 He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 Then the king will say to those on his right, “My father has blessed you! Come and receive the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world was created. 35 t When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. When I was a stranger, you welcomed me,

36 and when I was naked, you gave me clothes to wear. When I was sick, you took care of me, and when I was in jail, you visited me.”
37 Then the ones who pleased the Lord will ask, “When did we give you something to eat or drink? 38 When did we welcome you as a stranger or give you clothes to wear

39 or visit you while you were sick or in jail?”

40 The king will answer, “Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me.”
41 Then the king will say to those on his left, “Get away from me! You are under God's curse. Go into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! 42 I was hungry, but you did not give me anything to eat, and I was thirsty, but you did not give me anything to drink.

43 I was a stranger, but you did not welcome me, and I was naked, but you did not give me any clothes to wear. I was sick and in jail, but you did not take care of me.”

44 Then the people will ask, “Lord, when did we fail to help you when you were hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in jail?”

45 The king will say to them, “Whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you failed to do it for me.”
46  t Then Jesus said, “Those people will be punished forever. But the ones who pleased God will have eternal life.”
