MATEO 4

Ang Pagtintal kang Jesus

(Mc. 1:12-13; Lu. 4:1-13)

1  Human niadto, gidala sa Espiritu Santo si Jesus ngadto sa kamingawan aron tintalon ni Satanas.2 Sulod sa 40 ka adlaw ug 40 ka gabii nagpuasa si Jesus, ug gigutom siya.3 Miduol kaniya si Satanas ug miingon,

4  Apan mitubag si Jesus kaniya, + 4:4 Tan-awa usab ang Deu. 8:3.
5 Unya gidala siya ni Satanas didto sa Balaan nga Siyudad ug gipatindog didto sa kinatas-ang bahin sa templo.

6  Unya miingon siya kang Jesus, + 4:6 Tan-awa usab ang Salmo 91:11-12.

7  add Apan mitubag si Jesus kaniya, + 4:7 Tan-awa usab ang Deu. 6:16.
8 Unya gidala na usab ni Satanas si Jesus sa taas nga bukid, ug gipakita kaniya ang tanan nga mga gingharian sa kalibotan ug ang katahom niini.9 Miingon si Satanas kaniya,

10  Unya miingon si Jesus, + 4:10 Tan-awa usab ang Deu. 6:13.

11 Unya mibiya si Satanas, ug miabot ang mga anghel sa Dios ug mialagad kang Jesus.

Gisugdan ni Jesus ang Iyang Buluhaton

(Mc. 1:14-15; Lu. 4:14-15)

12 Sa pagkadungog ni Jesus nga napriso si Juan nga tigbautismo, mibalik siya sa Galilea.13  Wala siya magpabilin sa Nazaret, milahos hinuon siya sa lungsod sa Capernaum. Kini nga lungsod anaa sa daplin sa Linaw + 4:13 linaw: Sa ubang binisaya, lanaw. sa Galilea ug sakop sa Zebulun ug Neftali.14 Nahitabo kini aron matuman ang panagna ni propeta Isaias nga nagaingon,

16 Apan bisan nagapuyo diha sa kangitngit ang mga tawo niini nga mga dapit, makakita sila ug kahayag nga hilabihan.

17 Sukad niadto, nagsugod na si Jesus sa pagwali. Nag-ingon siya,

Gitawag ni Jesus ang Upat ka Mangingisda

(Mc. 1:16-20; Lu. 5:1-11)

18 Samtang naglakaw si Jesus sa daplin sa Linaw sa Galilea, nakita niya didto ang managsoon nga si Simon nga gitawag usab ug Pedro ug si Andres nga nagtaktak ug pukot kay mga mangingisda man kini sila.19 Miingon si Jesus kanila,

20 Diha-diha gibiyaan nila ang ilang mga pukot ug misunod kaniya.
21 Human niadto, mipadayon si Jesus sa paglakaw, ug sa unahan nakita niya ang managsoon nga si Santiago ug si Juan nga mga anak ni Zebede. Silang duha kauban sa ilang amahan nga nag-ayo sa ilang pukot didto sa sakayan. Gitawag ni Jesus ang managsoon,

22 ug diha-diha gibiyaan nila ang ilang sakayan ug ang ilang amahan ug misunod sila kang Jesus.

Nagtudlo si Jesus ug Nang-ayo sa mga Masakiton

(Lu. 6:17-19)

23  Milibot si Jesus sa tibuok nga Galilea ug nagtudlo diha sa mga simbahan sa mga Judio. Giwali niya kanila ang Maayong Balita mahitungod sa paghari sa Dios , ug gipang-ayo niya ang tanang matang sa sakit sa mga tawo.24 Nabantog siya sa tibuok Siria, busa gidala sa mga tawo ang tanan nga mga masakiton ngadto kaniya: bisan ang mga nag-antos sa hilabihan nga kasakit, ang mga gigamhan sa daotang espiritu, ang mga patulon, ug ang mga paralitiko. Giayo silang tanan ni Jesus.25  Daghan gayod nga katawhan ang misunod kang Jesus: mga taga-Galilea, taga-Decapolis, taga-Jerusalem, ug taga-lain pa nga mga lungsod sa Judea, ug ang uban gikan sa tabok sa Suba sa Jordan.

Matthew 4

The Test

1-3 Next Jesus was taken into the wild by the Spirit for the Test. The Devil was ready to give it. Jesus prepared for the Test by fasting forty days and forty nights. That left him, of course, in a state of extreme hunger, which the Devil took advantage of in the first test: "Since you are God's Son, speak the word that will turn these stones into loaves of bread."

4 Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God's mouth."

5-6 For the second test the Devil took him to the Holy City. He sat him on top of the Temple and said, "Since you are God's Son, jump." The Devil goaded him by quoting Psalm 91: "He has placed you in the care of angels. They will catch you so that you won't so much as stub your toe on a stone."

7 Jesus countered with another citation from Deuteronomy: "Don't you dare test the Lord your God."

8-9 For the third test, the Devil took him to the peak of a huge mountain. He gestured expansively, pointing out all the earth's kingdoms, how glorious they all were. Then he said, "They're yours—lock, stock, and barrel. Just go down on your knees and worship me, and they're yours."

10 Jesus' refusal was curt: "Beat it, Satan!" He backed his rebuke with a third quotation from Deuteronomy: "Worship the Lord your God, and only him. Serve him with absolute single-heartedness."

11 The Test was over. The Devil left. And in his place, angels! Angels came and took care of Jesus' needs.

Teaching and Healing

12-17 When Jesus got word that John had been arrested, he returned to Galilee. He moved from his hometown, Nazareth, to the lakeside village Capernaum, nestled at the base of the Zebulun and Naphtali hills. This move completed Isaiah's sermon:
Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, road to the sea, over Jordan, Galilee, crossroads for the nations. People sitting out their lives in the dark saw a huge light; Sitting in that dark, dark country of death, they watched the sun come up.
This Isaiah-prophesied sermon came to life in Galilee the moment Jesus started preaching. He picked up where John left off: "Change your life. God's kingdom is here."

18-20 Walking along the beach of Lake Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers: Simon (later called Peter) and Andrew. They were fishing, throwing their nets into the lake. It was their regular work. Jesus said to them, "Come with me. I'll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I'll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass." They didn't ask questions, but simply dropped their nets and followed.

21-22 A short distance down the beach they came upon another pair of brothers, James and John, Zebedee's sons. These two were sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, mending their fishnets. Jesus made the same offer to them, and they were just as quick to follow, abandoning boat and father.

23-25 From there he went all over Galilee. He used synagogues for meeting places and taught people the truth of God. God's kingdom was his theme—that beginning right now they were under God's government, a good government! He also healed people of their diseases and of the bad effects of their bad lives. Word got around the entire Roman province of Syria. People brought anybody with an ailment, whether mental, emotional, or physical. Jesus healed them, one and all. More and more people came, the momentum gathering. Besides those from Galilee, crowds came from the "Ten Towns" across the lake, others up from Jerusalem and Judea, still others from across the Jordan.
