Fristelsen i ørkenen

1 Derefter førte Helligånden Jesus ud til et øde sted, for at Djævelen kunne friste ham.2 Der gik 40 døgn, hvor Jesus ikke spiste noget, og han blev meget sulten.

3 Da kom Fristeren til ham og sagde: Hvis du virkelig er Guds Søn, hvorfor siger du så ikke til de sten dér, at de skal blive til brød?

4 Jesus svarede: Der står skrevet: Et menneske lever ikke af brød alene, men af hvert ord, som Gud taler. t
5 Så førte Djævelen ham ind til Jerusalem og op på det højeste hjørne af tempelmuren.t

6 Hvis du virkelig er Guds Søn, sagde han, så kast dig ud herfra! Der står jo skrevet: Han befaler sine engle at passe på dig. De skal bære dig på hænder, så du ikke støder din fod på nogen sten. t

7 Jesus svarede: Der står også skrevet: Du må ikke provokere Herren, din Gud. t
8 Så tog Djævelen ham med op på toppen af et højt bjerg og viste ham alle verdens lande og al deres herlighed.

9 Alt det vil jeg give dig, sagde han, hvis du falder på knæ og tilbeder mig.

10 Jesus svarede: Forsvind Satan! Der står jo skrevet: Det er Herren din Gud, du skal tilbede, og ham alene du skal tjene. t

11 Så forlod Djævelen ham, og nogle engle kom og sørgede for mad til ham.

Jesus begynder at fortælle om Guds rige

12 Da Jesus kort efter hørte, at Johannes var blevet sat i fængsel, tog han tilbage til Galilæa.13 Han slog sig dog ikke ned i sin hjemby Nazaret, men flyttede til Kapernaum ved Genesaret Sø, som ligger i den egn, hvor stammerne Zebulon og Naftali i sin tid havde bosat sig.

14 Dermed gik det ord i opfyldelse, som Gud havde talt ved profeten Esajas:
15 Du Zebulons og Naftalis land,
som vejen til havet går igennem,
som strækker sig til øst for Jordanfloden
de fremmede folkeslags Galilæa,16 det folk, som bor i mørket,
har set et strålende lys.
Lyset er brudt frem hos dem, som lever i dødens land
og bor i dødens skygge. t

17 Fra da af begyndte Jesus at forkynde sit budskab: I skal ændre jeres indstilling, for nu er Guds rige kommet!

Jesus udvælger sine første disciple

18 En dag, da Jesus gik langs bredden af Galilæasøen, så han to brødre, Simon (der senere fik navnet Peter) og Andreas. De var i færd med at fiske med kastenet i søen.19 Jesus råbte ud til dem: Kom med mig, så skal jeg gøre jer til menneskefiskere!

20 Med det samme sagde de farvel til fiskeriet og fulgte ham som hans første disciple.t
21 Lidt længere henne på stranden fik Jesus øje på to andre brødre, Jakob og Johannes. De sad i en båd sammen med deres far, Zebedæus, og var ved at gøre deres net klar til næste fangst. Dem kaldte Jesus også på,

22 og de lagde straks arbejdet til side, efterlod deres far i båden og fulgte med Jesus.

Jesus fortæller om Gud og helbreder i hele Galilæa

23 Jesus vandrede nu omkring i hele Galilæa og underviste i synagogerne. Overalt hvor han kom frem, forkyndte han de gode nyheder om Guds rige, og han helbredte alle slags skrøbeligheder og sygdomme.24 Rygterne om de mirakler, han gjorde, blev spredt langt ud over Galilæas grænser, så der kom syge helt fra Syrien for at blive helbredt. Uanset hvad de fejlede, eller hvilke smerter de havde - om det var dæmonbesatte, epileptikere eller lamme mennesker - så helbredte Jesus dem alle.

25 Store skarer fulgte ham, hvor han end gik. Det var folk fra Galilæa, Dekapolis, Jerusalem og hele Judæa - ja, de kom helt fra den anden side af Jordanfloden.

Matthew 4

The Temptation of Jesus

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wildernesst to be tempted by the devil.2 After he fasted forty days and forty nights he was famished.t3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”t4 But he answered,t “It is written, ‘Mantdoes not livetby bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”s5 Then the devil took him to the holy city,s had him standt on the highest points of the temple,6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you’s and ‘with their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”s7 Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”s8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their grandeur.t9 And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worshipt me.”10 Then Jesus said to him, “Go away,s Satan! For it is written: ‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”s

11 Then the devil left him, and angelst came and began ministering to his needs.

Preaching in Galilee

12 Now when Jesust heard that John had been imprisoned,t he went into Galilee.13 While in Galilee, he moved from Nazareths to make his home in Capernaumtss by the sea,ts in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

14 so that what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:t

15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the way by the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles –

16 the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light,
and on those who sit in the region and shadow of death a light has dawned.”s

17 From that time Jesus began to preach this message:t “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

The Call of the Disciples

18 Ast he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen).t19 He said to them, “Follow me, and I will turn you into fishers of people.”ts20 Theyt left their nets immediately and followed him.s21 Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boatt with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Thent he called them.

22 Theyt immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.

Jesus’ Healing Ministry

23 Jesust went throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues,s preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of disease and sickness among the people.24 So a report about him spread throughout Syria. Peoplet brought to him all who suffered with various illnesses and afflictions, those who had seizures,t paralytics, and those possessed by demons,t and he healed them.

25 And large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis,ts Jerusalem,s Judea, and beyond the Jordan River.t
