Matteus 4

Jesus frestas av djävulen

1 Sedan fördes Jesus ut i ödemarken av Guds Ande för att djävulen skulle fresta honom.2 Under 40 dagar och 40 nätter åt han ingenting, och han blev till slut hungrig.3 Då kom djävulen fram till honom och sa: "Gör bröd av de här stenarna, om du nu är Guds Son!"

4 Men Jesus sa till honom: "Nej! Det står i Skriftent: 'Människan lever inte bara av bröd, utan av alla de ord som kommer från Gud.t' "
5 Sedan tog djävulen honom med till Guds stad, Jerusalem, och ställde honom högst uppe på tempelmuren,6 och sa: "Hoppa ner, om du nu är Guds Son! Det står ju i Skriften: 'Gud ska befalla sina änglar att skydda dig. De ska bära dig på sina händer, så att du inte skadar dig mot någon sten.t' "

7 Men Jesus svarade honom: "Det står också i Skriften: 'Du ska inte sätta Herren, din Gud, på prov.t' "
8 Efter det tog djävulen med honom upp till toppen av ett mycket högt berg och visade honom världens alla länder och deras härlighet.

9 "Allt detta ska jag ge dig ", sa han, "om du bara faller ner och tillber mig."

10 "Försvinn, Satan", svarade Jesus honom. "Det står ju i Skriften: 'Det är Herren, din Gud, du ska tillbe, och bara honom du ska tjäna.t' "

11 Då lät djävulen honom vara, och änglar kom till Jesus för att betjäna honom.

Jesus talar till folket i Galileen

12-13 När Jesus hörde att Johannes hade blivit fängslad, lämnade han Judeen och återvände till Galileen. Men han slog sig inte ner i sin hemstad Nasaret, utan flyttade till Kafarnaum vid Galileiska sjön, nära det område där de båda stammarna Sebulon och Naftali levde.

14 Genom detta blev det verklighet som Gud förutsagt genom profeten Jesaja:
15 "Sebulons land och Naftalis land utmed sjön, området bortom floden Jordan, övre Galileen med dess många olika folk -

16 dessa människor som bodde där i mörkret fick se ett stort ljus. De levde i dödens land, men ett strålande ljus gick upp över dem."t

17 Från och med nu började Jesus tala till folket och säga: "Lämna synden och vänd om till Gud, för han har kommit för att rädda människor och göra dem till sitt eget folk!t "

De första efterföljarna

18 En dag när han vandrade längs Galileiska sjön fick han se två bröder: Simon, som kallas Petrus, och Andreas. De höll på att kasta ut nät i sjön, för de var fiskare.
19 Jesus ropade till dem: "Kom och bli mina efterföljare, så ska jag visa er hur man fiskar människor istället!"

20 Och de lämnade genast sina nät och följde honom.
21 När han gick vidare fick han se två andra bröder, Jakob och Johannes, sitta i en båt tillsammans med sin pappa Sebedaios och göra i ordning sina nät. Han ropade på dem också, och

22 genast lämnade de båten och sin pappa och följde honom.

Jesus undervisar och botar sjuka

23 Jesus vandrade nu omkring i hela Galileen och undervisade i synagogornat, och vart han än kom berättade han det glada budskapet om att Gud vill rädda människor och göra dem till sitt eget folk,t och han botade alla slags sjukdomar och plågor bland folket.

24 Ryktet om hans under spreds långt utanför Galileens gränser och snart kom det sjuka människor också från Syrient för att bli botade. Vilken sjukdom eller vilket lidande de än var drabbade av, om de var besatta av onda andar, led av krampanfall eller var förlamade, så botade han dem.

25 Stora folkmassor följde honom vart han än gick - människor från Galileen, Tiostadsområdett, Jerusalem och hela Judeen och från andra sidan Jordan.

Matthew 4

The Temptation of Jesus

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wildernesst to be tempted by the devil.2 After he fasted forty days and forty nights he was famished.t3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”t4 But he answered,t “It is written, ‘Mantdoes not livetby bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”s5 Then the devil took him to the holy city,s had him standt on the highest points of the temple,6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you’s and ‘with their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”s7 Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”s8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their grandeur.t9 And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you throw yourself to the ground and worshipt me.”10 Then Jesus said to him, “Go away,s Satan! For it is written: ‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”s

11 Then the devil left him, and angelst came and began ministering to his needs.

Preaching in Galilee

12 Now when Jesust heard that John had been imprisoned,t he went into Galilee.13 While in Galilee, he moved from Nazareths to make his home in Capernaumtss by the sea,ts in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

14 so that what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled:t

15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the way by the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles –

16 the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light,
and on those who sit in the region and shadow of death a light has dawned.”s

17 From that time Jesus began to preach this message:t “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

The Call of the Disciples

18 Ast he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen).t19 He said to them, “Follow me, and I will turn you into fishers of people.”ts20 Theyt left their nets immediately and followed him.s21 Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boatt with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Thent he called them.

22 Theyt immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.

Jesus’ Healing Ministry

23 Jesust went throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues,s preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of disease and sickness among the people.24 So a report about him spread throughout Syria. Peoplet brought to him all who suffered with various illnesses and afflictions, those who had seizures,t paralytics, and those possessed by demons,t and he healed them.

25 And large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis,ts Jerusalem,s Judea, and beyond the Jordan River.t
