Matthäus 4

1 Dann ward Jesus vom Geist in die Wüste geführt,t um von dem Teufel versucht zu werden.2 Und als er vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte gefastet hatte,t empfand er zuletzt Hunger.3 Da trat der Versucher zu ihm und sprach: "Bist du Gottes Sohn, so befiehl, daß sich diese Steine hier in Brot verwandeln."4 Doch er antwortete: "Es steht geschrieben: Der Mensch wird nicht durch Brot allein am Leben erhalten, sondern durch alles, was ihm durch Gottes Allmachtswort bereitet wird."t5 Dann nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich in die heilige Stadt,t stellte ihn auf das flachte Dach der Tempelhallet6 und sprach zu ihm: "Bist du Gottes Sohn, so stürze dich hinab,t denn es steht geschrieben:t Er wird seinen Engeln deinetwegen Auftrag geben, und sie sollen dich auf den Händen tragen, daß du nicht mit deinem Fuß an einen Stein stoßest."7 Jesus aber erwiderte ihm: "Anderseits steht auch geschrieben: Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht versuchen."t8 Weiter nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich auf einen sehr hohen Berg. Von dort aus zeigte er ihmt alle Reiche der Welt mit ihrer Pracht9 und sprach zu ihm: "Dies alles will ich dir geben, wenn du vor mir niederfällst und mir huldigst."10 Da antwortete ihm Jesus: "Mir aus den Augen, Satan! Denn es steht geschrieben: Du sollst dem Herrn, deinem Gott, anbetend huldigen und ihn allein verehren."t11 Da verließ ihn der Teufel, und nun kamen Engel herbei und brachten ihm Speise.12 Auf die Kunde, Johannes sei verhaftet worden,t zog sich Jesus nach Galiläa zurück.13 Er verließ Nazaret und nahm seine Wohnung in Kapernaumt am Seet in dem Gebiet von Sebulon und Naphtali. —14 So erfüllte sich der Ausspruch des Propheten Jesaja:t15 Das Land Sebulon und das Land Naphtali, das Gebiet nach dem Meeret zu, die Gegend östlich vom Jordan, das heidnische Galiläat16 - das Volk, das im Finstern saß, hat ein großes Licht gesehn, und denen, die in des Todes Land und Schatten wohnten, hat ein Licht geleuchtet.17 Seit der Zeit begann Jesus öffentlich zu lehren. Seine Botschaft lautete: "Ändert euern Sinn, denn das Königreich der Himmel ist nahe herbeigekommen!"t18 Als Jesus (eines Tages) an dem Ufer des Galiläischen Seest wandelte, erblickte er zwei Brüder: Simon, mit dem Beinamen Petrus,t und seinen Bruder Andreas; die warfen ein Wurfnetz in den See, denn sie waren Fischer.t19 Und er sprach zu ihnen: "Kommt und folget mir, ich will euch zu Menschenfischern machen."20 Da ließen sie sofort ihre Netze liegen und folgten ihm.21 Als er dann weiterging, sah er ein anderes Brüderpaar: Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus, und seinen Bruder Johannes; die brachten in ihrem Boote mit ihrem Vater Zebedäus ihre Hochseenetze in Ordnung. Und er berief sie.22 Sogleich verließen sie das Boot und ihren Vater und folgten ihm.t23 Jesus zog umher in ganz Galiläa: er lehrte in ihren Versammlungshäusern,t verkündigte die frohe Botschaft vom Königreiche und heilte allerlei Krankheiten und Gebrechen im Volke.t24 Die Kunde von ihm ging weiter und drang durch ganz Syrien. Da brachte man zu ihm alle, die an den verschiedenartigsten Gebrechen litten: von Schmerzen Geplagte, Besessene, Mondsüchtige, Gelähmte; und er heilte sie.25 Es folgten ihm große Volksscharen aus Galiläa und dem Gebiete der Zehn Städte,t aus Jerusalem und Judäa und aus der Gegend jenseits des Jordans.

Matthew 4

1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered.3 And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.5 Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple,6 and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.8 Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;9 and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.11 Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee;13 and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali:14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,

16 The people that sat in darkness Saw a great light, And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, To them did light spring up.

17 From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers.19 And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men.20 And they straightway left the nets, and followed him.21 And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.22 And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him.

23 And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people.24 And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.25 And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and from beyond the Jordan.
