Tentazione di Gesú

1 Allora Gesú fu condotto dallo Spirito nel deserto, per essere tentato dal diavolo.2 E, dopo aver digiunato quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, alla fine ebbe fame.3 E il tentatore, avvicinatosi, gli disse: «Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, ordina che queste pietre diventino pani».

4 Ma egli rispose: «Sta scritto: “Non di pane soltanto vivrà l'uomo, ma di ogni parola che proviene dalla bocca di Dio”».
5 Allora il diavolo lo portò con sé nella città santa, lo pose sul pinnacolo del tempio,

6 e gli disse: «Se tu sei Figlio di Dio, gettati giú; poiché sta scritto: “Egli darà ordini ai suoi angeli a tuo riguardo, ed essi ti porteranno sulle loro mani, perché tu non urti con il piede contro una pietra”».

7 Gesú gli rispose: «È altresí scritto: “Non tentare il Signore Dio tuo”».
8 Di nuovo il diavolo lo portò con sé sopra un monte altissimo e gli mostrò tutti i regni del mondo e la loro gloria, dicendogli:9 «Tutte queste cose ti darò, se tu ti prostri e mi adori».

10 Allora Gesú gli disse: «Vattene, Satana, poiché sta scritto: “Adora il Signore Dio tuo e a lui solo rendi il culto”».

11 Allora il diavolo lo lasciò, ed ecco degli angeli si avvicinarono a lui e lo servivano.

Inizio dell'attività di Gesú a Capernaum

12 Gesú, udito che Giovanni era stato messo in prigione, si ritirò in Galilea.
13 E, lasciata Nazaret, venne ad abitare in Capernaum, città sul mare, ai confini di Zabulon e di Neftali,

14 affinché si adempisse quello che era stato detto dal profeta Isaia:

15 «Il paese di Zabulon e il paese di Neftali, sulla via del mare, di là dal Giordano, la Galilea dei pagani,

16 il popolo che stava nelle tenebre, ha visto una gran luce; su quelli che erano nella contrada e nell'ombra della morte una luce si è levata».

17 Da quel tempo Gesú cominciò a predicare e a dire: «Ravvedetevi, perché il regno dei cieli è vicino».

Chiamata dei primi discepoli

18 Mentre camminava lungo il mare della Galilea, Gesú vide due fratelli, Simone detto Pietro, e Andrea suo fratello, i quali gettavano la rete in mare, perché erano pescatori.19 E disse loro: «Venite dietro a me e vi farò pescatori di uomini».20 Ed essi, lasciate subito le reti, lo seguirono.21 Passato oltre, vide altri due fratelli, Giacomo di Zebedeo e Giovanni, suo fratello, i quali nella barca con Zebedeo, loro padre, rassettavano le reti; e li chiamò.

22 Essi, lasciando subito la barca e il padre loro, lo seguirono.

Missione di Gesú in Galilea

23 Gesú andava attorno per tutta la Galilea, insegnando nelle loro sinagoghe e predicando il vangelo del regno, guarendo ogni malattia e ogni infermità tra il popolo.24 La sua fama si sparse per tutta la Siria; gli recarono tutti i malati colpiti da varie infermità e da vari dolori, indemoniati, epilettici, paralitici; ed egli li guarí.

25 Grandi folle lo seguirono dalla Galilea, dalla Decapoli, da Gerusalemme, dalla Giudea e da oltre il Giordano.

MATTHEW 4

Jesus and the Devil

(Mark 1.12,13; Luke 4.1-13)

1  t The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert, so that the devil could test him. 2 After Jesus had gone without eatingt for 40 days and nights, he was very hungry.

3 Then the devil came to him and said, “If you are God's Son, tell these stones to turn into bread.”

4  t Jesus answered, “The Scriptures say:
‘No one can live only on food.
People need every word
that God has spoken.’ ”
5 Next, the devil took Jesus into the holy city to the highest part of the temple.

6 t The devil said, “If you are God's Son, jump off. The Scriptures say:
‘God will give his angels
orders about you.
They will catch you
in their arms,
and you won't hurt
your feet on the stones.’ ”

7  t Jesus answered, “The Scriptures also say, ‘Don't try to test the Lord your God!’ ”
8 Finally, the devil took Jesus up on a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms on earth and their power.

9 The devil said to him, “I will give all this to you, if you will bow down and worship me.”

10  t Jesus answered, “Go away Satan! The Scriptures say:
‘Worship the Lord your God
and serve only him.’ ”

11 Then the devil left Jesus, and angels came to help him.

Jesus Begins His Work

(Mark 1.14,15; Luke 4.14,15)

14 So God's promise came true, just as the prophet Isaiah had said,

15  t “Listen, lands of Zebulun
and Naphtali,
lands along the road
to the sea
and across the Jordan.
Listen Galilee,
land of the Gentiles!

16 Although your people
live in darkness,
they will see
a bright light.
Although they live
in the shadow of death,
a light will shine
on them.”

17  t Then Jesus started preaching, “Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven will soon be here.”t

Jesus Chooses //Four Fishermen

(Mark 1.16-20; Luke 5.1-11)

20 Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.
21 Jesus walked on until he saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father, mending their nets. Jesus asked them to come with him.

22 At once they left the boat and their father and went with Jesus.

Jesus Teaches, Preaches, //and Heals

(Luke 6.17-19)

24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people with every kind of sickness or disease were brought to him. Some of them had a lot of demons in them, others were thought to be crazy, t and still others could not walk. But Jesus healed them all.
25 Large crowds followed Jesus from Galilee and the region around the ten cities known as Decapolis.t They also came from Jerusalem, Judea, and from across the Jordan River.
