Jesús es puesto a prueba

1 Luego, el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto para que fuera tentado por el diablo.2 Después de no comer nada durante cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, Jesús tenía mucha hambre.

3 Entonces el diablot vino para ponerlo a prueba y le dijo:
—Si eres Hijo de Dios, diles a estas piedras que se conviertan en pan.

4 Pero Jesús le respondió:
—Está escrito: "No sólo de pan vive el hombre; sino de toda palabra que Dios dice".t
5 Entonces el diablo llevó a Jesús a la ciudad santa y lo puso en lo más alto de un extremo del área del templot,

6 y le dijo:
—Si eres Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo desde aquí porque está escrito:
"Él mandará a sus ángeles que te cuiden.
Sus manos te rescatarán
para que ni siquiera te lastimes los pies
contra las piedras".t

7 Jesús le dijo:
—Pero también está escrito: "No pongas a prueba al Señor tu Dios".t
8 Después el diablo llevó a Jesús a una montaña muy alta y le mostró todos los reinos del mundo con toda su grandeza.

9 El diablo le dijo:
—Te daré todo esto si te arrodillas y me adoras.

10 Jesús le dijo:
—¡Largo de aquí Satanás! Porque está escrito: "Adora al Señor tu Dios y sírvele solamente a él".t

11 Entonces el diablo se fue, y los ángeles vinieron a cuidar a Jesús.

Jesús comienza su obra

12 Cuando Jesús oyó que habían encerrado a Juan en la cárcel, regresó a Galilea.13 Pero no se quedó viviendo en Nazaret, sino que se fue a vivir a Capernaúm, un pueblo que estaba cerca del lago de Galilea en la región de Zabulón y Neftalí.14 Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que dijo Dios a través del profeta Isaíast:
15 «Tierras de Zabulón y de Neftalí,
a la orilla del mar,
al otro lado del río Jordán:
Galilea, de gente extranjera.

16 Esa gente vive en la oscuridad,
pero han visto una gran luz;
una luz ha brillado para ellos,
que viven en una tierra oscura
como la muerte».t

17 Desde entonces, Jesús comenzó a anunciar: «Cambien su manera de pensar y de vivir porque el reino de Diost ya está cerca».

Los primeros seguidores

18 Cuando Jesús caminaba junto al lago de Galilea, vio a dos hermanos: Simón, llamado Pedro, y su hermano Andrés. Estaban lanzando la red para pescar en el lago, pues eran pescadores.

19 Y Jesús les dijo:
—Síganme, y yo les enseñaré a pescar hombres.
20 Inmediatamente ellos dejaron ahí sus redes y lo siguieron.21 Yendo más adelante, vio a otros dos hermanos: Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo. Estaban en el bote con el papá arreglando sus redes para pescar. Jesús los llamó

22 e inmediatamente ellos dejaron el bote y a su papá, y siguieron a Jesús.

Jesús enseña y sana a la gente

23 Jesús andaba por toda la región de Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogast y anunciando el mensaje de las buenas noticiast del reino. Iba entre la gente sanando toda enfermedad y dolencia.24 Su fama se difundió por toda Siria. Le traían a todos los que padecían de diversas enfermedades y a los que sufrían graves dolores. También le traían a los atormentados por algún demonio, a los epilépticos y a los paralíticos, y él los sanaba.

25 Muchísima gente de Galilea, de Decápolist, de Jerusalén, de Judea y del otro lado del río Jordán seguía a Jesús.

Matthew 4

The Temptation of Jesus

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.2 And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He tthen became hungry.3 And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"

5 Then the devil *took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,

6 and *said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,
'HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU';
and
'ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP,
SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'"7 Jesus said to him, "On the other hand, it is written, 'YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'"

8 Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory;9 and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me."10 Then Jesus *said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"11 Then the devil *left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.

Jesus Begins His Ministry

12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee;13 and leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.14  This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:

15 "THE LAND OF ZEBULUN AND THE LAND OF NAPHTALI,
BY THE WAY OF THE SEA, BEYOND THE JORDAN, GALILEE OF THE tGENTILES-

16 "THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SITTING IN DARKNESS SAW A GREAT LIGHT,
AND THOSE WHO WERE SITTING IN THE LAND AND SHADOW OF DEATH,
UPON THEM A LIGHT DAWNED."

17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

The First Disciples

18 Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.19 And He *said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.21 Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Ministry in Galilee

23 Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people.

24 The news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them.25 Large crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.
