Matthäus 5

1 Als er die Volksmenge sah, ging er auf die Bergeshöhe.t Dort setzte er sich nieder,t und seine Jüngert traten zu ihm.2 Da tat er seinen Mund auf und lehrte sie also:3 "Selig sindt die Armen im Geist!t Denn das Königreich der Himmel ist ihr Teil.4 Selig sind die Trauernden!t Denn sie sollen getröstet werden.5 Selig sind die stillen Dulder! Denn ihr Erbteil soll die Erde sein.t6 Selig sind, die hungern und dürsten nach der Gerechtigkeit! Denn sie sollen gesättigt werden.7 Selig sind die Barmherzigen! Denn ihnen soll Erbarmen widerfahren.8 Selig sind, die reines Herzens sind!t Denn sie sollen Gott schauen.9 Selig sind die Friedenstifter! Denn sie sollen Söhne Gottes heißen.10 Selig sind, die um Gerechtigkeit willen Verfolgung gelitten haben!t Denn das Königreich der Himmel ist ihr Teil.t11 Selig seid ihr, wenn man euch schmähet und verfolgt und um meinetwillen lügnerisch allerlei Böses von euch redet.12 Freuet euch darüber und jubelt, denn euer Lohn dafür ist groß im Himmel! Ebenso hat man ja die Propheten verfolgt, die vor euch lebten.13 Ihr seid das Salz der Erde.t Wird aber das Salz fade, womit soll man ihm die Salzkraft wiedergeben? Es hat dann weiter keinen Wert; man muß es wegwerfen und von den Leuten zertreten lassen.t14 Ihr seid das Licht der Welt.t Eine Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, kann nicht verborgen bleiben.t15 Man zündet auch nicht eine Lampe an und setzt sie dann unter einen Scheffel;t sondern man stellt sie auf den Leuchter;t dann gibt sie allen Hausbewohnern Licht.16 Ebenso soll euer Licht vor den Menschen leuchten, damit sie eure guten Werke sehen und euern Vater im Himmelt preisen.17 Denkt nicht, ich sei gekommen, um das Gesetz oder die Prophetent aufzuheben! Ich bin nicht gekommen, um aufzuheben, sondern um zu erfüllen.t18 Wahrlich,t ich sage euch: Eher können Himmel und Erde vergehn, als daß auch nur der kleinste Buchstabet oder ein einziger Stricht vom Gesetz abhanden kommt, ohne daß alles erfüllt wird.19 Wer darum eins von diesen Geboten, und sei es das geringste,t aufhebt und so die Leute lehrt, der wird der Geringste heißen im Königreich der Himmel; wer es aber erfüllt und lehrt, der wird ein Großer heißen im Königreich der Himmel.t20 Denn ich versichere euch: Steht es bei euch mit der Gerechtigkeit nicht viel besser als bei den Schriftgelehrtent und Pharisäern, so werdet ihr gewiß nicht eingehn ins Königreich der Himmel.t21 Ihr habt gehört, daß zu den Altent gesagt worden ist:t Du sollst nicht morden!t Wer aber einen Mord begeht, der soll dem Ortsgerichtt verfallen sein.t22 Ich aber sage euch: Wer seinem Bruder zürnt, der soll dem Ortsgericht verfallen; wer aber zu seinem Bruder mit Verachtung redet,t der soll dem Hohen Rat verfallen;t und wer das Scheltwort Narr gebraucht, der soll der Glut des Feuerst verfallen.23 Wenn du also deine Opfergabe schon zum Altart gebracht hast, und es fällt dir dortt ein, daß dein Bruder gegen dich einen Grund zur Klage hat,t24 so laß dort deine Opfergabe vor dem Altar stehn und geh zunächst hin und söhne dich mit deinem Bruder aus; dann erst komm und bring dein Opfer dar!t25 Zeig dich beizeiten deinem Gläubigert entgegenkommend,t solange du noch mit ihm auf dem Wege bist!t Sonst könnte dich der Gläubiger vor den Richter bringen und der Richtert dich dem Büttel übergeben, und man könnte dich ins Schuldgefängnis werfen.26 Wahrlich, ich sage dir: Du kommst dort nicht eher heraus, als bis du den letzten Pfennigt bezahlt hast.27 Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt worden ist: Du sollst nicht ehebrechen!t28 Ich aber sage euch: Wer ein Weibt begehrlich anblickt, der hat schon in seinem Herzen Ehebruch mit ihr getrieben.29 Wenn dich nun dein rechtes Auget zur Sünde verführt, so reiß es aus und wirf es von dir!t Denn es ist dir besser, eins von deinen Gliedern geht dir verloren, als daß dein ganzer Leib in die Höllet geworfen werde.t30 Und wenn dich deine rechte Hand zur Sünde verführt, haue sie ab und wirf sie von dir! Denn es ist dir besser, eins von deinen Gliedern geht dir verloren, als daß dein ganzer Leib in die Hölle fahre.31 Ferner ist gesagt worden: Wer sein Weib entläßt, der soll ihr einen Scheidebrief geben.t32 Ich aber sage euch: Wer sein Weib entläßt — abgesehn von dem Falle, daß sie Unzucht getriebent —, der setzt sie der Gefahr aus, daß sie Ehebruch begeht;t und wer eine (von ihrem Mann) entlassene Frau zum Weibe nimmt, der begeht damit einen Ehebruch.t33 Weiterhin habt ihr gehört, daß zu den Alten gesagt worden ist: Du sollst nicht falsch schwören, du sollst vielmehr dem Herrn deine Eide (und Gelübde) erfüllen.t34 Ich aber sage euch: Ihr sollt überhaupt nicht schwören:t weder bei dem Himmel, denn er ist Gottes Thron,t35 noch bei der Erde, denn sie ist seiner Füße Schemel,t noch bei Jerusalem, denn sie ist des großen Königs Stadt.t36 Du sollst auch nicht bei deinem Haupte schwören; denn du bist nicht imstande, ein einziges Haar weiß oder schwarz zu machen.t37 In eurer Rede sei vielmehr das Ja ein Ja, das Nein ein Nein;t was dem hinzugefügt wird,t stammt von dem Bösen.t38 Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt worden ist: Auge um Auge und Zahn um Zahn!t39 Ich aber sage euch: Setzt einem bösen Menschent keinen Widerstand entgegen!t Im Gegenteil: Wer dich auf die rechte Wange schlägt, dem halte auch die andre hin!40 Und wer dir durch eine Klage vor Gericht dein Unterkleid entreißen will, dem gib freiwillig auch dein Oberkleid.t41 Und wer dein Geleit für eine Meile haben will, mit dem gehe zwei!t42 Wer dich um etwas bittet, dem gib; und wer etwas von dir borgen will, von dem wende dich nicht ab!t43 Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt worden ist: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben und deinen Feind hassen!t44 Ich aber sage euch: Liebet eure Feinde und betet für eure Verfolger!45 Dann zeigt ihr euch als Söhne eures Vaters im Himmel. Denn er läßt seine Sonne aufgehn über Böse und Gute und läßt regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte.46 Denn wenn ihr nur die liebt, die euch lieben, was für eine Belohnung habt ihr da zu erwarten? Tun das nicht auch die Zöllner?t47 Und wenn ihr nur mit euern Volksgenossen verkehrt, was tut ihr da Besonderes? Tun das nicht auch die Heiden?48 Darumt sollt ihr vollkommen sein,t wie euer himmlischer Vater vollkommen ist.t

Matthew 5

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him:2 and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.

10 Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11 Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.14 Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.15 Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.16 Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

17 Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.20 For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21 Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:22 but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.23 If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee,24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art with him in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.26 Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing.

27 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery:28 but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.29 And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.30 And if thy right hand causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body go into hell.31 It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:32 but I say unto you, that every one that putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.

33 Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:34 but I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God;35 nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.37 But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one.

38 Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:39 but I say unto you, resist not him that is evil: but whosoever smiteth thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.40 And if any man would go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy:44 but I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;45 that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.46 For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same?48 Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
