متی 5

1 بھیڑ کو دیکھ کر عیسیٰ پہاڑ پر چڑھ کر بیٹھ گیا۔ اُس کے شاگرد اُس کے پاس آئے2 اور وہ اُنہیں یہ تعلیم دینے لگا:3 ”مبارک ہیں وہ جن کی روح ضرورت مند ہے، کیونکہ آسمان کی بادشاہی اُن ہی کی ہے۔4 مبارک ہیں وہ جو ماتم کرتے ہیں، کیونکہ اُنہیں تسلی دی جائے گی۔5 مبارک ہیں وہ جو حلیم ہیں، کیونکہ وہ زمین ورثے میں پائیں گے۔6 مبارک ہیں وہ جنہیں راست بازی کی بھوک اور پیاس ہے، کیونکہ وہ سیر ہو جائیں گے۔7 مبارک ہیں وہ جو رحم دل ہیں، کیونکہ اُن پر رحم کیا جائے گا۔8 مبارک ہیں وہ جو خالص دل ہیں، کیونکہ وہ اللہ کو دیکھیں گے۔9 مبارک ہیں وہ جو صلح کراتے ہیں، کیونکہ وہ اللہ کے فرزند کہلائیں گے۔10 مبارک ہیں وہ جن کو راست باز ہونے کے سبب سے ستایا جاتا ہے، کیونکہ اُنہیں آسمان کی بادشاہی ورثے میں ملے گی۔11 مبارک ہو تم جب لوگ میری وجہ سے تمہیں لعن طعن کرتے، تمہیں ستاتے اور تمہارے بارے میں ہر قسم کی بُری اور جھوٹی بات کرتے ہیں۔12 خوشی مناؤ اور باغ باغ ہو جاؤ، تم کو آسمان پر بڑا اجر ملے گا۔ کیونکہ اِسی طرح اُنہوں نے تم سے پہلے نبیوں کو بھی ایذا پہنچائی تھی۔13 تم دنیا کا نمک ہو۔ لیکن اگر نمک کا ذائقہ جاتا رہے تو پھر اُسے کیونکر دوبارہ نمکین کیا جا سکتا ہے؟ وہ کسی بھی کام کا نہیں رہا بلکہ باہر پھینکا جائے گا جہاں وہ لوگوں کے پاؤں تلے روندا جائے گا۔14 تم دنیا کی روشنی ہو۔ پہاڑ پر واقع شہر کی طرح تم کو چھپایا نہیں جا سکتا۔15 جب کوئی چراغ جلاتا ہے تو وہ اُسے برتن کے نیچے نہیں رکھتا بلکہ شمع دان پر رکھ دیتا ہے جہاں سے وہ گھر کے تمام افراد کو روشنی دیتا ہے۔16 اِسی طرح تمہاری روشنی بھی لوگوں کے سامنے چمکے تاکہ وہ تمہارے نیک کام دیکھ کر تمہارے آسمانی باپ کو جلال دیں۔17 یہ نہ سمجھو کہ مَیں موسوی شریعت اور نبیوں کی باتوں کو منسوخ کرنے آیا ہوں۔ منسوخ کرنے نہیں بلکہ اُن کی تکمیل کرنے آیا ہوں۔18 مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں، جب تک آسمان و زمین قائم رہیں گے تب تک شریعت بھی قائم رہے گی — نہ اُس کا کوئی حرف، نہ اُس کا کوئی زیر یا زبر منسوخ ہو گا جب تک سب کچھ پورا نہ ہو جائے۔19 جو اِن سب سے چھوٹے احکام میں سے ایک کو بھی منسوخ کرے اور لوگوں کو ایسا کرنا سکھائے اُسے آسمان کی بادشاہی میں سب سے چھوٹا قرار دیا جائے گا۔ اِس کے مقابلے میں جو اِن احکام پر عمل کر کے اِنہیں سکھاتا ہے اُسے آسمان کی بادشاہی میں بڑا قرار دیا جائے گا۔20 کیونکہ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اگر تمہاری راست بازی شریعت کے علما اور فریسیوں کی راست بازی سے زیادہ نہیں تو تم آسمان کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہونے کے لائق نہیں۔21 تم نے سنا ہے کہ باپ دادا کو فرمایا گیا، ’قتل نہ کرنا۔ اور جو قتل کرے اُسے عدالت میں جواب دینا ہو گا۔‘22 لیکن مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ جو بھی اپنے بھائی پر غصہ کرے اُسے عدالت میں جواب دینا ہو گا۔ اِسی طرح جو اپنے بھائی کو ’احمق‘ کہے اُسے یہودی عدالتِعالیہ میں جواب دینا ہو گا۔ اور جو اُس کو ’بے وقوف!‘ کہے وہ جہنم کی آگ میں پھینکے جانے کے لائق ٹھہرے گا۔23 لہٰذا اگر تجھے بیت المُقدّس میں قربانی پیش کرتے وقت یاد آئے کہ تیرے بھائی کو تجھ سے کوئی شکایت ہے24 تو اپنی قربانی کو وہیں قربان گاہ کے سامنے ہی چھوڑ کر اپنے بھائی کے پاس چلا جا۔ پہلے اُس سے صلح کر اور پھر واپس آ کر اللہ کو اپنی قربانی پیش کر۔25 فرض کرو کہ کسی نے تجھ پر مقدمہ چلایا ہے۔ اگر ایسا ہو تو کچہری میں داخل ہونے سے پہلے پہلے جلدی سے جھگڑا ختم کر۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ تجھے جج کے حوالے کرے، جج تجھے پولیس افسر کے حوالے کرے اور نتیجے میں تجھ کو جیل میں ڈالا جائے۔26 مَیں تجھے سچ بتاتا ہوں، وہاں سے تُو اُس وقت تک نہیں نکل پائے گا جب تک جرمانے کی پوری پوری رقم ادا نہ کر دے۔27 تم نے یہ حکم سن لیا ہے کہ ’زنا نہ کرنا۔‘28 لیکن مَیں تمہیں بتاتا ہوں، جو کسی عورت کو بُری خواہش سے دیکھتا ہے وہ اپنے دل میں اُس کے ساتھ زنا کر چکا ہے۔29 اگر تیری بائیں آنکھ تجھے گناہ کرنے پر اُکسائے تو اُسے نکال کر پھینک دے۔ اِس سے پہلے کہ تیرے پورے جسم کو جہنم میں ڈالا جائے بہتر یہ ہے کہ تیرا ایک ہی عضو جاتا رہے۔30 اور اگر تیرا دہنا ہاتھ تجھے گناہ کرنے پر اُکسائے تو اُسے کاٹ کر پھینک دے۔ اِس سے پہلے کہ تیرا پورا جسم جہنم میں جائے بہتر یہ ہے کہ تیرا ایک ہی عضو جاتا رہے۔31 یہ بھی فرمایا گیا ہے، ’جو بھی اپنی بیوی کو طلاق دے وہ اُسے طلاق نامہ لکھ دے۔‘32 لیکن مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اگر کسی کی بیوی نے زنا نہ کیا ہو توبھی شوہر اُسے طلاق دے تو وہ اُس سے زنا کراتا ہے۔ اور جو طلاق شدہ عورت سے شادی کرے وہ زنا کرتا ہے۔33 تم نے یہ بھی سنا ہے کہ باپ دادا کو فرمایا گیا، ’جھوٹی قَسم مت کھانا بلکہ جو وعدے تُو نے رب سے قَسم کھا کر کئے ہوں اُنہیں پورا کرنا۔‘34 لیکن مَیں تمہیں بتاتا ہوں، قَسم بالکل نہ کھانا۔ نہ ’آسمان کی قَسم‘ کیونکہ آسمان اللہ کا تخت ہے،35 نہ ’زمین کی‘ کیونکہ زمین اُس کے پاؤں کی چوکی ہے۔ ’یروشلم کی قَسم‘ بھی نہ کھانا کیونکہ یروشلم عظیم بادشاہ کا شہر ہے۔36 یہاں تک کہ اپنے سر کی قَسم بھی نہ کھانا، کیونکہ تُو اپنا ایک بال بھی کالا یا سفید نہیں کر سکتا۔37 صرف اِتنا ہی کہنا، ’جی ہاں‘ یا ’جی نہیں۔‘ اگر اِس سے زیادہ کہو تو یہ ابلیس کی طرف سے ہے۔38 تم نے سنا ہے کہ یہ فرمایا گیا ہے، ’آنکھ کے بدلے آنکھ، دانت کے بدلے دانت۔‘39 لیکن مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ بدکار کا مقابلہ مت کرنا۔ اگر کوئی تیرے دہنے گال پر تھپڑ مارے تو اُسے دوسرا گال بھی پیش کر دے۔40 اگر کوئی تیری قمیص لینے کے لئے تجھ پر مقدمہ کرنا چاہے تو اُسے اپنی چادر بھی دے دینا۔41 اگر کوئی تجھ کو اُس کا سامان اُٹھا کر ایک کلو میٹر جانے پر مجبور کرے تو اُس کے ساتھ دو کلو میٹر چلا جانا۔42 جو تجھ سے کچھ مانگے اُسے دے دینا اور جو تجھ سے قرض لینا چاہے اُس سے انکار نہ کرنا۔43 تم نے سنا ہے کہ فرمایا گیا ہے، ’اپنے پڑوسی سے محبت رکھنا اور اپنے دشمن سے نفرت کرنا۔‘44 لیکن مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں، اپنے دشمنوں سے محبت رکھو اور اُن کے لئے دعا کرو جو تم کو ستاتے ہیں۔45 پھر تم اپنے آسمانی باپ کے فرزند ٹھہرو گے، کیونکہ وہ اپنا سورج سب پر طلوع ہونے دیتا ہے، خواہ وہ اچھے ہوں یا بُرے۔ اور وہ سب پر بارش برسنے دیتا ہے، خواہ وہ راست باز ہوں یا ناراست۔46 اگر تم صرف اُن ہی سے محبت کرو جو تم سے کرتے ہیں تو تم کو کیا اجر ملے گا؟ ٹیکس لینے والے بھی تو ایسا ہی کرتے ہیں۔47 اور اگر تم صرف اپنے بھائیوں کے لئے سلامتی کی دعا کرو تو کون سی خاص بات کرتے ہو؟ غیریہودی بھی تو ایسا ہی کرتے ہیں۔48 چنانچہ ویسے ہی کامل ہو جیسا تمہارا آسمانی باپ کامل ہے۔

Matthew 5

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him:2 and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.

10 Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11 Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men.14 Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.15 Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.16 Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

17 Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.20 For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21 Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:22 but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.23 If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee,24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art with him in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.26 Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing.

27 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery:28 but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.29 And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.30 And if thy right hand causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body go into hell.31 It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:32 but I say unto you, that every one that putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.

33 Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:34 but I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God;35 nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.37 But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one.

38 Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:39 but I say unto you, resist not him that is evil: but whosoever smiteth thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.40 And if any man would go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy:44 but I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;45 that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.46 For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the Gentiles the same?48 Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
