六

1 　人にほめられようと、人前で善行を見せびらかさないようにしなさい。　そんなことをすれば、天の父からごほうびをいただけません。　2 貧しい人にお金や物を恵む時には、偽善者たちのように、そのことを大声で宣伝してはいけません。　彼らは、人目につくように、会堂や街頭で鳴り物入りで慈善行為をします。　いいですか、よく言っておきますが、そういう人たちは、もうそれで、ごほうびはもらったのです。　3 ですから、人に親切にする時は、右手が何をしているか左手でさえ気づかないくらいに、こっそりとしなさい。　4 そうすれば、隠れたことはどんな小さなことでもご存じの天の父から、必ずごほうびがいただけます。
神様に聞かれる祈り
5 　ここで、祈りについて注意しておきましょう。　人の見ている大通りや会堂で、さも信心深そうに祈って見せる偽善者のように祈ってはいけません。　よく言っておきますが、そういう人たちは、もうそれで、賞賛を受けてしまったのです。　6 祈る時には、一人で部屋に閉じこもり、父なる神に祈りなさい。　隠れたことはどんな小さなことでもご存じのあなたの父から、必ずごほうびがいただけます。
7 　ほんとうの神を知らない人たちのように、同じ文句をくどくど唱えてはいけません。　彼らは、同じ文句をくり返しさえすれば、祈りが聞かれると思っているのです。　8 いいですか。　父なる神は、あなたがたに何が必要かを、あなたがたが祈る前からすでに、ご存じなのです。
9 　ですから、こう祈りなさい。
『天におられるお父様。
あなたのきよい御名があがめられますように。
10 　あなたの御国がいま来ますように。
天の御国でと同じように、この地上でも、
あなたのみこころが行なわれますように。
11 　私たちに必要な日々の食物を、今日もお与えください。
12 　私たちの罪をお赦しください。
私たちも、私たちに罪を犯す者を赦しました。
13 　私たちを誘惑に会わせないように守り、
悪い者から救い出してください。アーメン。』
14 もしあなたがたが、自分に対して罪を犯した人を赦すなら、天の父も、あなたがたを赦してくださいます。　15 しかし、あなたがたが赦さないなら、天の父も、あなたがたを赦してくださいません。
16 　次に、断食についてですが、神のことだけに心を集中したくて断食をする時は、偽善者たちのような、人目につくやり方は避けなさい。彼らは、やつれた顔をわざと見せつけ、同情を買おうとします。よく言っておきますが、そういう人たちは、もうそれで、賞賛を受けてしまったのです。　17 断食をする時は、むしろ晴着をまといなさい。　18 そうすれば、だれもあなたが断食をしているとは気づかないでしょう。　しかし、あなたの父は、どんなことでもご存じです。　そして、報いてくださるのです。
19 　財産を、この地上にたくわえてはいけません。　地上では、損なわれたり、盗まれたりするからです。　20 財産は天にたくわえなさい。そこでは、価値を失うこともないし、盗まれる心配もありません。　21 あなたの持ち物が天にあるなら、あなたの心もまた天にあるのです。
22 　目が澄みきっているなら、あなたのたましいも輝いているはずです。　23 しかし、目が、悪い考えや欲望でくもっているなら、あなたのたましいは暗やみの中にいるのです。　その暗やみのなんと深いことか！
24 　だれも、神とお金の両方に仕えることはできません。　必ず、どちらか一方を憎んで、他方を愛するからです。
25 　ですから、食べ物や飲み物、着物のことで心配してはいけません。今、現に生きている、そのことのほうが、何を食べ、何を着るかということより、ずっと大事です。　26 空の鳥を見なさい。　食べ物の心配をしていますか。　種をまいたり、刈り取ったり、倉庫にため込んだりしていますか。　そんなことをしなくても、天の父は鳥を養っておられるでしょう。　まして、あなたがたは天の父にとって鳥よりはるかに価値があるのです。　27 だいたい、どんなに心配したところで、自分のいのちを一瞬でも延ばすことができますか。
28 　また、なぜ着物の心配をするのですか。　野に咲いているゆりの花を見なさい。　着物の心配などしていないでしょう。　29 それなのに、栄華をきわめたソロモンでさえ、この花ほど美しくは着飾っていませんでした。　30 今日は咲いていても、明日は枯れてしまう草花でさえ、神はこれほど心にかけてくださるのです。　だとしたら、あなたがたのことは、なおさらよくしてくださるでしょう。　ああ、全く信仰の薄い人たち。
31 　ですから、食べ物や着物のことは、何も心配しなくていいのです。　32 ほんとうの神を信じない人たちのまねをしてはいけません。　彼らは、このような物がたくさんあることを鼻にかけ、そうした物に心を奪われています。　しかし、天の父は、それらがあなたがたに必要なことは、よくご存じです。　33 神を第一とし、神が望まれるとおりの生活をしなさい。　そうすれば、必要なものは、神が与えてくださいます。
34 　明日のことを心配するのはやめなさい。　神は明日のことも心にかけてくださるのですから、一日一日を力いっぱい生き抜きなさい。

Matthew 6

1 Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.2 When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

5 And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.7 And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.8 Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.9 After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.11 Give us this day our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.13 And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;18 that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee.

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:21 for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.22 The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!24 No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.25 Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they?27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life?28 And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:29 yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.30 But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?31 Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?32 For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.33 But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.34 Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
