Matei 6

1 Luați seama să nu vă îndepliniți neprihănirea voastră înaintea oamenilor, ca să fiți văzuți de ei; altminteri, nu veți avea răsplată de la Tatăl vostru care este în ceruri.2 Tu, dar, când faci milostenie, nu suna cu trâmbița înaintea ta, cum fac fățarnicii, în sinagogi și în ulițe, pentru ca să fie slăviți de oameni. Adevărat vă spun că și-au luat răsplata.3 Ci tu, când faci milostenie, să nu știe stânga ta ce face dreapta,4 pentru ca milostenia ta să fie făcută în ascuns; și Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îți va răsplăti.5 Când vă rugați, să nu fiți ca fățarnicii, cărora le place să se roage stând în picioare în sinagogi și la colțurile ulițelor, pentru ca să fie văzuți de oameni. Adevărat vă spun că și-au luat răsplata.6 Ci tu, când te rogi, intră în odăița ta, încuie-ți ușa și roagă-te Tatălui tău, care este în ascuns; și Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îți va răsplăti.7 Când vă rugați, să nu bolborosiți aceleași vorbe, ca păgânii, cărora li se pare că, dacă spun o mulțime de vorbe, vor fi ascultați.8 Să nu vă asemănați cu ei; căci Tatăl vostru știe de ce aveți trebuință, mai înainte ca să-I cereți voi.9 Iată, dar, cum trebuie să vă rugați: „Tatăl nostru care ești în ceruri! Sfințească-se Numele Tău;10 vie Împărăția Ta; facă-se voia Ta, precum în cer și pe pământ.11 Pâinea noastră cea de toate zilele dă-ne-o nouă astăzi;12 și ne iartă nouă greșelile noastre, precum și noi iertăm greșiților noștri;13 și nu ne duce în ispită, ci izbăvește-ne de cel rău. Căci a Ta este Împărăția și puterea și slava în veci. Amin!”14 Dacă iertați oamenilor greșelile lor, și Tatăl vostru cel ceresc vă va ierta greșelile voastre.15 Dar dacă nu iertați oamenilor greșelile lor, nici Tatăl vostru nu vă va ierta greșelile voastre.16 Când postiți, să nu vă luați o înfățișare posomorâtă, ca fățarnicii, care își sluțesc fețele, ca să se arate oamenilor că postesc. Adevărat vă spun că și-au luat răsplata.17 Ci tu, când postești, unge-ți capul și spală-ți fața,18 ca să te arăți că postești nu oamenilor, ci Tatălui tău, care este în ascuns; și Tatăl tău, care vede în ascuns, îți va răsplăti.19 Nu vă strângeți comori pe pământ, unde le mănâncă moliile și rugina și unde le sapă și le fură hoții;20 ci strângeți-vă comori în cer, unde nu le mănâncă moliile și rugina și unde hoții nu le sapă, nici nu le fură.21 Pentru că unde este comoara voastră, acolo va fi și inima voastră.22 Ochiul este lumina trupului. Dacă ochiul tău este sănătos, tot trupul tău va fi plin de lumină;23 dar dacă ochiul tău este rău, tot trupul tău va fi plin de întuneric. Așa că, dacă lumina care este în tine este întuneric, cât de mare trebuie să fie întunericul acesta!24 Nimeni nu poate sluji la doi stăpâni. Căci sau va urî pe unul și va iubi pe celălalt; sau va ține la unul și va nesocoti pe celălalt; nu puteți sluji lui Dumnezeu și lui Mamona.25 De aceea vă spun: nu vă îngrijorați de viața voastră, gândindu-vă ce veți mânca sau ce veți bea; nici de trupul vostru, gândindu-vă cu ce vă veți îmbrăca. Oare nu este viața mai mult decât hrana, și trupul mai mult decât îmbrăcămintea?26 Uitați-vă la păsările cerului: ele nici nu seamănă, nici nu seceră și nici nu strâng nimic în grânare; și totuși Tatăl vostru cel ceresc le hrănește. Oare nu sunteți voi cu mult mai de preț decât ele?27 Și apoi, cine dintre voi, chiar îngrijorându-se, poate să adauge măcar un cot la înălțimea lui?28 Și de ce vă îngrijorați de îmbrăcăminte? Uitați-vă cu băgare de seamă cum cresc crinii de pe câmp: ei nici nu torc, nici nu țes;29 totuși vă spun că nici chiar Solomon, în toată slava lui, nu s-a îmbrăcat ca unul din ei.30 Așa că, dacă astfel îmbracă Dumnezeu iarba de pe câmp, care astăzi este, dar mâine va fi aruncată în cuptor, nu vă va îmbrăca El cu mult mai mult pe voi, puțin credincioșilor?31 Nu vă îngrijorați, dar, zicând: „Ce vom mânca?” sau: „Ce vom bea?” sau: „Cu ce ne vom îmbrăca?”32 Fiindcă toate aceste lucruri Neamurile le caută. Tatăl vostru cel ceresc știe că aveți trebuință de ele.33 Căutați mai întâi Împărăția lui Dumnezeu și neprihănirea Lui, și toate aceste lucruri vi se vor da pe deasupra.34 Nu vă îngrijorați, dar, de ziua de mâine; căci ziua de mâine se va îngrijora de ea însăși. Ajunge zilei necazul ei.

Matthew 6

Giving to the Poor and Prayer

1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

2 "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.3 But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,4 so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

5 "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.6 But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

7 "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.8 So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9 "Pray, then, in this way:
'Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.

10 'Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.

11 'Give us this day our daily bread.

12 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.']14 For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.

Fasting; The True Treasure; Wealth (Mammon)

16 "Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face18 so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22 "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and twealth.

The Cure for Anxiety

25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?27 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?28 And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!31 Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?'32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
