Jesús enseña a dar

1 »Cuidado con lo que hacen. No hagan algo bueno ante la gente sólo para que los demás los vean pues así no recibirán ninguna recompensa de su Padre que está en el cielo.
2 »Cuando des algo a los pobres, no llames la atención de todo el mundo como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogast y en las calles. Lo hacen para que los demás hablen bien de ellos. Les digo la verdad: con eso, ellos ya tienen su recompensa.3 Cuando le des algo a un necesitado, no se lo digas ni siquiera a tu mejor amigo.t

4 Lo que hagas debe ser un secreto. Así recibirás recompensa de tu Padre que está en el cielo, porque él ve todo lo que se hace en secreto.

Jesús enseña a orar

5 »Cuando oren, no sean como los hipócritas, que les gusta pararse en las sinagogast y en las esquinas de las calles a orar en voz alta para que los vean. Les digo la verdad: ellos ya han recibido su recompensa.

6 Pero tú cuando ores, entra a tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y habla con tu Padre. Así recibirás recompensa de tu Padre, porque él ve todo lo que se hace en secreto.
7 »Cuando oren, no alarguen demasiado su oración. No hagan como los que no conocen a Dios, que creen que porque hablan mucho Dios tendrá que hacerles caso.8 No sean como ellos, porque su Padre sabe lo que ustedes necesitan, incluso antes de que se lo pidan.9 Ustedes deben orar así:
»"Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos,
que siempre se dé honra a tu santo nombre.
10 Venga tu reino.
Que se haga tu voluntad en la tierra
como se hace en el cielo.
11 Danos hoy los alimentos
que necesitamos cada día,
12 y perdona nuestros pecadost
como nosotros también perdonamos
a los que nos han hecho mal.

13 No nos dejes caer en tentación,
y líbranos del malignot.t
14 »Porque si ustedes perdonan a los demás el mal que les hagan, su Padre que está en el cielo también los perdonará a ustedes.

15 Pero si ustedes no los perdonan, su Padre tampoco los perdonará a ustedes.

Jesús enseña sobre el ayuno

16 »Cuando ayunen, no pongan cara de tristeza como los hipócritas que ponen caras afligidas para que la gente vea que están ayunando. Les digo la verdad: ellos ya han recibido su recompensa.17 Pero tú cuando ayunes, arréglate bien y lávate la cara

18 para que así no se den cuenta de que estás ayunando. Así sólo lo verá tu Padre, que está en lo secreto, y tu Padre que ve todo lo que se hace en secreto, te dará tu recompensa.

Riquezas en el cielo

19 »No guarden tesoros para ustedes aquí en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido los dañarán, y donde los ladrones entran a robárselos.20 Más bien, guarden tesoros para ustedes en el cielo donde ni la polilla ni el óxido los dañarán y donde los ladrones no pueden entrar a robárselos.

21 Pues donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará tu corazón.
22 »La lámpara del cuerpo son los ojos. Si miras a otros con ganas de ayudarles, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz.

23 Pero si con tus ojos los miras con envida, entonces todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de oscuridad. Si la única luz que tienes es la oscuridad, ¡qué horrible oscuridad tendrás!

24 »Nadie puede servir a dos patrones al mismo tiempo. Odiará a uno y amará al otro, o se dedicará a uno y despreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir al mismo tiempo a Dios y a las riquezast.

Busquen primero el reino de Dios

25 »Por eso les digo: no se preocupen por la comida ni por la bebida que necesitan para vivir, ni tampoco por la ropa que se van a poner. Ciertamente la vida es más que la comida y el cuerpo más que la ropa.26 Miren a las aves del cielo, ellas no siembran ni cosechan ni tampoco guardan nada en graneros. Sin embargo, su Padre que está en el cielo les da alimento. ¿No valen ustedes mucho más que ellas?

27 ¿Quién de ustedes, por más que se preocupe, va a añadir una hora a su vida?
28 »¿Y por qué se preocupan por la ropa? Fíjense cómo crecen los lirios del campo. Ellos no trabajan ni hilan para hacer su vestido.29 Sin embargo, les aseguro que ni siquiera el rey Salomón con toda su gloria se vistió como uno de ellos.30 Así que, si Dios así viste a todo lo que crece en el campo, que hoy tiene vida pero que mañana será quemado en un horno, con mucha más razón cuidará de ustedes. ¡No sean gente de poca fe!31 Así que no se preocupen ni digan: "¿Qué vamos a comer?" o "¿Qué vamos a beber?" o "¿Qué ropa vamos a usar?"32 La gente que no conoce a Dios trata de conseguir esas cosas, pero ustedes tienen a su Padre en el cielo que sabe que necesitan todo esto.33 Así que, primero busquen el reino de Diost y su justicia, y se les dará todo lo que necesitan.

34 No se preocupen por el día de mañana, porque el mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones. Cada día tiene ya sus propios problemas.

Matthew 6

Giving to the Poor and Prayer

1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

2 "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.3 But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,4 so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

5 "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.6 But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

7 "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.8 So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9 "Pray, then, in this way:
'Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.

10 'Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.

11 'Give us this day our daily bread.

12 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.']14 For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.

Fasting; The True Treasure; Wealth (Mammon)

16 "Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face18 so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22 "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and twealth.

The Cure for Anxiety

25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?27 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?28 And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!31 Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?'32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
