Mattheüs 7

De autoriteit van Jezus

1 : ‘Spreek geen oordeel uit, dan zal er over u ook geen oordeel uitgesproken worden.
2 Want God zal u op dezelfde manier beoordelen als waarop u anderen beoordeelt.3 Waarom maakt u zich druk over een splinter in het oog van uw broeder, terwijl u niet eens merkt dat in uw eigen oog een balk zit?

4 Hoe kunt u dan zeggen: “Kom, ik zal die splinter even uit uw oog halen”? Met die balk in uw eigen oog ziet u immers niets?
5 Hoe kunt u dan uw broeder helpen? Huichelaar! Zorg eerst dat die balk uit uw eigen oog weg is. Dan ziet u tenminste wat u doet, als u die splinter uit het oog van uw broeder haalt.

6 Geef de dingen van God niet aan de vijanden van God. Geef wat heilig is niet aan de honden, want ze komen terug om u te verscheuren, en gooi geen parels voor de zwijnen, want ze zullen die vertrappen.
7 Bid en u zult ontvangen waarvoor u bidt. Zoek en u zult vinden wat u zoekt. Klop en de deur zal voor u worden opengedaan.8 Want ieder die bidt, ontvangt. Wie zoekt, vindt. En voor wie klopt, gaat de deur open.9 Als uw zoon u om een brood vraagt, geeft u hem dan een steen?10 En als hij u om een vis vraagt, geeft u hem dan een slang?11 Natuurlijk niet! Al bent u slecht, u geeft uw kinderen wat goed is. Hoeveel te meer zal uw hemelse Vader het goede geven aan wie Hem erom vragen.

12 Behandel anderen zoals u wilt dat zij u behandelen. Dat is in het kort wat Mozes en de profeten hebben gezegd.
13 Ga door de smalle poort het Koninkrijk van de hemelen binnen. De weg naar de vernietiging is breed en komt uit bij een wijde poort. En wat gaan daar veel mensen door!14 Maar de poort naar het leven is nauw. En de weg erheen smal. Weinig mensen vinden hem.15 Pas op voor valse profeten. Zij komen naar u toe en doen zich voor als onschuldige schapen. Maar in werkelijkheid zijn het verscheurende wolven.16 Aan hun doen en laten kunt u zien wat zij zijn, zoals men een boom kan herkennen aan zijn vruchten. U hoeft aan doornstruiken geen druiven te zoeken en aan distels geen vijgen.17 Als u wilt weten of een boom goed of slecht is, kijk dan naar zijn vruchten.18 Aan een goede boom komen geen slechte vruchten en aan een slechte boom geen goede.19 Alle bomen waar geen goede vruchten aan komen, worden omgehakt en verbrand.20 Ik bedoel dit: aan zijn doen en laten kunt u zien hoe iemand is.21 Niet alle mensen die Here tegen Mij zeggen, komen in het hemelse Koninkrijk. Want daar komt u alleen als u doet wat mijn hemelse Vader wil.22 Op de dag van het grote oordeel zullen velen tegen Mij zeggen: “Here, wij hebben in uw naam geprofeteerd. Here, wij hebben uw naam gebruikt om duivelse geesten te verjagen en wonderen te doen.”

23 Maar Ik zal hun antwoorden: “Ik heb u nooit gekend. Ga weg! U bent slecht en hebt alleen maar uw eigen zin gedaan.”
24 Wie naar Mij luistert en doet wat Ik zeg, is verstandig. Hij lijkt op een man die zijn huis op een rots bouwt.25 Het kan regenen, er kan een overstroming komen en het kan stormen. Maar het huis blijft staan, want het heeft een goede fundering.26 Maar wie hoort wat Ik zeg en zich er niets van aantrekt, is dom. Hij lijkt op een man die zijn huis op zand bouwt.

27 Als dat huis te lijden krijgt van regen, overstroming en storm, stort het met veel lawaai in.’
28 Jezus zweeg. Ieder die Hem had gehoord, stond perplex. Want Hij sprak zo heel anders dan de bijbelgeleerden.

29 Hij wist waar Hij het over had en hoefde niet aan te halen wat anderen hadden gezegd.

Matthew 7

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured unto you.3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me cast out the mote out of thine eye; and lo, the beam is in thine own eye?5 Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before the swine, lest haply they trample them under their feet, and turn and rend you.

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:8 for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.9 Or what man is there of you, who, if his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone;10 or if he shall ask for a fish, will give him a serpent?11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?12 All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets.

13 Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby.14 For narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are they that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.16 By their fruits ye shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.20 Therefore by their fruits ye shall know them.21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works?23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock:25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and if fell not: for it was founded upon the rock.26 And every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand:27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof.

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching:29 for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
