Non giudicare gli altri

1 «Non giudicate, affinché non siate giudicati;2 perché con il giudizio con il quale giudicate, sarete giudicati; e con la misura con la quale misurate, sarà misurato a voi.3 Perché guardi la pagliuzza che è nell'occhio di tuo fratello, mentre non scorgi la trave che è nell'occhio tuo?4 O, come potrai tu dire a tuo fratello: “Lascia che io ti tolga dall'occhio la pagliuzza”, mentre la trave è nell'occhio tuo?

5 Ipocrita, togli prima dal tuo occhio la trave, e allora ci vedrai bene per trarre la pagliuzza dall'occhio di tuo fratello.

6 Non date ciò che è santo ai cani e non gettate le vostre perle davanti ai porci, perché non le pestino con le zampe e rivolti contro di voi non vi sbranino.

La preghiera e il suo esaudimento

7 «Chiedete e vi sarà dato; cercate e troverete; bussate e vi sarà aperto;8 perché chiunque chiede riceve; chi cerca trova, e sarà aperto a chi bussa.9 Qual è l'uomo tra di voi, il quale, se il figlio gli chiede un pane, gli dia una pietra?10 Oppure se gli chiede un pesce, gli dia un serpente?

11 Se dunque voi, che siete malvagi, sapete dare buoni doni ai vostri figli, quanto piú il Padre vostro, che è nei cieli, darà cose buone a quelli che gliele domandano!

La regola per eccellenza; le due vie

12 «Tutte le cose dunque che voi volete che gli uomini vi facciano, fatele anche voi a loro; perché questa è la legge e i profeti.
13 Entrate per la porta stretta, poiché larga è la porta e spaziosa la via che conduce alla perdizione, e molti sono quelli che entrano per essa.

14 Stretta invece è la porta e angusta la via che conduce alla vita, e pochi sono quelli che la trovano.

I falsi profeti

15 «Guardatevi dai falsi profeti i quali vengono verso di voi in vesti da pecore, ma dentro son lupi rapaci.16 Li riconoscerete dai loro frutti. Si raccoglie forse uva dalle spine, o fichi dai rovi?17 Cosí, ogni albero buono fa frutti buoni, ma l'albero cattivo fa frutti cattivi.18 Un albero buono non può fare frutti cattivi, né un albero cattivo far frutti buoni.19 Ogni albero che non fa buon frutto è tagliato e gettato nel fuoco.

20 Li riconoscerete dunque dai loro frutti.
21 «Non chiunque mi dice: Signore, Signore! entrerà nel regno dei cieli, ma chi fa la volontà del Padre mio che è nei cieli.22 Molti mi diranno in quel giorno: “Signore, Signore, non abbiamo noi profetizzato in nome tuo e in nome tuo cacciato demòni e fatto in nome tuo molte opere potenti?”

23 Allora dichiarerò loro: “Io non vi ho mai conosciuti; allontanatevi da me, malfattori!”

Le due case

24 «Perciò chiunque ascolta queste mie parole e le mette in pratica sarà paragonato a un uomo avveduto che ha costruito la sua casa sopra la roccia.25 La pioggia è caduta, sono venuti i torrenti, i venti hanno soffiato e hanno investito quella casa; ma essa non è caduta, perché era fondata sulla roccia.26 E chiunque ascolta queste mie parole e non le mette in pratica sarà paragonato a un uomo stolto che ha costruito la sua casa sulla sabbia.

27 La pioggia è caduta, sono venuti i torrenti, i venti hanno soffiato e hanno fatto impeto contro quella casa, ed essa è caduta e la sua rovina è stata grande».
28 Quando Gesú ebbe finito questi discorsi, la folla si stupiva del suo insegnamento,

29 perché egli insegnava loro come uno che ha autorità e non come i loro scribi.

MATTHEW 7

Judging Others

(Luke 6.37,38,41,42)

1 Don't condemn others, and God won't condemn you.

2 t God will be as hard on you as you are on others! He will treat you exactly as you treat them.
3 You can see the speck in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye. 4 How can you say, “My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you don't see the log in your own eye?

5 You're nothing but show-offs! First, take the log out of your own eye; then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye.

6 Don't give to dogs what belongs to God. They will only turn and attack you. Don't throw pearls down in front of pigs. They will trample all over them.

Ask, Search, Knock

(Luke 11.9-13)

8 Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And the door will be opened for everyone who knocks.
9 Would any of you give your hungry child a stone, if the child asked for some bread? 10 Would you give your child a snake if the child asked for a fish?

11 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give good things to people who ask.

12  t Treat others as you want them to treat you. This is what the Law and the Prophetst are all about.

The Narrow Gate

14 But the gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it.

20 t You can tell who the false prophets are by their deeds.

A Warning

23 t But I will tell them, “I will have nothing to do with you! Get out of my sight, you evil people!”

Two Builders

(Luke 6.47-49)

25 Rain poured down, rivers flooded, and winds beat against that house. But it was built on solid rock, and so it did not fall.
26 Anyone who hears my teachings and doesn't obey them is like a foolish person who built a house on sand.

27 Rain poured down, rivers flooded, and the winds blew and beat against that house. Finally, it fell with a crash.
28  t When Jesus finished speaking, the crowds were surprised at his teaching. 29 He taught them like someone with authority, and not like their teachers of the Law of Moses.
