Titus 2

Promote Right Teaching

1 As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.2 Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.
  3 Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers.s Instead, they should teach others what is good.4 These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children,5 to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes,s to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
  6 In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely.7 And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.8 Teach the truth so that your teaching can't be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.
  9 Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back10 or steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way.
  11 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,13 while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.14 He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
  15 You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don't let anyone disregard what you say.

Titus 3

Do What Is Good

1 Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good.2 They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.
  3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other.
  4 But—"When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love,5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.s6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.7 Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life."8 This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.
  9 Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigreess or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time.10 If people are causing divisions among you, give a first and second warning. After that, have nothing more to do with them.11 For people like that have turned away from the truth, and their own sins condemn them.

Paul's Final Remarks and Greetings

12 I am planning to send either Artemas or Tychicus to you. As soon as one of them arrives, do your best to meet me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to stay there for the winter.13 Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos with their trip. See that they are given everything they need.14 Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive.
  15 Everybody here sends greetings. Please give my greetings to the believers—all who love us.
  May God's grace be with you all.

Philemon 1

Greetings from Paul

1 This letter is from Paul, a prisoner for preaching the Good News about Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy.
  I am writing to Philemon, our beloved co-worker,2 and to our sister Apphia, and to our fellow soldier Archippus, and to the church that meets in yours house.
  3 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Paul's Thanksgiving and Prayer

4 I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon,5 because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people.6 And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ.7 Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God's people.

Paul's Appeal for Onesimus

8 That is why I am boldly asking a favor of you. I could demand it in the name of Christ because it is the right thing for you to do.9 But because of our love, I prefer simply to ask you. Consider this as a request from me—Paul, an old man and now also a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus.s
  10 I appeal to you to show kindness to my child, Onesimus. I became his father in the faith while here in prison.11 Onesimuss hasn't been of much use to you in the past, but now he is very useful to both of us.12 I am sending him back to you, and with him comes my own heart.
  13 I wanted to keep him here with me while I am in these chains for preaching the Good News, and he would have helped me on your behalf.14 But I didn't want to do anything without your consent. I wanted you to help because you were willing, not because you were forced.15 It seems you lost Onesimus for a little while so that you could have him back forever.16 He is no longer like a slave to you. He is more than a slave, for he is a beloved brother, especially to me. Now he will mean much more to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord.
  17 So if you consider me your partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.18 If he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge it to me.19 I, Paul, write this with my own hand : I will repay it . And I won't mention that you owe me your very soul !
  20 Yes, my brother, please do me this favors for the Lord's sake. Give me this encouragement in Christ.
  21 I am confident as I write this letter that you will do what I ask and even more!22 One more thing—please prepare a guest room for me, for I am hoping that God will answer your prayers and let me return to you soon.

Paul's Final Greetings

23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings.24 So do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my co-workers.
  25 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
