Numbers 30

1 And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes of the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which Jehovah hath commanded.2 When a man voweth a vow unto Jehovah, or sweareth an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.3 Also when a woman voweth a vow unto Jehovah, and bindeth herself by a bond, being in her father’s house, in her youth,4 and her father heareth her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father holdeth his peace at her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth, none of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and Jehovah will forgive her, because her father disallowed her.

6 And if she be married to a husband, while her vows are upon her, or the rash utterance of her lips, wherewith she hath bound her soul,7 and her husband hear it, and hold his peace at her in the day that he heareth it; then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.8 But if her husband disallow her in the day that he heareth it, then he shall make void her vow which is upon her, and the rash utterance of her lips, wherewith she hath bound her soul: and Jehovah will forgive her.9 But the vow of a widow, or of her that is divorced, even everything wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand against her.10 And if she vowed in her husband’s house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath,11 and her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.12 But if her husband made them null and void in the day that he heard them, then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and Jehovah will forgive her.

13 Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.14 But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day, then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he hath established them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.15 But if he shall make them null and void after that he hath heard them, then he shall bear her iniquity.16 These are the statutes, which Jehovah commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, being in her youth, in her father’s house.

Numbers 30

Vows Made by Men

1 s Moses told the leaderst of the tribes concerning the Israelites, “This is whatt the Lord has commanded:

2 If a mant makes a vowt to the Lord or takes an oatht of binding obligation on himself,t he must not break his word, but must do whatever he has promised.t

Vows Made by Single Women

3 “If a youngt woman who is still livingt in her father’s house makes a vow to the Lord or places herself under an obligation,4 and her father hears of her vow or the obligation to which she has pledged herself, and her father remains silent about her,t then all her vows will stand,t and every obligation to which she has pledged herself will stand.

5 But if her father overrules her when he hearst about it, then nonet of her vows or her obligations which she has pledged for herself will stand. And the Lord will releaset her from it, because her father overruled her.

Vows Made by Married Women

6 “And if she marries a husband while under a vow,t or she utteredt anything impulsively by which she has pledged herself,7 and her husband hears about it, but remains silent about her when he hears about it, then her vows will stand and her obligations which she has pledged for herself will stand.

8 But if when her husband hears it he overrules her, then he will nullifyt the vow she has taken,t and whatever she uttered impulsively which she has pledged for herself. And the Lord will release her from it.

Vows Made by Widows

9 “But every vow of a widow or of a divorced woman which she has pledged for herself will remain intact.t10 If she made the vow in her husband’s house or put herself under obligation with an oath,11 and her husband heard about it, but remained silent about her, and did not overrule her, then all her vows will stand, and every obligation which she pledged for herself will stand.

12 But if her husband clearly nullifiest them when he hears them, then whatever she sayst by way of vows or obligations will not stand. Her husband has made them void, and the Lord will release her from them.
13 “Any vow or sworn obligation that would bring affliction to her,t her husband can confirm or nullify.t14 But if her husband remains completely silentt about her from day to day, he thus confirms all her vows or all her obligations which she is under; he confirms them because he remained silent about when he heard them.

15 But if he should nullify them after he has heard them, then he will bear her iniquity.”s

16 These are the statutes that the Lord commanded Moses, relating tot a man and his wife, and a father and his young daughter who is still living in her father’s house.
