Preparación de las lámparas

1  El SEÑOR le dijo a Moisés: 2 «Da las siguientes instrucciones a Aarón: cuando pongas las siete lámparas en el candelabro, hazlo de manera que la luz alumbre hacia adelante, enfrente del candelabro». 3 Y así lo hizo Aarón; instaló las siete lámparas para que reflejaran su luz hacia adelante, tal como el SEÑOR había ordenado a Moisés. 4 Todo el candelabro —desde su base hasta el decorado floral— estaba hecho de oro labrado. Se fabricó conforme al diseño exacto que el SEÑOR le había mostrado a Moisés.

Dedicación de los levitas

5 Luego el SEÑOR le dijo a Moisés: 6 «Ahora bien, separa a los levitas de los demás israelitas y hazlos ceremonialmente puros. 7 Para hacerlo, rocíalos con el agua de la purificación y haz que se afeiten todo el cuerpo y que laven su ropa. Entonces quedarán ceremonialmente puros. 8 Haz que lleven un becerro y una ofrenda de grano de harina selecta humedecida con aceite de oliva, junto con un segundo becerro para la ofrenda por el pecado. 9 Después reúne a toda la comunidad de Israel y presenta a los levitas a la entrada del tabernáculo.t 10 Cuando presentes a los levitas delante del SEÑOR, el pueblo de Israel pondrá sus manos sobre ellos. 11 Con las manos en alto, Aarón presentará a los levitas ante el SEÑOR como una ofrenda especial del pueblo de Israel; así los dedicará al servicio del SEÑOR.

12 »Enseguida los levitas pondrán sus manos sobre la cabeza de los becerros. Presenta un becerro como ofrenda por el pecado y el otro como ofrenda quemada al SEÑOR, para purificar a los levitas y hacerlos justos ante el SEÑOR.t 13 Luego haz que los levitas se pongan de pie delante de Aarón y sus hijos y levanta tus manos y preséntalos como una ofrenda especial al SEÑOR. 14 De ese modo apartarás a los levitas del resto del pueblo de Israel, y los levitas me pertenecerán a mí. 15 Así ellos podrán entrar en el tabernáculo para realizar su trabajo, porque los purificaste y los presentaste como una ofrenda especial.

16 »De todo el pueblo de Israel, los levitas están apartados para mí. Yo los he tomado para mí en lugar de los primeros hijos varones de los israelitas; he tomado a los levitas como sustitutos. 17 Pues todo primer nacido de entre el pueblo de Israel es mío, tanto de personas como de animales. Yo los aparté para mí el día que herí de muerte a todos los primeros hijos varones de los egipcios. 18 Es cierto, yo tomé a los levitas en lugar de todos los primeros hijos varones de Israel; 19 y de todos los israelitas, yo he designado a los levitas para Aarón y sus hijos. Ellos servirán en el tabernáculo en nombre de los israelitas y harán sacrificios para purificart al pueblo, de modo que ninguna plaga los azote cuando se acerquen al santuario».

20 Así que Moisés, Aarón y toda la comunidad de Israel dedicaron a los levitas, siguiendo cuidadosamente todas las instrucciones del SEÑOR a Moisés. 21 Los levitas se purificaron del pecado y lavaron sus ropas, y Aarón los presentó al SEÑOR como una ofrenda especial. Aarón ofreció entonces un sacrificio para purificarlos y para hacerlos justos delante del SEÑOR.t 22 Después los levitas entraron en el tabernáculo para cumplir con sus responsabilidades de ayudar a Aarón y a sus hijos. Así se llevó a cabo todo lo que el SEÑOR le ordenó a Moisés con respecto a los levitas.

23 El SEÑOR le dio otras instrucciones a Moisés: 24 «Los levitas seguirán esta regla: empezarán su servicio en el tabernáculo a la edad de veinticinco años 25 y se jubilarán a los cincuenta años. 26 Después de su jubilación podrán ayudar a sus compañeros levitas como guardias en el tabernáculo, pero no podrán oficiar en las ceremonias. Así es como asignarás los deberes a los levitas».

Aaron Puts the Gold Lamps //in Place

1  t The [Lord] said to Moses,

2 “Tell Aaron to put the seven lamps on the lampstand so they shine toward the front.”
3 Aaron obeyed and placed the lamps as he was told.

4 The lampstand was made of hammered gold from its base to the decorative flowers on top, exactly like the pattern the [Lord] had described to Moses.

Instructions //for Ordaining the Levites

5 The [Lord] said to Moses:
6 The Levites must be acceptable to me before they begin working at the sacred tent. So separate them from the rest of the Israelites

7 and sprinkle them with the water that washes away their sins. Then have them shave their entire bodies and wash their clothes.

8 They are to bring a bull and its proper grain sacrifice of flour mixed with olive oil. And they must bring a second bull as a sacrifice for sin.
9 Then you, Moses, will call together all the people of Israel and send the Levites to my sacred tent, 10 where the people will place their hands on them.

11 Aaron will present the Levites to me as a gift from the people, so that the Levites will do my work.
12 After this, the Levites are to place their hands on the heads of the bulls. Sacrifice one of the bulls for the forgiveness of sin, and the other to make sure that I am pleased. Then the Levites will be acceptable to me.

13 They will stand at my altar in front of Aaron and his sons, who will dedicate the Levites to me.
14 This ceremony will show that the Levites are different from the other Israelites and belong to me in a special way. 15 After they have been made acceptable and have been dedicated, they will be allowed to work at my sacred tent. 16 They are mine and will take the place of the first-born Israelite sons. 17 t When I killed the oldest sons of the Egyptians, I decided that the first-born sons in each Israelite family would be mine, as well as every first-born male from their flocks and herds. 18 But now I have chosen these Levites as substitutes for the first-born sons,

19 and I have given them as gifts to Aaron and his sons to serve at the sacred tent. I will hold them responsible for what happens to anyone who gets too close to the sacred tent.t

The Levites Are Dedicated //to the [Lord]

22 After this, the Levites worked at the sacred tent as assistants to Aaron and his sons, just as the [Lord] had commanded.
23 The [Lord] also told Moses, 24-25 “Levites who are between the ages of 25 and 50 must work at my sacred tent. But once they turn 50, they must retire. 26 They may help the other Levites in their duties, but they must no longer be responsible for any work themselves. Remember this when you assign their duties.”
