Saludo

1 Pablo y Timoteo, siervos de Cristo Jesús, saludan a los que en la ciudad de Filipos pertenecen al pueblo santo por estar unidos a Cristo Jesús, es decir, a toda la comunidad con los que la presiden y los diáconos.2 Que Dios nuestro Padre y el Señor Jesucristo derramen su gracia y su paz sobre ustedes.

Acción de gracias

3 Cada vez que me acuerdo de ustedes doy gracias a mi Dios;4 y cuando oro, siempre pido con alegría por todos ustedes;5 pues ustedes se han hecho solidarios con la causa del evangelio, desde el primer día hasta hoy.6 Estoy seguro de que Dios, que comenzó a hacer su buena obra en ustedes, la irá llevando a buen fin hasta el día en que Jesucristo regrese.7 Es muy justo que yo piense así de todos ustedes, porque los llevo dentro de mi corazón y porque todos ustedes son solidarios conmigo de la bondad que Dios me ha mostrado, ya sea que esté yo en la cárcel o que me presente delante de las autoridades para defender y confirmar el anuncio del evangelio.8 Pues Dios sabe cuánta nostalgia siento de todos ustedes, con el tierno amor que me infunde Cristo Jesús.9 Pido en mi oración que su amor siga creciendo más y más todavía, y que Dios les dé sabiduría y entendimiento,10 para que sepan escoger siempre lo mejor. Así podrán vivir una vida limpia, y avanzar sin tropiezos hasta el día en que Cristo vuelva;11 pues ustedes presentarán una abundante cosecha de buenas acciones gracias a Jesucristo, para honra y gloria de Dios.12 Hermanos, quiero que sepan que las cosas que a mí me han pasado han venido en realidad a ayudar al anuncio del evangelio.13 Pues mi prisión ha servido para dar testimonio público de Cristo a la gente del palacio y a todos los demás.14 Y al ver que estoy preso, la mayoría de los hermanos se han animado a anunciar el mensaje, sin miedo y con más confianza en el Señor.15 Es verdad que algunos anuncian a Cristo por envidia y rivalidad, pero otros lo hacen con buena intención.16 Algunos anuncian a Cristo por amor, sabiendo que Dios me ha puesto aquí para defender el evangelio;17 pero otros lo hacen por interés personal, y no son sinceros, sino que quieren causarme más dificultades ahora que estoy preso.18 Pero ¿qué importa? De cualquier manera, con sinceridad o sin ella, anuncian a Cristo; y esto me causa alegría.
Y todavía me alegraré más,19 pues yo sé que todo esto será para mi salvación, gracias a las oraciones de ustedes y a la ayuda que me da el Espíritu de Jesucristo.20 Pues espero firmemente que Dios no me dejará quedar mal, sino que, ahora como siempre, se mostrará públicamente en mí la grandeza de Cristo, tanto si sigo vivo como si muero.21 Porque para mí, seguir viviendo es Cristo, y morir, una ganancia.22 Y si al seguir viviendo en este cuerpo, mi trabajo puede producir tanto fruto, entonces no sé qué escoger.23 Me es difícil decidirme por una de las dos cosas: por un lado, quisiera morir para ir a estar con Cristo, pues eso sería mucho mejor para mí;24 pero, por otro lado, a causa de ustedes es más necesario que siga viviendo.25 Y como estoy convencido de esto, sé que me quedaré todavía con ustedes, para ayudarlos a seguir adelante y a tener más gozo en su fe.26 Así me tendrán otra vez entre ustedes, y haré que aumente su orgullo en Cristo Jesús.

Vivir de acuerdo con el evangelio

27 Solamente esto: procuren que su manera de vivir esté de acuerdo con el evangelio de Cristo. Así, lo mismo si voy a verlos que si no voy, quiero recibir noticias de que ustedes siguen firmes y muy unidos, luchando todos juntos por la fe del evangelio,28 sin dejarse asustar en nada por sus enemigos. Esto es una clara señal de que ellos van a la destrucción, y al mismo tiempo es señal de la salvación de ustedes. Y esto procede de Dios.29 Pues por causa de Cristo, ustedes no sólo tienen el privilegio de creer en él, sino también de sufrir por él.30 Ustedes y yo estamos en la misma lucha. Ya vieron antes cómo luché, y ahora tienen noticias de cómo sigo luchando.

Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus that are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you,4 always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy,5 for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now;6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:7 even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace.8 For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment;10 so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ;11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.12 Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel;13 so that my bonds became manifest in Christ throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest;14 and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear.15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:16 the one do it of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel;17 but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds.18 What then? only that in every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and therein I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.19 For I know that this shall turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.22 But if to live in the flesh, --if this shall bring fruit from my work, then what I shall choose I know not.23 But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better:24 yet to abide in the flesh is more needful for your sake.25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide, yea, and abide with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith;26 that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again.27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you and be absent, I may hear of your state, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the gospel;28 and in nothing affrighted by the adversaries: which is for them an evident token of perdition, but of your salvation, and that from God;29 because to you it hath been granted in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf:30 having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
