Anschrift und Gruß

1 tDiesen Brief schreiben Paulus und Timotheus, die Jesus Christus dienen, an alle in Philippi, die an Jesus Christus glauben und ganz zu Gott gehören, an die Leiter der Gemeinde und die Diakone.

2 Wir wünschen euch Gnade und Frieden von Gott, unserem Vater, und unserem Herrn Jesus Christus.

Ich bete für euch

3 Immer bin ich meinem Gott dankbar, wenn ich an euch denke,4 und das tue ich in jedem meiner Gebete mit großer Freude.5 Denn ihr habt euch vom ersten Tag an bis heute mit mir für die rettende Botschaft eingesetzt.6 tDeshalb bin ich auch ganz sicher, dass Gott sein Werk, das er bei euch begonnen hat, zu Ende führen wird, bis zu dem Tag, an dem Jesus Christus kommt.

7 tEs ist ja nicht erstaunlich, dass ich so von euch denke, denn ihr liegt mir ganz besonders am Herzen. Daran ändert sich nichts, auch wenn ich jetzt im Gefängnis bin und vor Gericht die Wahrheit der rettenden Botschaft verteidigen und bezeugen muss. Ihr alle habt Anteil an der Gnade, die Gott mir damit erweist.

8 tGott allein weiß, wie sehr ich mich nach euch allen sehne; liebe ich euch doch so, wie auch Jesus Christus euch liebt.

9 tIch bete darum, dass eure Liebe immer reicher und tiefer wird und dass ihr immer mehr Weisheit und Einsicht erlangt.10 tSo lernt ihr entscheiden, wie ihr leben sollt, um am Gerichtstag Jesu Christi untadelig und ohne Schuld vor euren Richter treten zu können.11 tAlles Gute, was Christus in einem von Schuld befreiten Leben schafft, wird dann bei euch zu finden sein. Und das alles zu Gottes Ehre und zu seinem Lob!

Jeder soll erfahren, wer Christus ist!

12 tMeine lieben Brüder und Schwestern! Ihr sollt wissen, dass meine Gefangenschaft die Ausbreitung der rettenden Botschaft nicht hinderte. Im Gegenteil!13 tAllen meinen Bewachern hier und auch den übrigen Prozessteilnehmern ist inzwischen klar geworden, dass ich nur deswegen eingesperrt bin, weil ich an Christus glaube.14 Außerdem haben durch meine Gefangenschaft viele Christen neuen Mut und Zuversicht gewonnen. Furchtlos und ohne Scheu predigen sie jetzt Gottes Botschaft.

15 tZwar verkünden manche nur deswegen die Botschaft von Christus, weil sie neidisch sind und mir eine erfolgreiche Missionsarbeit nicht gönnen; andere aber lassen sich bei ihrer Predigt von den besten Absichten leiten.16 Sie handeln aus Liebe, weil sie wissen, dass ich im Gefängnis bin, um für die rettende Botschaft einzutreten.17 Die anderen aber reden von Jesus Christus nur aus Eigennutz. Sie meinen es nicht ehrlich und wollen mir noch zusätzlich Kummer bereiten.

18 Doch was macht das schon! Wichtig ist allein, dass die rettende Botschaft von Jesus Christus verbreitet wird; mag das nun mit Hintergedanken oder in ehrlicher Absicht geschehen. Wenn nur jeder erfährt, wer Jesus Christus ist! Darüber freue ich mich, und ich werde mich auch in Zukunft darüber freuen!

19 tWeil ihr für mich betet und Jesus Christus mir durch seinen Geist beisteht, vertraue ich darauf, dass hier alles zum Bestent für mich ausgehen wird.20 tIch hoffe und bin zuversichtlich, dass ich während meiner Gefangenschaft nicht schwach werde und versage, sondern dass Jesus Christus wie bisher, so auch jetzt durch mich bekannt gemacht und geehrt wird, sei es durch mein Leben oder durch meinen Tod.

21 tDenn Christus ist mein Leben und das Sterben für mich nur Gewinn.22 Weil ich aber mehr für Christus erreichen kann, wenn ich am Leben bleibe, weiß ich nicht, was ich mir wünschen soll.23 tBeides erscheint mir verlockend: Manchmal würde ich am liebsten schon jetzt sterben, um bei Christus zu sein. Gibt es etwas Besseres?24 Andererseits habe ich bei euch noch eine wichtige Aufgabe zu erfüllen.25 tDeshalb bin ich auch davon überzeugt, dass ich am Leben bleiben und zu euch zurückkommen werde. Dann will ich euch helfen, damit euer Glaube wächst und eure Freude noch größer wird.26 Wenn ich erst wieder bei euch bin, werdet ihr noch mehr loben und danken können für alles, was Jesus Christus durch mich getan hat.

Das Vorrecht, für Christus zu leiden

27 tVor allem ist wichtig, dass ihr als ganze Gemeinde so lebt, wie es der rettenden Botschaft entspricht. Ob ich nun bei euch sein kann und es mit eigenen Augen sehe oder ob ich nur davon höre, ich möchte, dass ihr alle durch Gottes Geist verbunden seid und einmütig für die Ausbreitung dieser Botschaft kämpft.28 tLasst euch auf keinen Fall von euren Gegnern einschüchtern! Euer Mut wird ihnen zeigen, dass sie verloren sind, ihr aber von Gott gerettet werdet.29 tIhr habt nicht nur das Vorrecht, an Christus zu glauben, ihr dürft sogar für ihn leiden.

30 Damit kämpft ihr nun denselben Kampf wie ich. Und wie dieser Kampf aussieht, habt ihr ja früher selbst mit angesehen. Jetzt kann ich euch davon nur berichten.

Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus that are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you,4 always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy,5 for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now;6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:7 even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace.8 For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment;10 so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ;11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.12 Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel;13 so that my bonds became manifest in Christ throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest;14 and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear.15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:16 the one do it of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel;17 but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds.18 What then? only that in every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and therein I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.19 For I know that this shall turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.22 But if to live in the flesh, --if this shall bring fruit from my work, then what I shall choose I know not.23 But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better:24 yet to abide in the flesh is more needful for your sake.25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide, yea, and abide with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith;26 that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again.27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you and be absent, I may hear of your state, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the gospel;28 and in nothing affrighted by the adversaries: which is for them an evident token of perdition, but of your salvation, and that from God;29 because to you it hath been granted in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf:30 having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
