Aux Philippiens 1
Salutation
1 tPaul et Timothée, esclaves de Jésus-Christ, à tous ceux qui, à Philippes, sont saints en Jésus-Christ, aux épiscopes et aux ministres :
2 tGrâce et paix à vous de la part de Dieu, notre Père, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ !Intercession
3 tJe rends grâce à mon Dieu toutes les fois que je me souviens de vous ; 4 tje ne cesse, dans toutes mes prières pour vous tous, de prier avec joie, 5 tà cause de la part que vous prenez à la bonne nouvelle, depuis le premier jour jusqu’à maintenant.
6 tJe suis persuadé que celui qui a commencé en vous une œuvre bonne en poursuivra l’achèvement jusqu’au jour de Jésus-Christ.
7 tIl est juste que j’aie pour vous tous de telles pensées, parce que je vous porte dans mon cœur et que, dans ma condition de prisonnier comme dans la défense et la confirmation de la bonne nouvelle, vous avez tous part à la même grâce que moi.
8 tDieu m’est témoin, en effet, que j’ai une vive affection pour vous tous, la tendresse même de Jésus-Christ.
9 tCe que je demande dans mes prières, c’est que votre amour abonde de plus en plus en connaissance et en vraie sensibilité ; 10 tqu’ainsi vous sachiez discerner ce qui est important, afin que vous soyez sincères et irréprochables pour le jour du Christ
11 tet que vous soyez remplis du fruit de justice qui vient par Jésus-Christ, à la gloire et à la louange de Dieu.La progression de la bonne nouvelle
12 tJe souhaite que vous le sachiez, mes frères : ce qui m’est arrivé a plutôt contribué aux progrès de la bonne nouvelle. 13 tEn effet, dans tout le prétoire, comme partout ailleurs, il est devenu manifeste que c’est pour le Christ que je suis prisonnier, 14 tet ma condition de prisonnier a donné confiance à la plupart des frères, dans le Seigneur : ils ont d’autant plus d’audace pour dire la Parole sans crainte. 15 tCertains, il est vrai, proclament le Christ par envie et par goût des disputes, mais d’autres le font dans de bonnes intentions. 16 tCeux-ci agissent par amour, sachant que je suis là pour la défense de la bonne nouvelle,
17 ttandis que ceux-là annoncent le Christ par ambition personnelle ; leurs intentions ne sont pas pures : ils s’imaginent ajouter de la détresse à ma condition de prisonnier.
18 tQu’importe ! De toute manière, prétexte ou vérité, le Christ est annoncé, et je m’en réjouis.
Je m’en réjouirai encore, 19 tcar je sais que cela tournera à mon salut, grâce à vos prières et à l’assistance de l’Esprit de Jésus-Christ ;
20 tselon ce que j’attends avec impatience, ce que j’espère, je n’aurai honte de rien. Avec une entière assurance, maintenant comme toujours, le Christ sera magnifié dans mon corps, soit par ma vie, soit par ma mort.
21 tCar, pour moi, la vie, c’est le Christ, et la mort est un gain. 22 tToutefois, s’il est utile pour mon œuvre que je continue à vivre dans la chair, je ne sais que préférer. 23 tJe suis enfermé dans ce dilemme : j’ai le désir de m’en aller et d’être avec le Christ, ce qui serait, de beaucoup, le meilleur ; 24 tmais, à cause de vous, il est plus nécessaire que je demeure dans la chair. 25 tJ’en suis persuadé, je le sais, je demeurerai auprès de vous tous encore et encore, en vue de vos progrès et de votre joie dans la foi,
26 tpour que vous soyez toujours plus fiers de Jésus-Christ en moi, grâce à mon retour auprès de vous.Une vie qui s’accorde à la bonne nouvelle
27 tSeulement, conduisez-vous d’une manière digne de la bonne nouvelle du Christ, afin que, soit que je vienne vous voir, soit que je reste absent, j’entende dire que vous tenez ferme dans un même esprit, combattant d’une même âme pour la foi de la bonne nouvelle, 28 tsans vous laisser aucunement intimider par les adversaires. Pour eux, c’est un indice de perdition, mais pour vous c’est un indice de salut, de la part de Dieu ; 29 ten effet, pour ce qui est du Christ, la grâce vous a été accordée non seulement de mettre votre foi en lui, mais encore de souffrir pour lui, 30 ten soutenant ce même combat que vous avez vu chez moi et dont, maintenant, vous entendez encore parler en ce qui me concerne.
Philippians 1
1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus that are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you,4 always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy,5 for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now;6 being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:7 even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace.8 For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment;10 so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ;11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.12 Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel;13 so that my bonds became manifest in Christ throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest;14 and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear.15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:16 the one do it of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel;17 but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds.18 What then? only that in every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and therein I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.19 For I know that this shall turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.22 But if to live in the flesh, --if this shall bring fruit from my work, then what I shall choose I know not.23 But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better:24 yet to abide in the flesh is more needful for your sake.25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide, yea, and abide with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith;26 that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence with you again.27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ: that, whether I come and see you and be absent, I may hear of your state, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the gospel;28 and in nothing affrighted by the adversaries: which is for them an evident token of perdition, but of your salvation, and that from God;29 because to you it hath been granted in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf:30 having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
