FILIPPENSE 1

1 Hierdie brief kom van Paulus en Timoteus, diensknegte van Christus Jesus.
Ons skryf aan al God se mense in Filippi, al die Christene, ouderlinge en diakens ingesluit.

2 Die genade en die vrede van God ons Vader en die Here Jesus Christus sal met julle wees.

Paulus dank God vir die gemeente

3 Elke keer as ek aan julle dink, dank ek God.4 Ek bid altyd in al my gebede met blydskap vir julle almal

5 omdat julle, van die eerste dag wat julle die Goeie Nuus gehoor het, tot vandag toe saamgewerk het om dit verder uit te dra.

6 Ek is oortuig dat God die goeie werk wat Hy in julle begin het, sal voortsit totdat Hy dit voltooi op die dag wanneer Jesus Christus terugkom.
7 Dit is vanselfsprekend dat ek so oor julle almal voel omdat julle my na aan die hart lê. Julle almal deel saam met my in God se genade - wanneer ek in die tronk sit én wanneer ek die waarheid van die Goeie Nuus verdedig en bevestig.

8 God kan getuig hoe ek na julle almal verlang. Ek gee vir julle om met die liefdevolle deernis van Christus Jesus!

9 Ek bid dat julle liefde vir mekaar meer en meer sal word deurdat julle 'n al beter begrip en 'n fyn aanvoeling ontwikkel.

10 Dit sal julle in staat stel om dié dinge te onderskei wat regtig saak maak. Dit sal julle ook help om skoon en onberispelik te lewe tot op die dag wanneer Christus terugkom.

11 Dan sal julle hele lewe vol wees van die goeie gevolge van julle gehoorsaamheid aan die wil van God - goeie gevolge wat Jesus Christus bewerk het. God sal daarvoor geëer en geprys word!

Christus word gepreek, selfs in die tronk

12 Julle moet weet, broers en susters, dat dit wat met my gebeur het, gelei het tot bevordering van die Goeie Nuus.13 Dit het vir almal hier, ook vir die soldate van die paleiswag, duidelik geword dat ek in die tronk is ter wille van Christus.

14 En die meerderheid medegelowiges hier is só deur my gevangenskap in hulle vertroue in die Here versterk dat hulle dit al hoe meer waag om oor die boodskap van God te praat sonder om bang te wees.
15 Daar is wel sommige wat dit doen omdat hulle jaloers is of iets teen my het, maar daar is ook ander wat Christus met goeie bedoelings bekendmaak.16 Hulle doen dit uit liefde omdat hulle weet dat ek hier is om die Goeie Nuus te verdedig.17 Maar dié wat in eiebelang Christus verkondig, doen dit met onsuiwer motiewe. Hulle bedoeling is om die swaarkry van my gevangenskap nog swaarder te maak.

18 Maar wat maak dit saak? Of hulle motiewe nou onsuiwer of suiwer is - die feit is dat Christus op allerhande maniere verkondig word, en daaroor is ek baie bly!
My blydskap sal ook voortduur,

Paulus se lewe vir Christus

19 want ek weet dat deur julle voorbidding en die hulp van die Gees van Jesus Christus alles op my vrylating sal uitloop.20 Dit is my strewe en hoop dat ek nooit iets sal doen waaroor ek my sal hoef te skaam nie. Ek wil eerder, soos nog altyd, ook nou in my hele bestaan - of ek bly leef en of ek moet sterf - Christus met volle vrymoedigheid verheerlik.21 Want vir my is die lewe Christus, en die sterwe wins.22 As ek aanhou lewe, kan ek vrugbaar werk. Ek weet regtig nie wat om te kies nie!23 Ek is in 'n tweestryd. Aan die een kant verlang ek om te vertrek en bý Christus te wees, want dit is vir my verreweg die beste.

24 Aan die ander kant is dit vir julle belangriker dat ek bly lewe.
25 Dit weet ek vas en seker: my blywende betrokkenheid by julle almal sal daartoe lei dat julle groei en blydskap in julle geloof sal beleef.

26 Dan, wanneer ek weer by julle is, sal julle nog meer rede hê om dit wat Christus Jesus deur my gedoen het, te besing.

'n Leefstyl wat pas by die Goeie Nuus

27 Hoofsaak is dat julle leefstyl moet pas by die Goeie Nuus van Christus. Só sal ek dan as ek kom, sién of as ek nie kan kom nie, hóór dat julle met één gees vasstaan en soos 'n span eendragtig saamveg vir ons geloof in die evangelie.28 Ek sal hoor dat teenstanders julle glad nie afskrik nie. Vir hulle is dit 'n bewys dat hulle verlore gaan, maar vir julle is dit 'n bewys dat God self julle red!29 Aan julle is immers die voorreg gegee om Christus te dien, nie alleen deur in Hom te glo nie, maar ook deur vir Hom te ly.

30 Julle voer dieselfde stryd wat julle my vroeër sien stry het. En soos julle gehoor het, duur my stryd nog steeds voort.

To all God's people who belong to Christ Jesus at Philippi and to all your bishops and deacons.

2 I pray that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!

Paul's Prayer for the Church //in Philippi

6 God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.
7 You have a special place in my heart. So it is only natural for me to feel the way I do. All of you have helped in the work God has given me, as I defend the good news and tell about it here in jail.

8 God himself knows how much I want to see you. He knows I care for you in the same way Christ Jesus does.
9 I pray that your love will keep on growing and you will fully know and understand 10 how to make the right choices. Then you will still be pure and innocent when Christ returns. And until that day,

11 Jesus Christ will keep you busy doing good deeds that bring glory and praise to God.

What Life Means to Paul

14 Now most of the Lord's followers have become brave and are fearlessly telling the message.t
15 Some are preaching about Christ because they are jealous and envious of us. Others are preaching because they want to help. 16 They love Christ and know I am here to defend the good news about him. 17 But the ones who are jealous of us are not sincere. They just want to cause trouble for me while I am in jail.

18 But that doesn't matter. All that matters is that people are telling about Christ, whether they are sincere or not. This is what makes me glad.
I will keep on being glad, 19 because I know that your prayers and the help that comes from the Spirit of Christ Jesus will keep me safe.

20 I honestly expect and hope I will never do anything to be ashamed of. Whether I live or die, I always want to be as brave as I am now and bring honor to Christ.
21 If I live, it will be for Christ, and if I die, I will gain even more. 22 I don't know what to choose. I could keep on living and doing something useful. 23 It is a hard choice to make. I want to die and be with Christ, because this would be much better. 24-25 But I know that all of you still need me. This is why I am sure I will stay on to help you grow and be happy in your faith.

26 Then, when I visit you again, you will have good reason to take great pride in Christ Jesus because of me.t

27 Above all else, you must live in a way that brings honor to the good news about Christ. Then, whether I visit you or not, I will hear that all of you think alike. I will know that you are working together and are struggling side by side to get others to believe the good news.
28 Be brave when you face your enemies. Your courage will show them that they are going to be destroyed, and it will show you that you will be saved. God will make all of this happen, 29 and he has blessed you. Not only do you have faith in Christ, but you suffer for him. 30 t You saw me suffer, and you still hear about my troubles. Now you must suffer in the same way.
