EPISTOLE DI S. PAOLO AI FILIPPESI 1

1 Paolo e Timoteo, servitori di Cristo Gesù, a tutti i santi in Cristo Gesù che sono in Filippi, coi vescovi e coi diaconi, 2 grazia a voi e pace da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signor Gesù Cristo. 3 Io rendo grazie all'Iddio mio di tutto il ricordo che ho di voi; 4 e sempre, in ogni mia preghiera, prego per voi tutti con allegrezza 5 a cagion della vostra partecipazione al progresso del Vangelo, dal primo giorno fino ad ora; 6 avendo fiducia in questo: che Colui che ha cominciato in voi un'opera buona, la condurrà a compimento fino al giorno di Cristo Gesù. 7 Ed è ben giusto ch'io senta così di tutti voi; perché io vi ho nel cuore, voi tutti che, tanto nelle mie catene quanto nella difesa e nella conferma del Vangelo, siete partecipi con me della grazia. 8 Poiché Iddio mi è testimone com'io sospiri per voi tutti con affetto sviscerato in Cristo Gesù. 9 E la mia preghiera è che il vostro amore sempre più abbondi in conoscenza e in ogni discernimento, 10 onde possiate distinguere fra il bene ed il male, affinché siate sinceri e irreprensibili per il giorno di Cristo, 11 ripieni di frutti di giustizia che si hanno per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, a gloria e lode di Dio. 12 Or, fratelli, io voglio che sappiate che le cose mie son riuscite piuttosto al progresso del Vangelo; 13 tanto che a tutta la guardia pretoriana e a tutti gli altri è divenuto notorio che io sono in catene per Cristo; 14 e la maggior parte de' fratelli nel Signore, incoraggiati dai miei legami, hanno preso vie maggiore ardire nell'annunziare senza paura la Parola di Dio. 15 Vero è che alcuni predicano Cristo anche per invidia e per contenzione; ma ce ne sono anche altri che lo predicano di buon animo. 16 Questi lo fanno per amore, sapendo che sono incaricato della difesa del Vangelo; 17 ma quelli annunziano Cristo con spirito di parte, non sinceramente, credendo cagionarmi afflizione nelle mie catene. 18 Che importa? Comunque sia, o per pretesto o in sincerità, Cristo è annunziato; e io di questo mi rallegro, e mi rallegrerò ancora, 19 perché so che ciò tornerà a mia salvezza, mediante le vostre supplicazioni e l'assistenza dello Spirito di Gesù Cristo, 20 secondo la mia viva aspettazione e la mia speranza di non essere svergognato in cosa alcuna; ma che con ogni franchezza, ora come sempre Cristo sarà magnificato nel mio corpo, sia con la vita, sia con la morte. 21 Poiché per me il vivere è Cristo, e il morire guadagno. 22 Ma se il continuare a vivere nella carne rechi frutto all'opera mia e quel ch'io debba preferire, non saprei dire. 23 Io sono stretto dai due lati: ho desiderio di partire e d'esser con Cristo, perché è cosa di gran lunga migliore; 24 ma il mio rimanere nella carne è più necessario per voi. 25 Ed ho questa ferma fiducia ch'io rimarrò e dimorerò con tutti voi per il vostro progresso e per la gioia della vostra fede; 26 onde il vostro gloriarvi abbondi in Cristo Gesù a motivo di me, per la mia presenza di nuovo in mezzo a voi. 27 Soltanto, conducetevi in modo degno del Vangelo di Cristo, affinché, o che io venga a vedervi o che sia assente, oda di voi che state fermi in uno stesso spirito, combattendo assieme di un medesimo animo per la fede del Vangelo, 28 e non essendo per nulla spaventati dagli avversari: il che per loro è una prova evidente di perdizione; ma per voi, di salvezza; e ciò da parte di Dio. 29 Poiché a voi è stato dato, rispetto a Cristo, non soltanto di credere in lui, ma anche di soffrire per lui, 30 sostenendo voi la stessa lotta che mi avete veduto sostenere, e nella quale ora udite ch'io mi trovo.

2 I pray that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!

Paul's Prayer for the Church //in Philippi

6 God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.
7 You have a special place in my heart. So it is only natural for me to feel the way I do. All of you have helped in the work God has given me, as I defend the good news and tell about it here in jail.

8 God himself knows how much I want to see you. He knows I care for you in the same way Christ Jesus does.
9 I pray that your love will keep on growing and you will fully know and understand 10 how to make the right choices. Then you will still be pure and innocent when Christ returns. And until that day,

11 Jesus Christ will keep you busy doing good deeds that bring glory and praise to God.

What Life Means to Paul

14 Now most of the Lord's followers have become brave and are fearlessly telling the message.t
15 Some are preaching about Christ because they are jealous and envious of us. Others are preaching because they want to help. 16 They love Christ and know I am here to defend the good news about him. 17 But the ones who are jealous of us are not sincere. They just want to cause trouble for me while I am in jail.

18 But that doesn't matter. All that matters is that people are telling about Christ, whether they are sincere or not. This is what makes me glad.
I will keep on being glad, 19 because I know that your prayers and the help that comes from the Spirit of Christ Jesus will keep me safe.

20 I honestly expect and hope I will never do anything to be ashamed of. Whether I live or die, I always want to be as brave as I am now and bring honor to Christ.
21 If I live, it will be for Christ, and if I die, I will gain even more. 22 I don't know what to choose. I could keep on living and doing something useful. 23 It is a hard choice to make. I want to die and be with Christ, because this would be much better. 24-25 But I know that all of you still need me. This is why I am sure I will stay on to help you grow and be happy in your faith.

26 Then, when I visit you again, you will have good reason to take great pride in Christ Jesus because of me.t

27 Above all else, you must live in a way that brings honor to the good news about Christ. Then, whether I visit you or not, I will hear that all of you think alike. I will know that you are working together and are struggling side by side to get others to believe the good news.
28 Be brave when you face your enemies. Your courage will show them that they are going to be destroyed, and it will show you that you will be saved. God will make all of this happen, 29 and he has blessed you. Not only do you have faith in Christ, but you suffer for him. 30 t You saw me suffer, and you still hear about my troubles. Now you must suffer in the same way.
